I hope that you had a wonderful Summer. Any season where our family members are happy and healthy and still speaking to each other is always a good one in my eyes.
We watched some great TV shows and read a lot. I have two posts coming your way soon. We also attended and hosted a few fun happy hours and enjoyed some lunches with friends.
If you do not relish hearing about other people's vacations, perusing photos of the most beautiful baby in the world, or don't believe in child labor, you might want to check out now and return on Friday.
Our #1 and Adorable Jonathon hosted both families for Father's Day.
Mrs. A and I played several rounds of cradle the baby.
Meanwhile, the guests of honor can be seen opening their presents in the background and being ignored.
AJ's First Father's Day!
Lucy's so happy she could spit!
The new Mama and Auntie.
Tell me you are new grandparents without telling me you are new grandparents.
Our #1 was on maternity leave until August. We had a standing Wednesday lunch date throughout the summer with our #1 and Lucy. It was our favorite day of the week.
Lucy loves my knock-knock jokes!
Time's up, Mister!
It's my turn to hold her.
Our little firecracker.
I bought Miss Lucy some shades and explained that the paparazzi are indeed real, unlike that purple dinosaur.
Lucy's entourage/glam squad/ and the dream team behind her beautiful smiles.
I had a brilliant idea. Who doesn't love cheap labor? I interviewed Lucy for the intern position at Preppy Empty Nester. I gave her the rundown on my bazillion-dollar, cutting-edge company and what the position would entail.
I then asked her if she had any questions, and she replied:
How come you have so many chins?
I immediately told her to crawl down to Personnel for a class on Sensitivity Training.
No worries. I did give Lucy another chance. I filled her in on all the incredible benefits that PEN has to offer, such as frequent hugs and kisses, Reality TV all day, and an all-you-can-eat pureed fruit bar.
I asked if she was ready to ditch her bib, wipe off her drool, and start working, and she responded:
How come you have a mustache?
I told her to get crawling.
She knows where Personnel is by now.
Sister came to town for a weekend!
The Mister made a fabulous lunch to celebrate, and I worked my fingers to the bone setting the table.
Mama... were you kidding when you said that I come from the same gene pool as these crazy ladies?
Our accidental Mommy & Me dresses!
I was a lot more thrilled about it than my #1.
I caught Sista trying to steal my intern.
Sista also met Darlin' Will, #2's beau, who we have enjoyed getting to know.
Auntie and her namesake.
If you have been following me for a while, you will remember that I attended a literary luncheon or two sponsored by Where The Sidewalk Ends bookstore almost every summer. Joanne and Caitlin, the lovely mother-daughter team, own the darling book store. It is located in Chatham, and host the fabulous waterside luncheons.
It's amazing what a little whining can do!
I spotted Peter Swanson in the hotel bar the evening before the luncheon. I introduced myself and my entourage, the Mister. Peter was so warm and charming. He is a great public speaker and had the audience rolling in the aisles at the luncheon. By the way, his new book is A Talent For Murder, and it is a page-turner.
My buddy, Annie, met us at the luncheon, and it was wonderful to catch up in person. She stayed afterward for a couple of glasses of vino. It had been four years since I saw Annie, but it felt like yesterday.
I was thrilled to run into another dear friend, Anne, who was there with some friends. She also attended some of the lunches with us in the past.
We were so excited to sit at Catherine Newman's table. We had both read and loved her latest book, Sandwich. She brought her lovely husband. Four men were at the luncheon, and three were sitting at our table.
The Mister must have had fun because he asked when next summer's schedule would be available. I told him not soon enough!
We celebrated the Mister's birthday, and I gave him an ice cream machine. He doesn't usually appreciate my gifts, but he absolutely loves this one. Me, not so much.
I'm his only chief taste tester and have the hips to prove it. Pictured is the Mister's idea of the size of a sample tasting.
I took a walk almost every day. My Secret Service detail, otherwise known as the Mister, accompanied me on most jaunts.
My Summer resolution was to do some weight training three times a week.
I partly succeeded.
I lifted the weights three times.
I put pickleball on the back burner because of the heat. The facility does have indoor courts, and we played a couple of times.
Since I wasn't breaking any records burning calories, I decided to burn a few brain cells. I am proud to say that I watched 17 seasons of this show.
Don't judge me.
This pretty much sums up Millie's summer.
Welcome back! I missed you!
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by!

