Needlepointing My Way Through Hodgepodge

Hello, dear friends.  Is anybody having trouble getting up in the morning like me?  The open windows and cooler temps make for comfy sleeping weather.  Thank the Lord I don't have toddlers.  They would have to learn to make their own breakfast and drive themselves to school every morning.

1.  Have you ever been to and/or lived near the desert?  What did you think?  Travel and Leisure lists the 'coolest' American desert towns as -

Palm Springs CA, Virginia City  NE, Bend OR, Winslow AZ, Marfa TX, Grand Junction CO, Silver City NM, Moab UT,  Taos NM, Yakima WA, Borrego Springs CA, Terlingua TX, and St. George UT, and Tubac.

Have you been to any of these?  Would you like to visit a desert town?  Which on the list would you like to see?

I have not been to any of the places mentioned.  The one that I would like to visit is Palm Springs.

My first stop would be the fabulous flea market that is the talk of the town.  And it's not just for the goods.  Rumor has it that it's a great spot for star spotting.

My second stop would be the Walk of Stars.

I told you I was shallow.

2.  What's a plan or project you've deserted in the past year?

There are a few needlepoint projects that desperately need my attention.

3.  Desert-dessert?  Share two or three words you find yourself having to think twice about when it comes to spelling.

Grammarly corrects me on my spelling of hors d'oeuvres every time.  Remind me to put a little extra something in Mr. Grammarly's Christmas stocking this year.

4.  High and dry, like watching paint dry, dry run, dry as dust, not a dry eye in the house... which phrase can you relate to currently? Explain.

Probably not a dry eye in the house because I'm a sucker for a sentimental commercial like this one that's on about 25 times a day for Amazon Prime.

5.  How often do you frequent the dry cleaners?  Starch or no starch?

I use the dry cleaners a lot more in the winter than I do the summer.  The price of dry cleaning here in the Northeast is about 3 times the price than in Texas.  It might be cheaper to buy new stuff!?!

Extra starch, please.

6.  What's a food or beverage you enjoy that's named for a place?

It took me less than 10 seconds to come up with an answer to this one.

7.  Do you need solitude?

You bet I need solitude.
At least 8 hours a day.

8. Insert your random thought.

Stop over and say hello to my friend, The Vintage Contessa who writes about our visit in beautiful Newport over the Summer.  She is true royalty and loads of fun.

Until next time...

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Feel free to contact me through comments and email. I love to hear from my readers!

  1. About a hundred years ago, we used to frequent Gino's East (in Chicago). What fun memories that dredged up this morning! The weather's cooler here too. Fifties, I think. Seems early to have an electric blanket on though, doesn't it.

  2. I am loving these cooler mornings but it really makes it harder to get out of bed! My boys feel the same way and almost missed the bus this morning! As you might have guessed, I am a huge fan of that lion costume commercial! Have a great rest of the week!

  3. Loved visiting Arizona when my sons were little -- nice, dry heat and low/no humidity! Perfect for my hair! :) My phrase for the next few weeks will be "it looks worse than it feels" as I have a huge shiner from a stupid accident with a ladder! Your pizza photos make me hungry this morning, but first chocolate! Have a great day!

  4. I love that we can open the windows now that it has cooled off. That pizza looks delish but I am partial to NY pizza ;) I cry at commercials too. Happy Wednesday!

  5. Ahhh the giant Marilyn, I got my picture taken with her when it was in Chicago. And we got deep dish pizza that day too! Fun Hodgepodge and Hallelujah...cooler temps!

  6. I would like some Chicago pizza right now please! Good choice :-)

  7. I lived near Palm Springs when my children were growing up. Very hot in the summer. Spent most of my time submerged in the pool. I have a needle point project that is at the same stage as yours. I just pulled it out of the basket to work on. Okay, I pulled it out two weeks ago, but I am looking at it. xo Laura

  8. Oy. I started a needlepoint project 35 years ago. Still not finished. Thanks for reminding me but I still love you.

  9. Yep, Chicago Pizza was my choice too. I get all sentimental when I see the lion costume commercial, it's one of my favorites! It reminds me of my favorite toy when I was about 5 - "Larry the Lion", you pulled the string and he would roar and say "I'm king of the jungle". Larry looked just like the sweet pup in the commercial. Have a great week.
    Lori in Blue Ridge, GA

  10. I'm not really a desert person. My dad use to live in Albuquerque & I wasn't a fan of the desert-scape! I like green grass & trees! I'm not really a dessert person either...but I think I could eat half of that Chicago pizza! Yum!!
And yes, yes, yes I need solitude!! It's the only child in me! :)

  11. Oh, Katie, that picture in #7 made my OCD self have a fit!!!! :o)) I'd love some Chicago Pizza for dinner tonight but that's probably not going to happen. You always make me laugh!

  12. I've been to many of the desert towns on the list, but would love to visit Palm Springs. Lots of unfinished needlepoint in my basket. I don't know anyone who is an avid stitcher who doesn't have a basket of unfinished projects. Ingenuous and ingenious . . . dry run as I plan a centerpiece for an upcoming out of town meeting . . . dry cleaners mostly in winter . . . French Toast . . . solitude, especially this afternoon after a full week of being away from home . . .
Random thought ~ look at pearls and think of you, beautiful friend.

  13. I've been to Palm Springs....loved it! It's not on your list but I went to undergrad in Tucson, AZ and have been back many times since. It's gorgeous! Canyon Ranch Spa and Lowes Ventana Canyon are great places to stay, and of course the Arizona Inn is just lovely! xo

  14. I cry at commercials too. Haven't seen this one, though. I've been watching Netflicks too much I guess.

  15. I have been to THREE of those DESSERT Places..........OPPS I MEAN DESERT HOT SPOTS!

  17. $4.00 EACH!!!!!
Thought YOU would want to know!

  18. Love your hodgepodge. I've never been to a desert town, although I would like to visit a dessert town! Your needlepoint, my cross stitch. I blogged about a cross stitch project, and I still haven't finished it! -Jenn

  19. I can only imagine how much trouble you and Elizabeth got into! A little bird told me you had a fabulous time! I am not a huge fan of the dessert in general but that could change who knows!

  20. I love Palm Springs --especially the mid century mod vibe -- when it's not TOO hot. Don't go in summer! It is SO fun that you and the fab Contessa got to meet. She's a doll. I met her at a Blogger's get together in Napa a couple of years ago. Love the pic of you two!
    Have a fab weekend, Katie!
    xx, Heather
