A Worry-Free Hodgepodge

Hello, dear friends.  Is everybody back into their routine yet?  Yesterday, it poured all day long which gave me the perfect excuse to have a jammie day.  I caught up with some of my favorite blogs, spent a few minutes on Pinterest, did a 7-minute workout, and homeschooled Chowdah and Chili.

Another year, another Hodgepodge.
Pop over to Joyce's blog to read other blogger's answers.

1.  Share one favorite moment/memory from your Christmas holiday.

My girls are going to kill me for posting this pic.  Sharing some relaxing evenings in the sunroom with the girls and the pups is the precious memory that I hold close to my heart.

2. What is the best thing you ate over the holidays?  Was it homemade or store bought? If it's homemade, did you make it?

We had waaay too many yummy meals ala the Mister over the holidays.  Thanks to him, my bathroom scale hides when it sees me coming.

D'Artagnan

The Tasty Island

My favorite thing to eat was steak tartare and toasted Naan that the Mister made on New Year's Eve.

3.  What was one of the most beautiful things you saw over the holidays?

One of the most beautiful things I saw over the Holidays was an empty parking space at Whole Foods on Christmas Eve day.  I get emotional just thinking about it.

4.  What does fresh start mean to you?

5.  On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being very positive and 1 being not so great) how would you rate 2016 in terms of personal achievement and well being?  Explain.

Any year where my family has been happy, healthy, and employed is a "10" in my book.

6.  Every January 1st since 1976 Lake Superior University has published a list of words they'd like to see banished from the Queen's English.  Words may be banished due to misuse, overuse, or just general uselessness.  Go here to read more about how the words were chosen or, if you're like me, to find out what in the world the word or phrase even means or the context in which it's used.  There were quite a few on this year's list I'd never heard before.

Here's the 2017 list of banished words-

You, Sir-focus-Bete Noire-Town Hall Meeting-Post Truth- guesstimate-831-historic-manicured-echo chamber-on fleek-bigly-ghost-Dadbod-listicle-get your dander up-selfie drone-fankenfruit-disruption

Which word on the list would you most like to see banished in 2017?  What word or phrase would you add to the list?

I've never heard most of these words before.  I have heard of Dadbod because I happen to be married to someone who has got one.

I would add the word awesome to the list.  Usually, a person who uses the word "awesome" is one who over uses it.

7.  Large or small, light or deep, share with us one goal you have for the new year.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

This year, I have decided not to put the family into the poor house financing my get thin quick schemes with gym fees, food programs, and diet books, that I lose interest in after a week.  Everything I do in my weight loss journey (my 2nd most hated word) this year is going to be f-r-e-e so I won't feel guilty when I give it up.

On Monday, my two best friends who I usually have lunch with, Kathie Lee and Hoda, talked about this work out app which I downloaded.  I am sharing it with you because I don't want to be the only one that looks thin and gorgeous in 2017.

Notice my progress so far.

I'm going to add one more exercise - a 15-minute nap after my work out.  I feel thinner already.

  Until next time...

I should be working out with this guy.

  2. Katie, iI always get a kick out of your posts. They make me smile and start my day off in a positive manner. Like you, I finally decided to get healthy about a year ago. I got a Garmin step tracker and decided I could do 10,000 steps a day. If really made a difference. I will never be skinny again but hey, I am feeling pretty good at 61!!

  5. The pictures of your daughters and dogs are wonderful. Nothing better in life than to have those children around and the pups.
Getting healthy is hard. I know! I have rheumatoid arthritis and was not doing to well. 2016 was the year I got serious. I am off of all medicines and have lost 30 pounds, but it wasn't easy. Pain will kind of make it easier. They just make the food so good!

  6. I whole heartedly agree with you on the overuse of the word awesome. I inwardly roll my eyes when the cashier at the grocery store asks if I found everything I was looking for and after I say yes, she declares, "awesome!". Good job finding an app to keep you on track and motivated! -Jenn

Love the photo of the family. Your girls are beautiful. Your dogs, well, cute as can be.
    Happy New Year,

  8. Oh, it looks so cozy in your sunroom. Relaxing at home, dogs in lap, is my kind of evening.
I need to get back into a serious exercise routine. Aging takes a toll on the bone mass if one slacks, and sad to say I've been a slacker in recent years. Gotta get movin! Will check out the app.
So many overused words. The one that bothers me the most is the reply "No problem!" when I've thanked someone. Hum - it never occurred to me their might be a problem. Let me end by just saying, You are AWESOME, Katie Clooney! ;-)
Thanks for starting my Wednesday off with a good chuckle!

  9. Always love reading this post of yours. I thought you were gonna say your greatest achievement was getting the girls and both dogs posed, smiling and looking at the camera. Adorable picture!

  10. Wow, this post was like TOTALLY AWESOME!! (lol) Your daughters and dogs are so CUTE, but I probably should separate that out a bit. Your daughters are gorgeous and your dogs are cute. Your Mister deserves a medal for making all those scrumptious meals. I should look at that app. Right now I use My Fitness Pal app but it was quite neglected over the holidays. :-)

  13. Love your post - all the things you shared. My best time over the Holidays, was sitting all snuggled up with my 3 little pups...A maltese, a toy poodle and a conton de tulear.

Thanks for popping in for your visit and comment. Hope you'll follow along like I did with you.

  14. Love your HodgePodges and the banned word concept. Let' hope "walk back" is on next year's list. But I see the appeal it holds. The speaker is retracting something they said, usually not brilliant, without having to admit they were wrong.

  15. Happy New Year! I love the photo of your beautiful girls and cute pups! That is a precious memory. We ate too much as well, in fact I feel as if I did nothing but eat!

Good luck with your new app!

  17. I was laughing before I ever got to your questions. Love the pics of the girls and the dogs. Too cute! I'm just going to stick with my elliptical machine and moderation, moderation and more moderation. :o)) Happy Wednesday

  18. Katie, Loved the scale cartoon. Certainly do appreciate your sarcasm. You really make me laugh. We have a little sign in our house that says "Sarcasm is just part of the Service". My 3 grown kids finally appreciate that. The picture of your girls in the sunroom... loved one of them on the phone. Would've looked posed had she not been on the phone.

  21. I love the "Pray More Worry Less", although as I was formulating in my mind the words to type, I kept going to Worry More Pray Less. It's a darn bad habit of mine. There's no humor in that. But there certainly is in these posts of yours. Thank you!
ps - there's no shame in that photo of your girls, and I hope they won't kill you. I worry! >8-/

  22. The exercise thing is the hardest. I walk and manage very few squats and sit ups. Oh well. There's always next year.

  23. This is the first I've seen this year's word list -- and I don't know what half of them mean! So many words came up in the election I thought I'd never want to hear again but now I can't remember any of them...
