Mom once told me:
No one will ever bear the bond that you and your sister share.
Never has she been more right.
From our upbringing to the majority of my wardrobe, we have shared it all. You were the one that split that last piece of moms famous "pea pizza" with me. The one who pulled out your makeup collection before every special occasion to ensure I was the most glamorous girl there. The one who feigned laughter at dad's notoriously lame jokes with me. The one who rolled your eyes when the phone announced another call from mom's sister in unison with me. The one who brings me into reality when I need to be. The one who stole my frosting and suffered with the boot because of it. The one who cried with me when I thought all was hopeless. The one who let me sleep in her bed when there was a monster knocking on the attic door.
You are the one who would move mountains for a stranger you met on the street but would never tell a soul.
Stray dogs bring you to tears, not to mention Harry Potter trailers, but that's another story.
You are the one who temporarily creates the illusion otherwise, but has the biggest heart of anyone I know.
I pray for you all the good things in life. Have the self-awareness to know your infinite worth and never settle for anything less.
You have become a role model for me, embarking on adventures and taking on challenges that never cease to amaze me. From a young age, I noted the grace, poise, and sheer confidence that you emanate. I also saw a fearlessness in you that I could only attempt to recreate; it is the gift that God has blessed you with, never take that for granted.
Happy birthday to you, my sister. You have successfully conquered 21 years; I wish for you so many more happy, healthy celebrations. Take advantage of the place you are in life, like I know you will.
I must say, my only regret is missing the first twenty months of your life.
I love you sisser. Go set the world on fire.

Hello, I'm Katie
I'm Katie. Welcome to my blog. I am an empty nester meandering through my midlife years one page at a time. We sold our antique home on the South Shore of Massachusetts in October 2020 and relocated to the Dallas suburbs and our forever home.
I love to write about books, movies, TV, celebrities, shopping, decorating, Bravo, and weekend adventures. My favorite writing material, however, is derived from my family: the Mister, my girls, #1 and #2, my favorite son-in-law, and my new little mischief-maker, thoroughly darling Millie. I love hearing from my wonderful readers.

Sooo cute. In my toast to my Sistah (#2) on her wedding day, I told her my biggest blessing in life was to only have to wait 18 months to meet my best friend! This makes me want to write my sister a nice letter on her birthday this year!
ReplyDeleteYou have an eloquent as well as a loving daughter!
ReplyDeleteThis made me well up...how beautiful. And your girls appear to be as beautiful on the inside as they clearly are on the outside. I have two very eligible sons 25 and 22 (wink) they would DIE if they saw me writing this:) I was so struck by the "you would move mountains to help a stranger without telling a soul"....my kinda gal!
ReplyDeleteGrowing up with my one and only sister, 13 months younger..we were and still are inseparable. She is like "my other half"....so I relate to the closeness that your girls seem to share. Its a very special unbreakable bond. This is as much a testament to them as it is to you their mother for raising such fine young ladies...congrats to ALL of you!
This is so sweet. Your daughters are just beautiful.

Laura
