The McFriday Files

Happy St. Paddy's Day!  I hope that you had a good week.  Yesterday, storms whipped through North Texas.  I met some old friends for a delicious Mexican lunch at one of my favorite spots, Gloria's.  The best part of returning to a town you lived in is renewing old friendships.

Speaking of friends, I made a new one on Wednesday.  Here's the back story.  My #1 and Adorable Jonathon stopped into Ballard Designs a couple of years ago.  A darling lady named Katy introduced herself and told them she reads my blog.  Fast forward a year, and they sat next to each other at a restaurant.  They chatted it up for a while, and the next day my #1 called me and told me that I would love Katy - she is my kind of person.

I emailed Katy and set up a lunch date.  We met at another favorite place of mine, R&D Kitchen.  Three hours flew by as we bonded over Real Housewives, shopping, decorating, and blogs.

My #1 was correct.
Now she tells me I owe her a finder's fee.

Step into this magnificent Wiltshire Estate and read its fascinating history.

An interesting renovation story is attached to this stately home in Athens, Georgia.

Do you consider yourself a lucky person?
Here's an interesting take on that phenomenon.

Have you ever been to Ireland?
I have, but I was a whiny teenager, so it doesn't really count.

Here is an interesting article on making friends as adults, and it has nothing to do with luck.

If you are like me and don't care for corned beef and cabbage, here's another idea.

How about an Irish Weekend Fry-up this weekend?

Here are some tips on starting a vegetable garden from the pros.

This is for Sista, who didn't believe me when I told her that studies report that Stevia is not as sweet as it seems

Here's some advice from a Harvard career expert.

Happy Pub Week to one of my favorite authors.
My pal, Oprah, liked it as much as I did.
Great minds think alike.
If you enjoy a book centering around complicated family relationships, this book is for you.

Peter Swanson is another favorite author of mine.
This book was released this week, and I just finished listening to it.
He did not disappoint.

The last book I read by this author was Defending Jacob.
I am now listening to this, which moves quickly and is intriguing.

The most lovable coach in the world is back.
Biscuit recipe?
Right here.

Lucky Hank premieres tonight, and it looks good.

The Boston Strangler premieres tonight with one of my favorite actresses, Keira Knightly.

Spoiler alert:  She doesn't play the strangler.

What do these two people have in common?

  1. You outdid yourself with today's house tours! I'm swooning. Don't worry about corned beef and cabbage. My grandmother, born and raised in Ireland, said that people in Ireland don't eat that on St. Patrick's Day. This year it's Friday in Lent so meat is a no-no anway.

We celebrate St. Patrick's Day with Jameson basted salmon, Guinness Carrots, Cabbage and Noodles and Bailey's Irish Cream Cheesecake. Happy St. Paddy's Day to you and the Mister. Cookie G

  4. Every single time you share your house tours my favorites are always those of New England and the surrounding areas... yet I constantly tell my husband I want to move out of New England! Maybe I just need to build or ship a house somewhere down south and have that New England coastal feel but with warm tropical waters and breezes!

  7. Hi Katie,

I think you are a collector of best friends. If you’re so inclined to collect anything I think best friends are an excellent thing to collect. I have a feeling you are a big collector. Are you reaching to 100? Now your No 1 daughter is attaching a “finders fee,”you better come across because you know how she can be. 🤣

    Have a lovely weekend.

  9. Hi Katie, omg your posts were in my spam folder! Bob odenkirk is one of my favorite people! Of course, I already forgot the title of his new show! Pinned that navy kitchen and nook because I think I need a nook with built-ins. Don't you love our #1's. I am in charge of the wedding cake (the tiered one for them to cut). It's too much pressure! We just finished Your Honor #2. Love Bryan Cranston! Okay I forgot everything else I wanted to mention! xo laura
