A Sentimental Gift Idea

Hello, dear friends.  It is 5:06AM, and I am sitting here wrapped in my coffee-stained fleece robe listening to the blustery winds outside.  It was a wild ride last night but lucky for us we got very little snow.  Tree damage assessment will happen at sunrise.

Most bloggers begin decorating for Christmas before Thanksgiving.  Meanwhile, I haven't taken down my Halloween decorations.  So rather than burning calories trimming the tree, I decided to sit on my duff and write about them.

I love Christmas ornaments. Every year when I trim the tree it warms my heart when I come across ornaments I have received from friends and family reminding me of a happy memory.

My friend Kate the Great introduced me to the idea of attaching a cute ornament to a gift.  It gives a wrapped present a splash of personality.

This is one of KTG's ornaments that she sent me years ago.
Do you see the resemblance?

A great way to snazz up a bottle of wine is to attach an ornament with a pretty bow.

A certain Mister is a hot dog aficionado and may find this little beauty on our tree this year.

These little photo frames are wonderful for friends and relatives that live out of town.  I used to attach these to my Sister's gifts when the girls were little, and they would actually pose for pictures.

Another idea is placing a photo of someone on your tree who has recently passed.

Guess who is ordering this ornament.

This will be one for next year.

I'm willing to bet that this gift will be the biggest hit of the holiday.

  1. Funny you should mention Christmas. I've been thinking about putting up my little tree and my decorations, but I know my husband would flip. After Thanksgiving I will break it all out and decorate!

  3. I love ornaments and have WAY too many. I like to attach one on a wine bottle for a hostess gift or tie onto a package. Sometimes I even do that with ones I have in my go-to-Goodwill pile. (Don't tell.) You found some cuties here!

I respect the Bird. But the Friday after Thanksgiving? All bets are off!

  9. I love the idea of ornaments! Since we have one son who is in the Army and one who is a nurse, it's easy to find ornaments. I started that tradition last year. :)

  12. You've pulled together a fun collection of ornaments. Like you, I feel very sentimental about our ornaments. I love beautiful ornaments, and still find myself getting extragavant with adding more. Not that our tree needs any more. It's just that I can't resists adding a few new ones each year.

  13. LOL- Nothing like a squirrel in underpants. I really like the idea of attaching an ornament to a package. Great idea. I also like the clear ornament filled with literature. I think I will make one myself for my Jujubean that love Harry Potter. Love the idea!!! Have a wonderful Sunday- xo Diana

  14. I love this idea and began doing this for gifts that go under the tree. I love your selection, something for everyone. It's also a fun idea for new babies arriving in the family. When our Connor was born I would add cutesy baby things, now that he's ten it's not hard to keep the tradition going! Hope you didn't have a lot of tree damage but your morning sounds wonderful:) Happy Thanksgiving!
