Newport With The Girls

Hello, dear friends.  I hope that you enjoyed your weekend.  We had some snow that turned into rain.  Great sleeping weather.

While the girls were home, the Mister and I took them to my favorite town, Newport, Rhode Island.  We ventured out on the day after Christmas and it was not crowded at all.  Guess everyone was at the malls.

We went to a different part of the downtown area that I had never been.  We found some great shops.

This shop has beautiful things.  Can you see the adorable pooch in the window?  He was so friendly, unlike the miserable sales lady.

My buddy, Mary, tells me that the Tennis Hall of Fame is great fun.  We didn't have a chance to stop in this time, but I look forward to touring it on my next trip.

When ever I see a J. McLaughlin store, I think of my friend, Patricia from PVE Design.  She does beautiful paintings of their stores.

I have a few pretty scarves from J. McLaughlin, but never thought of framing one.  Love it!

We celebrated #1's birthday a little early since we wouldn't be together for the big day.

To me, nothing tastes better on a cold day than french onion soup.  It did not disappoint.

Celebrating her bday with a few calories.

I think this is where #1 asked her Dad if he would co-sign on a credit card for her.

This is a great shop, too.

Hopefully, the Mister is going in to buy me a mansion!

Newport has great antique and consignment shops.  I hit the jackpot when I found this needlepoint rug.  I have been looking for a large rug for quite some time for my dining room.  The one we have is too small.  Fortunately for me, there was not a spot on it and showed no wear and tear.  The store owner thought  that it may have been hung on a wall.  Fortunately, for the Mister, he managed to talk the price down!

Go Mister!
More $ for Homegoods!!!
He doesn't seem to see it that way....

Hope you have a great week!

  6. First of all - high five on the rug find - it is absolutely gorgeous and perfect in your dining room! I love Newport - little known fact about me - I was born there. :) Your daughters are so pretty (and also both look like such nice girls!). It sounds like a perfect ending to the holidays! By the way, I just finished a good book that takes place in Newport called "The Price of Inheritance" - you might enjoy it. Have a great week, my dear! xoxo

  7. Adorable town, and the french onion soup made my stomach growl. I know you must have gone back and forth on whether or not to visit the Tennis Museum. (back and forth - get it? - oh, never mind!).

  10. I've been to Newport only in the summer - love the mansions. I wonder if any are decorated for Christmas?

  12. Oh my, that rug is gorgeous. You've got a good eye and an agreeable spouse, lucky gal. You may have been joking, but I didI just cosign on a credit card for my 20 year old junior in college son. He searched high and low for a way to do it solo...allegedly doesn't exist. Fortunately he's as thrifty as me (so far.)

I blog at www.smokymountainviews.wordpress.com (annually at this point) and my (4) fans are asking for more frequent updates. You inspire me and I'm getting a camera and just might do it! Thanks for taking us along on your adventure, it's fun to experience new places from the comfort of my lounge chair.

  13. I love the rug, it looks fab! So funny to see you mentioning Patricia's drawings of J McLaughlin stores - I was in contact with her yesterday about doing an illustration and told her that I had seen one of the store drawings reprinted in my local newspaper along with an announcement that we will be getting a store here in little ole Jackson, MS. It's a small world!

  14. oh my goodness...that rug looks fabulous in your DR (as to the chairs, windows, etc)!

hope you all are staying in and staying warm...we're expecting a toasty 29 degrees here today in the Deep South! i'm not a fan of the entire month of January as that is when we get our coldest and i'm not a cold-lovin' kinda girl.