ReplyDeleteKaren B.
Thank you for your sweet words, Karen! Have a great week!
DeleteWelcome back!! I finally cleaned my closet by packing it up and moving states. Then I went shopping & added dresses to it, but none are as nice as yours. Links, please.
ReplyDeleteLucy is definitely adorable! So happy for #2 to have Darlin’ Will (DW). Can’t wait to read your next post!! M no longer in HI & now in CA bcuz she fell in love with someone.
I am sooooo happy for you!!! I wish you much happiness!! Keep in touch!
DeleteSo happy to see you back in action after your annual summer break. Everyone looks fabulous especially that darling baby girl! I'm still koo-koo for cocoa puffs over all our "grands" the two oldest being 20! (how in the world did that happen?). Looking forward to your book suggestions and movie reviews.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. The book recs are coming!
DeleteOh man, that baby! So glad to know you. Xo
ReplyDeleteCatherine... you are a delight!
DeleteLucy is a doll baby! Don't you just love mafs?!! I can't wait for the new season!
ReplyDeleteWait!!! You love MAFS? No one I know watches it (or admits it)!
DeleteYes, I can even get my hubby to halfway watch too. I follow a lot of them on IG- mostly the ones who stay married and have children like Danielle in Dallas, Ashley in Chicago (now Michigan,) and Jessica in DC.
DeleteBaby Lucy is just precious! And you look amazing! I love your style and really enjoy your blog. So welcome back! Darlin Will is a darlin, but so is #2! Good looking couple
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I will pass on your kind words to 32 and DW.
DeleteWelcome back, friend! Your granddaughter is absolutely precious! BTW I would normally comment as my Google self but the site wouldn't let me do it.
ReplyDeleteHi Maggie... Thank you! I just had my whole tech dept. (the Mr.) working on my comments not showing up from anonymous.
DeletePeter Swanson is going to be speaking at the Festival of Books in my town of Morristown, NJ in October. Can't wait to see him. Congrats on your beautiful granddaughter.
ReplyDeleteI hope that he does the same speech that he did with us. I don't want to spoil it but I will tell you that he doesn't try to sell his book.
DeleteThat sounds like a wonderful summer! All those baby photos are so cute.
ReplyDeleteLucy really is a beautiful and happy baby! Lucky little girl to be live so close to her grandparents and Auntie/Uncle. Enjoyed seeing all of the photos and reading another one of your laugh out loud funny posts. Melissa in Frisco
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I am responding to you after I met you!! Thank you for you sweet words and I look forward to seeing you soon. Safe travels!
DeleteWelcome back, PEN! Oh how I've missed you and thrilled to be up-to-speed on your summer adventures. Lucy is adorable, especially in those sunglasses. Hope HR gets her straightened out pronto so she can get down to PEN business. xo
ReplyDeleteThanks, Juliet. Can't wait to pop over and see what you have been up to!!
DeleteWelcome Back!! I'm always so happy to see you return and to read your posts.
ReplyDeleteYay! Lucy's blog is back...oops I meant I was happy to see YOUR blog post today! You were missed. Welcome back! I can hardly wait to see more of Lucy, oh and you too :-)
ReplyDeleteLucy's blog is right! The hardest part of this post is I had to pick out the best pics of Lucy. I had to narrow it down from 3 million!
DeleteSo glad you're back. It's a long summer without you!
ReplyDeleteThank you. The Mister says that it was a long summer WITH me!
DeleteSo glad you are back from summer break! Lucy is so adorable as is your whole family. Love your dresses and love your blog. I always laugh outloud reading what you write. This one was especially funny with your interview with Lucy.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Hopefully Lucy will get her act together and finish her Sensitivity training.
DeleteKatie, Welcome back! Your granddaughter in those sunglasses is too cute.
ReplyDeleteYour picture of the weights made me think we are kindred spirits, though probably not in a good way. My latest pastime has been searching for good exercise videos on Pinterest, but apparently just Saving them doesn’t do one’s body any good.
Glad you had a great summer.
I hear you! I watch all of those 10 minute exercise videos on Insta and haven't lost a pound!
DeleteYou may not have lifted weights but you h@ve great arms!
ReplyDeleteThank you. They look a lot better when I keep them still then when I move them.
DeleteSo glad you’re back! I think Adorable Jonathon must relinquish his title! Adorable Lucy❣️❣️❣️
ReplyDeleteI'll pass that on to him but I'm not sure he will give up his title!
DeleteOh Lucy...is the most beauitiful baby and her wardrobe is just what it should be!
ReplyDeleteThank you, great minds think alike!
DeleteThank you for the chuckles... I absolutely love your blog and I'm sorry I just now found it!
ReplyDeleteYou caught me on a good day! Welcome! Stick with me... some posts are better than others!
DeleteC. F. E. - Cutest Family Ever! What a sweet-sweet summertime. I'm guessing you're brainstorming halloween costume ideas. Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteThank you dear Leslie Anne. I'm hoping she will dress up as Katie Clooney. A girl can dream...
DeleteHold on let me scrolling thru the comments to leave a comment
ReplyDeletehold on
oh hold on
what a fun summer! Missed you even my mister was like what is PEN watching?
We are rewatching old movies as the impact of writers strike is showing … Rewstched Diner
4o yesrs old. We were in Chatham two years ago and stayed at a house with vintage bath towels & a neighbor that made the local news for his property! 💕💕. I told carol she needs to host a lunch so i can fly out & meet Lucy .. I mean and see you!
You don't need any excuse to come and visit Lucy and me!! xx
DeleteYou are looking fabulous! (And your family is beautiful)
ReplyDeleteThank you! It's amazing what photoshop can do!!
DeleteHi Katie,
ReplyDeleteWelcome back, you have been missed. I so enjoyed seeing all the pics of your family. You and your sista are so cute together. Lucy is absolutely precious, she is beautiful. I want her wardrobe. I wonder who dresses her? Between you and #1 and all the ladies in her life do an incredible job. Do you want to come and dress me? I need all the help I can get. 😊 Maybe I should just stay in my wonderful comfortable loungers that way I will be in no competition with Missy Lucy.
Keep the pics coming, I’m a picture person.
Your honey cooks so much, I think he is so special. You better be nice to him. Yes, he should learn what a taste test looks like. He is out of control, no surprise right?
What a wonderful gift, an ice cream machine, but now everyone is in serious trouble.
So true, Katherine, as a wipe the Coffee Heathbar Crunch from my chin. By the way, I am a huge fan of the loungers!! Thank you for your sweet comment!
DeleteSo fun to have you back on blog.
ReplyDeleteThank you, it's good to be back!
DeleteI am so happy you are back! Can't wait for your book reviews. Baby Lucy is precious!
ReplyDeleteHopefully, the book reviews will be ready by Friday.
DeleteIt’s joining the chorus, welcome back!
ReplyDelete,,, and I love the tune! Thank you!
DeleteI am so happy you are back! Baby Lucy is an angel and what a smile!
ReplyDeletexo,
Kellyann
Thanks Kellyann. Love all of your outfits that you model so beautifully!
DeleteWelcome back! Your grandaughter is just adorable. WHERE did you get that great dress (you have several, but I'm talking about the one with Peter Swanson)?!!
ReplyDeleteStop by on Friday...
DeleteWhen I saw your Instagram post that you are back, I couldn't wait to catch up with you. As always, you brought joy, light-hearted updates and plenty of pictures of that most beautiful baby with the most amazing wardrobe in baby kingdom.
ReplyDeleteThanks Libby. Love watching your beautiful grow up on Insta and your blog!

