Reading Between the Lines

I hope this post finds you well.  The weather has been beautiful the past few days.  Friday night, we were supposed to meet some old friends for dinner.  We had to cancel because I woke up with a migraine that had me in its clutches all day long.

Saturday, I woke up fit as a fiddle.  We met the Adorables (AJ's parents) in Plano at one of my favorite places, Seasons 52.  The food was delicious, and as always, the company was delightful.

Here's a rundown of what I have been reading and the books I look forward to reading.

Did I mention this book before? It centers around three generations of strong, likable women.  After reading this, I realized how much I love reading stories about families.

I am a huge Peter Swanson fan.  This was the second book in a series.  The first one was The Kind Worth Killing.  This is a stand-alone novel.  The author did not let me down.  It begins when a former student hires a teacher-turned-detective to determine if her husband is having an affair with a coworker.  This opens Pandora's box, brimming with twists and turns.

I was so excited about this book.  The author wrote Defending Jacob, which I loved.  This novel centers around a woman who goes missing.  She is a wife of an attorney and the mother of three children.  All eyes are on her husband.  It was a good story, but at times it dragged.

It all begins when an elderly woman spies the next-door neighbors carrying a "heavy load" wrapped in a rug.  We then find out that their cleaning woman keeps a diary.  Let the games begin.
This was a fast read with some surprising twists.

I am a big fan of Michelle Campbell.  This is the story of a crooked judge and her intern.  Never a dull moment in this nail-biter.  This comes out in the Fall.

I have read a lot of Daniel Hurst's books.  This one centers around two couples and one huge secret.  It kept me turning the pages.

Mean moms beget mean girls.  A mother and daughter move to an idyllic town for a new start.  It is an understatement to say that their fellow moms and daughters were less than hospitable.

It's 1870's Vienna, and Maria throws a ball for her hotel's comeback.  Distraction is in the air as an American agent investigates Maria and leaked codes.

Last Summer, I was thrilled to get an advance copy of this book by one of my favorite authors.  This novel tells the story of two "happily" married couples and the secrets they keep.
This comes out April 4th.

I am listening to this one now and chuckling all the way.

There are so many great books coming out in April.

I am so excited about this fictionalized version of the life of Estee Lauder.  I worked part-time at a Lauder counter and loved every minute of it.  An added bonus:  it is written by one of my favorite authors.

I've read all of this author's books and enjoyed them.  This novel revolves around an American heiress who may not be what she makes out to be.

Queen Elizabeth's Coronation Day is the backdrop in the lives of a hotel owner, a photographer, and an artist.

Can't wait!

From the bestselling author of The Glass Castle comes a riveting new novel about an indomitable young woman in Virginia during Prohibition.

It comes out today.

Two former female spies, bound together by their past, risk everything to hunt down an infamous Nazi doctor in the aftermath of World War II—a pulse-pounding novel inspired by actual events from the New York Times bestselling author of Lilac Girls.

Ten years ago, after a sun-soaked summer spent in Greece, best friends Bess and Joni were cleared of involvement in their friend Evangeline's death.

A collection of deeply personal conversations from award-winning actress and activist Laura Dern and the woman she admires most, her mother—legendary actress Diane Ladd

A twisting new psychological thriller in which two women—one a former detective, the other a dangerous con artist—go head-to-head in an electrifying game of cat and mouse.

One of the Mister's favorite authors.

  4. I was really looking forward to All that is Mine I Carry With Me but was disappointed. I did not love the format and seemed a bit all over the place. I loved Defending Jacob too.

  7. You mentioned two of my favorites, Seasons 52 and David Baldacci. I wish I could stay focused on reading long enough to enjoy it, but am reading Mike Pompeo's "Never Give an Inch."

  8. I read junk. Your books always sound amazing and then I read silly detective stories, some that even have ghosts to help solve mysteries. I read junk.

  9. Hi Katie! It's Gray - trying to comment again. Let's see how it goes!
I love it when you give us all these great titles. HOW do you read so many books?
I have been reading non-stop this year and am only on my fourth book. I have over 400 books on my Good Reads shelves. At 24 books a year, it's a problem....

  15. As a former Estee Lauder girl for Lord & Taylor (and you too!) I'll be putting the Easter baskets on hold while I read Fifth Avenue Glamor Girl! I'll never know how you fit all this in when there are only 24 hrs in a day? I'm just grateful you do! KTG
