Hello, dear friends. Whoah! Those Nor'easters don't fool around! I thought the wind was going to blow the windows in on Monday night. Yesterday it poured all day. I chose to spend a lot of it at Homegoods where it is always sunny and warm.
My house now carries the distinct aroma of wet dog. Enough with the bragging, if it's Wednesday it's time for Hodgepodge.
1. "The cure for anything is salt water tears, sweat, or the sea." (Isak Dinesan) Would you agree? Of the three, which has cured you most recently?
I know it's not from sweat, that's for sure.
We live close enough to the water that we can walk to it. My favorite thing is smelling the crisp salt air, even when it's smelly low tide.
2.What's something you can't eat without salt? Do you normally salt your food a lot, a little, or not at all?
I love salt, always have. It drives the Mister crazy that I salt my food before I taste it. You would think that after 26 years of glorious wedded bliss he would have gotten over it by now.
3. Sands of time, bury your head in the sand, built on sand, or draw a line in the sand... which sandy phrase could best be applied to something in your life right now?
Every time I turn on the National News I want to stick my head in the sand.
4. A favorite book, movie, or song with an island setting or theme?
Amazon
The first thing that came to mind is On The Island that I read several years ago and loved it. Maybe because the cover reminds me of myself.
Even though you didn't ask about TV, I'm going to tell you anyway. I used to look forward to Gilligan's Island every week. My main goal in those days was to someday be Mary Ann, live on a desert island, and marry the Professor. I had very sophisticated taste in my tween years.
If you want to know five fascinating facts about Gilligan's Island, you can find them here.
If you are too young to remember Gilligan's Island, don't talk to me.
5. Yesterday - did you run your day or did it run you?
How so?
I am not the boss of me.
These two hooligans run my day.
Everyday.

6. You're on an island holiday. Will I most likely find you parked in a beach chair, shopping in town, on the back of a jet ski, or snorkeling off the back of a catamaran?
You would find me on the beach engaging in my favorite exercise - boy watching.
7. What do you think we humans most take for granted?
My little Grandma, Margaret, who lived to be 102, used to say this all the time. I never got the meaning when I was young. Now, I think about it every day. I have even been known to repeat it to my girls one or two million times.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
Thanks to all of you that left such nice comments about the blog's new facelift. They are very much appreciated. I am now working with Linda, my Fairy Blog Mother, as she tweaks the final design and takes the formatting to another level.
Until next time...
Thanks for the link on who you are using for blog design. I am pondering some updates too :-)
ReplyDeleteLinda is wonderful. I highly recommend her.
DeleteThank you for the link to Linda. Great post, your photos and wit always make me smile.
ReplyDeleteMy blog is long over-due for an update. Love yours! My hubby puts salt on his salt too :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Colletta's Kitchen Sink!

I like your new blog look too! And I love the cute puppies in their slickers at the end of today's post. Of course, I'm partial to pugs! I have two... my babies!!
ReplyDeleteYour new blog look is gorgeous!! Love it!! You'd find me on a beach chair to be sure! Would love it right now as we have snow and ice today! :( Come on spring!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the water color of your home and your Blog update! I am in awe of watercolor artists, I've tried it but my attempts have always resembled a mud pie when I'm finished. I tend to overwork the painting...perfectionism is not a good trait when using watercolors. Thanks for the book tip, I love to read a beach themed book while sitting at the beach.
ReplyDeleteCheers!

First of all, you have to be the classiest woman I know with the best sense of humor and I absolutely love the blog look! Second of all I am a salt girl too but I've proven to my Mr. that my blood pressure is still intact and to not worry about it. I think I'm going to sprinkle some in a bowl of water when I get home so I can pretend I live by the salty seawater like you do, ha ha! Have a splendid day beautiful! PS, the professor was always my favorite too, I thought he was so hot!
ReplyDeleteGilligan's Island was my favorite tv show as a child. I wanted to grow up to be Mary Ann, I just loved her. Glad you made it through the storm. We have had crazy weather here in the Sunny South lately. I am definitely ready for spring.
ReplyDeleteI salt very few things. Popcorn has to have salt in my opinion. If I was at the beach I would be lying back gazing at the water. I need some warmth. xo Laura
ReplyDeleteHello dear Katie
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness I love your pretty new blog, its just perfect I like the lists of posts and Katie's friends at the side. Your family and doggies are wonderful, and we are very lucky that you share your life with us.
Can it be Wednesday already, you have me hoping for an island escape :) I would love to live near to the sea, it is a dream of mine. My family have a little house on the Welsh isle of Anglesey which I am very fond of, great sailing and lobster.
But If I could, the one island I would return to is Sardinia in the Med. It is truly magical, if you ever get the chance you must go.
I hope you are keeping warm my dear
much love Sallyxx
I too love salt! I try not to use it too much but there are just things that are enhanced by its taste! Your pups are so cute and entertaining, I laugh each time I see them on Instagram. I know what you mean when you say they ten your life 24/7. Mine are the same.
ReplyDeleteThat wind storm stopped here before heading your way. What a mess it left with strewn branches all over the drive and yard. I've been known to shed tears to handle my stress. Enough said! ;-)
ReplyDeleteLove salt. I even put salt on my grapefruit. My "chef" has never understood that one.
Definitely "bury my head in the sand" when it comes to national news.
Walking the beach with the sand between my toes is what I most like to do, but sitting on the beach, not so much. You would also find me in the shops.
Good health is a priority! Tuesday are my day to play Mah Jongg, so yesterday was a breeze.
First island movie that came to mind is Cast Away with Tom Hanks.
Love your new header. Linda made my header a few years ago. She is a sweetheart.
Our dogs run us as well. I really like your answers, I can relate.