ReplyDeleteThanks, Sis!
DeleteSo glad you are back! That little grandbaby is absolutely adorable and I bet you are loving every minute with her. Sounds like you had a fabulous summer and can't wait to see your newest book and tv show recommendations. Have to admit, I indulged in some "Married at First Sight" over the summer as well - too hot in July to do much else!
ReplyDeleteYES!!!!! Another MAFS fan!!! Thanks for your note! Have a great week!
DeleteLife is good again! Welcome back! I have 3 of my own but your Smiling Lucy is the most photogenic baby I’ve ever seen. Love the elegance your long dresses bring to a gathering, do tell your sources. ☺️
ReplyDeleteSources are on Friday's post and the best part is they are all in stock!
DeleteSo pleased you’re back! I’d like to recommend a book for Mista. The Perfect Scoop. David Lebovitz. An amazing ice cream book which probably won’t help the hip situation by will tickle the taste buds which in my book is much more important.
ReplyDeleteDo love your blog. It’s one of only 2 that I follow. Cheers from Oz! 💐
Thanks for the "scoop"! I'm not going to tell him because I'm going to order it for his Christmas stocking! Thank you so much for following!
DeleteI love your little intern, she is a darling! Looks like you enjoyed a wonderful summer with your family and friends. So glad you are back, I love to laugh........Hugs.
ReplyDeleteThanks Emily! I'll be popping over to your blog this weekend!

ReplyDeleteYou truly have lots of fans and I'm also grateful you're back too. Your granddaughter is a little doll. I'm a "yo-yo" and it's the best thing ever! And yes, please share all of your dress sources. All are beautiful. Especially love the way you layered the cardigan with some of them.
ReplyDeleteI never go anywhere without a sweater especially during the Summer where restaurants run the a/c on frigid. I love your name YoYo!!!

Hi Sherry! Great hearing from you! Glad you got a chuckle! xx
DeleteWelcome back; you were missed by so many! I smiled while scrolling through your summer memories, and Lucy is such a beautiful and happy baby. She, of course, is dressed darling in her little smocked outfits!

DeleteWhat a beautiful baby girl. We have 7 granddaughters. They are so amazing, loud. And expensive. lol. It’s the best
ReplyDeleteWow!! Seven granddaughters! I get that expensive part!! Thanks for you note!
DeleteWhat wonderful family photos and precious baby!!! I have followed you for years and lived in Dallas when you were in McKinney the first time. I always hoped to meet you. Your sense of humor is great - over the top in such a good way. Question. The top you have on in your "firecracker" photo...would you mind sharing where you got that? It is so cute as are all of your lovely outfits. So happy to have you back!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Marji! Do you still live in Dallas? I bought that top a couple of years ago at Belk's. I pull it out for every 4th celebration. Have a wonderful weekend and thank you so much for being such a loyal follower.
