A Medium Rare Hodgepodge

Hello, dear friends.  My friend, Beansie sent me this clever quote, so I made a nifty little poster for you.  How is your week going?  Does it feel shorter?  Not so much to me - I'm just constantly confused as to what day it is.  I just looked at my phone, and it tells me it's Wednesday.  You know what that means.

It's time for Hodgepodge.

1.  What makes you feel accomplished?  Explain.

It doesn't take much to make me feel like I have accomplished something.  A small thing like zipping up my ever-shrinking jeans is a call for celebration.  And maybe an extra cookie.

Having these two hooligans listen to me and both look at the camera at the same time is another cause for me to give myself a pat on my back fat.

I never thought it was possible for a dog to look bored but now I have two that have conquered the look. The last time I saw that expression, my kids were teenagers.

2.  If you had your own talk show, who would your first three guests be?  Tell us why.

If I had my own talk show, I would be the happiest girl in the world.  That would be my dream job.

First, I would like to interview Kathy Lee and Hoda because I know that they would supply the beverages.
Btw... I'm counting them as one guest.

Secondly, I would like to interview Oprah because I would hope she would bring me a new car as a hostess gift.

And the third person on my guest list is Andy Cohen for two reasons.  I would want to hear every ounce of inside scoop about the reality stars on my favorite Bravo shows.  Also, I would hope that Andy would reciprocate and ask me to be the official bartender in the clubhouse.

3.  Do you have a great burger recipe?  What's in it?  What do you like on a hamburger and where is your favorite spot to order one out?

I do not have a great burger recipe.
Aren't you shocked?

Many years ago, I lived in the Chicago burbs.  My favorite place for a burger was Hackney's.  It was served on rye bread, and the first bite was so delish, it made my eyes water.  They also serve the best darn onion loaf I have ever had.

Rumor has it that it is not quite as good as I remember it.

4.  What's the biggest anxiety producing thing you do on a regular basis?

I sit down and write a blog post.

5.  This is the last Hodgepodge of May.
Tell us about your summer plans.

This weekend, my #1, Adorable Jonathon, his twin, Adorable Michael, and their parents are coming for lunch.  They are vacationing in the area.  I can't wait to see them.

The rest of the summer will include a trip to Texas and Atlanta, hosting a neighborhood party, getting a few tattoos, joining a roller derby team, and plenty of day trips.

6.  Insert you own random thought here.

Today is National Autonomous Vehicle Day, National Save Your Hearing Day, National Speak in Sentences Day, and National Senior Health and Fitness Day.

Do you think those poor people in charge of naming the days may be scraping the bottom of the barrel?
Bad news, folks:  it's only May!

There is good news for people like me.
It's also National Macaroon Day

You can find the gluten-free recipe here.

Who would you like as a guest on your talk show?

Until next time...

  2. Don't tell me your mister doesn't conjure up a fantastic burger. Your two doggies crack me up. Fine, they say. They'll look at the camera, but they don't have to like it. Have fun with all the Adorables visiting along with your own adorable daughter!

  3. Oh my word, can your #1 and adorable Jonathan be any cuter?

Your photo of your bored dogs made me laugh!

  4. Another fun hodgepodge. Oh---I would LOVE to meet Andy Cohen. I think he is hysterical and I love the way he can 'play dumb' when he wants to get more info or stir up a bit of a melee on his reunion shows.
Have fun with your luncheon guests and do something with those poor pups so they don't look so bored. lol
Have a great day- xo Diana

  7. I think Save your Hearing and Speak in Sentences may have something to do with it being the last day of Better Speech & Hearing Month (or is it Better Hearing & Speech Month?).
I absolutely LOVED your answers! Thanks for the giggles! The boredom in your dogs' eyes are priceless.

  8. Just not into talk shows. Feeling as I do, I wouldn't want one at all, never mind guests.

The expressions on your dogs' faces fit your description (bored teenagers) perfectly.

    Have a great week!

  9. Well, hello Katie! I thought I'd stop by and introduce myself since we will be appearing on Judy's talk show together...LOL! You have an adorable blog and those doggies of yours look about as excited as my two doxies when I try to get them to smile for the camera. I enjoyed your Hodgepodge!

  12. I look forward to your delightful posts- you usually make me smile, except when you remind me about Jeans that shrink and back fat! To answer your first question- I am embarrassed to admit how much I enjoy crossing things off my never ending "to do" list. Sometimes I load it with simple things like "mail a letter"- just so I can cross it off!

  13. This may be the summer I get an actual tattoo. The girls have been trying to get me to get one and I have one I really do want. It's very tiny but holds huge meaning. Then again, I have that aversion to pain so... There was a place the old gang frequented while in college that had the BEST hoagies and Sangria I've ever had. Some of us were back there a few years ago and it was such a disappointment. Sometimes, people should leave things alone. Like good hoagies and delicious Sangria. Loved your post, as usual!

  18. I think just getting the dogs to look towards the camera long enough to get a shot is good. Have a great week.

  19. I would also ask Andy Cohen to be on my talk show, the TT girls, and lastly, Rod Stewart (with the hopes that he would swoop me away!) That Onion loaf looks delish!!

  20. Great, great post! Not sure what to comment on...Love Hoda. That smile! Your pups---I've never seen a dog look bored before! Mine always look like they are expecting a T bone steak to drop from the heavens.

We go to the Hackneys in Palos Heights. There is another along the north shore and that's probably the one you've been to. Oh...the HackneyBurger! And the fried onion loaf. I wish I were there again right now!

Thanks for a lovely commit today. I don't know where you get your energy, Katie!

  21. Well, when you have your own talk show, I'll actually turn on the tv and tune in! ;-)
Actually, I can't think of anyone I'd enjoy more than you as a talk show hostess.
About the perfect burger......we are still searching for it. The onion loaf looks delicious. I've never had an onion loaf.
I know you are going to have a wonderful time with the adorable Dallas gang, and I'm eagerly awaiting your TX trip. As for the two hooligans, I find this photo priceless. You need to market this one!
    Happy Hodgepodge!

  22. Just like our post this week "if these walls could talk"...too much of a good thing turns it bad. Happened to Hackney's I'm afraid. Plus, you would look better than the current hosts of the am talk show you watch. One if getting kinda scary looking to me. Don't tell her tho...I'm afraid of her!-Laurel Bledsoe

  23. National Macaroon Day and I missed it? Dang. I'll give the recipe a miss though, thank you. The one time I ever tried to create those beauts they came out looking decidedly different than anticipated. Can you say "overcooked golfballs"? Nevermind that I'd taken a macaroon course just days earlier ... As for your talkshow, well naturally I'm hoping you'll take me on as your sidekick. Just say the word and I'll see when Justin's available ...

  24. LOVE the picture of the dogs - I laughed out loud (while sitting in my office!!). I've also never heard of onion loaf. Is it like a compressed blooming onion?

  25. okay forget the talk show hosts, all I can think about is a gooey patty melt oozing Velveeta cheese and smothered with caramelized onions! Happy summer Katie!

  27. Haha, love your summer plans. Maybe a tote tattoo?? You'd be my guest on a talk show, hands down. And maybe Jeff Probst. 😍

  28. I would crawl over broken glass (hopefully not wine glasses) for the onion loaf. I think Chill and Chow are waiting for you to throw a ball, that photo kills me.
