Mad About Mercury Glass

Hello, dear friends.  TGIF!  The other night, I enjoyed another fabulous evening with my book club buds.  This group of ladies appreciates a hardy laugh and a glass of vino as much as a good book.  It was held at a beautiful antique home on the water.  I felt like I was on a movie set.

We read and discussed Orphan Train.  Everyone enjoyed it very much.

In my continuous quest in my search for the perfect Fall table setting, I found myself falling in love.  Don't get nervous - I'm not going to pull a Brangelina move.  I found myself enthralled with mercury glass.  I think I may be reverting back to my childhood.  I used to adore things that were shiny and shimmery.

I just think that mercury glass gives the table just enough sparkle and elegance.

I spent the day yesterday on a pilgrimage in search of mercury glass pumpkins.   After combing through practically every Homegoods and Marshalls in Massachusetts,  mission accomplished.

I will share my photos with you next week.  In the meantime, I hope that your weekend is full of sparkle.

  1. Hi Katie, I am a new reader thanks to a friend who told me about your blog. I love mercury glass too and I have seen some good deals on mercury glass pumpkins at TJ Maxx. And when you see them you had better get them right away. Too many times I have passed on an item there and when I made up my mind, it was GONE. I have learned my lesson. Love your beautiful home as I have always been enamored of New England houses. I live in north Alabama where we have pretty homes too but a white house with black shutters has always been my dream home.

    1. Hi Arlene! Welcome! You are right about picking up items right away when it comes to my beloved Marshalls, TJ's, and Homegoods. I always think that if it doesn't work out, I can always return the item. Sweet Home Alabama is one of my favorite movies. Please thank your friend for pointing you in my direction. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

  7. I am also a huge fan of mercury glass. We used lots of it on the tables at my daughter's wedding reception. So pretty with candlelight! I need more for my house but am trying to wait til we are in.

  9. Oh my goodness! So pretty! Of course if I had Mercury glass, it would be covered with little, tiny fingerprints! But, maybe one day! :)

  10. Oh, I've been collecting mercury glass for several years and absolutely love it. Our dining table is decorated with mercury glass candle sticks of various heights and widths on a mirrored runner. I really should get some pumpkins to add in the fall. Maybe I'll go on a search for these. Like I need more stuff! Happy weekend!

  11. Love the beautiful table settings with the mercury pumpkins! I am ready for fall!...I would love a couple of your suggestions for a one-week New England tour. My husband and I are flying into Boston Sunday mid-afternoon. We spent 1-1/2 days there about the time you moved from Texas...and I could tell why you enjoy living in the Northeast! We have been to Bar Harbor while on a cruise...Do you have five favs to suggest? Planned to go to Kennebunkport, Portland, Cape Cod, Newport--suggest The Brinkers or another tour? We are renting a car leaving Boston and returning it the following Sunday. Originally, we were going to go North first and circle around and down to Newport and around to the Cape. I have been told that it might take too much time out of our trip to go Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket.

I so enjoy your blog and your sense of humor! Regards from Dallas...Debra

  12. Ahh gorgeous. I, too, love Mercury Glass very classic but also can give you a vintage feel all the same. I am really finding myself being pulled towards copper when it comes to fall decor and I have never been much a copper lover. Hmmm? I hope your weekend is delightful. I am now smiling thanks to all your beautiful photos in this post! xo friend!

  16. Orphan Train is one of those books I started and never finished, maybe I should take it out from my dusty pile and finish! I LOVE your pictures of the mercury glass, you have my mind racing..thanks a lot, not that I need an ounce more stimulation, lol.

I love using it for Christmas but in love with all the pumpkins...how beautiful! Hope you enjoy this fabulous fall day.

  19. We need to start some sort of Home Goods shopping cooperative. I've been driving all over the greater Chicagoland area looking for a particular item for newest grandson's room. I could have had you on the hunt for that while I looked for Mercury glass!! Double the Home Goods in half the time...or something like that. We will ignore the fact that shipping items to each other will cut into the fabulous HG savings.