I love your blog's new look and the "watercolor" of your home, too. Very fun and classy...just like you!! :)
ReplyDeleteBlog looks fabulous......Love your bathing suit!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you live so close to the water...how wonderful (except in the January cold!) I used to love watching Gilligan's Island...that brings back lots of memories. Oh, and I think my eyes are permanently scarred from that bikini picture! Have a wonderful Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteI always put lots of salt on my corn on the cob! I also used to love Gilligan's Island! Wasn't that a nasty storm? We were hit with tons of rain and wind too. So, of course I also have that nice wet dog smell here... Enjoy the rest of your week!
ReplyDeleteShelley
I love the boy watching exercise pic! Hub salts before tasting...after 30+ years I still nag him!
ReplyDeletesniff, sniff......I'm not on your blogroll anymore....sniff,sniff...
ReplyDeleteI love salt waaaaaaaay too much. Just look at blood pressure cuff!
Loved your answers!! We are alike in several ways....lol....except I would NEVER wear a 2 piece to the beach to boy watch!
ReplyDeleteMy father always said that same phrase. If you don't have your health--you don't have anything. He had Parkinson's so he knew what he was talking about. xo Diana
Oh, our answer to sticking our head in the sand was pretty much the same. Ugh! it's pitiful! Love your new blog design. I'm wanting to do a facelift on mine but just hate to get started. As I've often stated, Chili and Chowdah are just sooooo cute!
ReplyDeleteKatie. Love you and your blog. Can't sleep tonight so.. 1-The sea; 2-not at all; 3-the sands of time; 4-The Pina Colada song; 5-I ran it. ReplyDeleteIt's such a treat visiting you, Katie. Stay salty, my friend!
ReplyDeleteYour new design is so fresh and snappy just like its owner. Love it! Also, can definitely appreciate the beach watching activity. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou would find me in a beach chair with a good book or two. I really love your new blog design. It definitely suits you.
ReplyDeleteKatie, such a fun post. I love salt too. Love the pic of the head in the sand.....LOL
ReplyDeleteThe pups are quite cute. They are like our children. You will not find me in a two piece bathing suit. Enjoy your new blog design and thank you for the opportunity to create a new design.
YES I SALT TOO BUT I always TASTE before...........do you have your OWN little SILVER or CRYSTAL salt cellar sitting beside your wine glass?TRY AND MAKE THE MISTER HAPPY!!!!!!!AFTER ALL HE COOKED.
ReplyDeleteTAKE ONE BITE.THEN REACH FOR THE SALT!!!!!
LOVED GILLIGANS ISLAND.......we all wanted to be MARY ANN!
I love the blog fairy Linda! She did a fantastic job and your blog looks super! I wish I lived close to the water. Always wanted to. And I loved Gilligan's Island and Mary Ann as well.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
I always love your hodgepodge! And close enough to walk to the water? Ah, water envy! But stay cozy there -- I've heard the east is being pummelled!
ReplyDeleteAlways so much fun. Plus, I share your love of salt. I think it might be because I have low blood pressure, or at least that's my story, and I'm sticking to it! Margarita without salt on the rim just isn't a margarita.
ReplyDeletexo,
Karen
Oh, my Lordy! I lost track of everything else I was going to say after the boy watching photo. Must wash my eyes out now!!!! Bahahaha!
ReplyDeleteLinda is my blog fairy too. Love your new header! Sheila
ReplyDeleteAs always, your blog post gave me so many chuckles! Your new blog look is great. That header!!!! Love it. And I always enjoy glimpses of your sweet pups, wet or dry.
ReplyDeleteLove the new look! My daughter is going to help me with a re-do here, but has had so much trouble with her computer. Those doggie rain coats are the cutest : )
ReplyDeleteLinda does, indeed, do a great job! Thanks for the resource. That photo of the over-sized woman in the bikini on the beach is bringing me flashback memories of my summer job during college working at a bathing suit shop on Clearwater Beach. Not everyone should wear a bikini.
