My Favorite Things / Hair Edition

Hello, dear friends.  Happy almost-Friday!  We are having a lot of rain, but the weather peeps promise sunshine by noon.  Hopefully, I'll be able to fit in my walk today.

As I am sure you have gathered, today's post is all about my favorite hair products.  I have been coloring my hair for a very long time.  It all started when I was in my teens and decided to give Sun-In a whirl.

I will neither confirm nor deny that the brassy broad on the left is moi.  I will tell you, however, that the lovely young lady on the right is my high school bud, MHB.

The saddest part of this transitional time in my life was that I honestly thought I looked like Cybill Shephard!

A quick note about Amazon.  I live out in the country, and a Sephora or Ulta are located at least thirty minutes away.  I order all of the mentioned products on Amazon Prime because the other two stores charge shipping if it's under a certain dollar amount.

Fair warning on Amazon!  I always read the reviews to find out which products are the real thing.  I've learned the hard way that just because they are on Amazon doesn't mean that they are the genuine article.  There are a lot of fakes out there, so you need to take the time to glance at the reviews.  Also, look for the label Amazon's Choice.

Not to worry, before I post a link, I make sure it is legit.

I complimented my Book Club buddy, Mary Frances' hair last year, and she sang the praises of the Living Proof line.  I started using it and have never looked back.  Now I use a lot of their products.

My go-to shower buddies.
The Mister is instructed he cannot use my good stuff!

I look for a few things in a shampoo. I like it to whip into a rich lather, have a pleasant scent, and preserve my "natural" hair color.  Living Proof does all three and manages to keep my color looking fresh.

This conditioner is the bomb!  I have used many color care conditioners that make my hair feel heavy and look greasy after a day or two.  I have recently learned that this is caused by silicones.  Living Proof is silicone-free.  I can go longer between shampoos, and it makes my hair feel soft and silky.

I have two words for you:  game-changer.  My girls turned me on to this product over Christmas.  It is a hair mask that I use every week or so to repair the damage that I have endured from all the sun, coloring, and highlights over the years.  I apply it to damp hair and leave it on for about an hour.  Then I rinse, shampoo, and condition.

Disclosure:  I have it working its magic while I am writing this.
I would show you, but I don't want to scare you!

The only way that I can describe this product is that it makes my hair look and feel younger.  It also keeps my hair soft through several shampoos.

I like Olaplex so much that I have given it as a gift to some buddies of mine.

I was late to the party when these wet brushes came on the market.  They do make a difference.  No more fighting with my knots and tangles.

I really could have used one of these when my girls were little.  It would have saved me from listening to a lot of screaming and theatrics.

I've been using this leave-in nourishing treatment for years.  It does ten wonderful things for you - but I can only remember one.  I use it to add shine to my hair.

You'll have to look up the other nine.

I use this spray on high-humidity days.
All you have to do is spray it on dry hair and does a fabulous job de-frizzing.

I've tried a lot of dry shampoos in my lifetime.
Does anyone remember Pssssssst?
Without a doubt, Perfect Hair Day is the best dry shampoo out there.

Great smell and makes my hair actually feel clean.

I spray this on wet hair before I dry it for heat protection.

I have used this hairdryer/styler for about a year now.  I have perfected my routine since day one.  I use my regular hairdryer for a few minutes until my hair is damp dry.  I then bring in the big guns - this guy - and style away.  I am always happy with the result.

Amazon

I get my hair professionally colored every 5 to 6 weeks.  It never fails - I always have something special happening on that 4th week while I am donning a quarter-inch of grey.  This is where this root touch-up comes in handy.  I just use it on my part and around my hairline and call it a day.

This kit is easy to use and very neat if you are a normal person.
It's a whiz on eyebrows too!

Amazon

I never claimed to be a normal person.
I always end up having to clean around the hairline and wrists.
 These wipes are great.

Amazon

I love these hair ties!
They are so comfortable and no more ripping out half of my hair when I remove them.

That's it for now.
If you're looking for me, I will be celebrating Sista's birthday!

What are your favorite hair products?
I'd love to hear from you!

Until next time...

And I thought that I had bad hair days!

  2. Hi Katie, I just added the Living Proof dry shampoo to my cart. Thank you! I love that stuff too! Sun in! Oh my that brings back memories. My sister and I were like Jan Brady the way she applied lemons to her freckles. We applied every alcohol based product to lighten our hair!

  3. I love the Living Proof Perfect Hair Day 5 in 1 styling cream. I don't remember what the five things it does are, either, but it cuts down my drying time and makes my hair smooth and shiny. Funny story....my husband has been using the lavender shampoo that keeps my blonde nice and he's convinced it is turning his hair silver! I hate to burst his bubble but I think it's because he's 60! lol

  4. I use Pantene shampoo and conditioner for curly hair. I quit coloring several years ago and I just shake my gray/white curls and let it dry. I have quit fighting natural curls! Thanks for sharing your products with us!!

  5. Color Wow spray every 3-5 washes preserves color, leaves you completely de-frizzed and adds shine and more shine. Just remember.. every 3-6 washes.. more often and your hair will be flat and greasy. Kevin Murphy anti gravity spray. I use this after every wash before blow drying. It adds volume and can be used after every wash. Both available on Amazon.

  7. I am one of those awful gals who uses whatever is on sale. :0 However I do like to use the purple shampoo on my white hair to keep it from having yellow tones. Loved reading about your favorites and put a few of them on my wish list at Amazon so I can remember them.

  8. I am gong to try Living Proof. I have been using Adeda products for a few years now because my salon sell them, but I’ve yet to find one that really does the trick. Pure Abundance is not bad but weighs my hair down. As usual, thanks for all the great suggestions! I shop on Amazon a lot and I always read the reviews!

  9. I am finally going to order that Revlon drying brush and stop thinking about doing it. Florida humidity does a number on my hair some days and while I can use heat and a round brush, this seems a better option.

  10. Hi Katie
I always love your favorites. As you know I use gray hair products on my "natural" hair but I am going to check those ties out and that blow drier thing. Is the barrel quite large? I used to have a similar contraption that I loved but now that my hair is longer the barrel isn't large enough.

  11. You crack me up Katie! Even though I don't color my hair, I read every word of this post. You always make me laugh! That dry shampoo on the other hand - I may have to try that! Thanks as always for the recommendations and the fun!

  12. Love, love all things hair related and may have to give a couple of these a whirl. Good to get a Katie laugh this evening. I've missed visiting your blog. I've been a slacker. Shame on me! Happy week!

  13. So I use several of those products..I do have a recommendation for anyone with think and fine hair, it's Brocato Blonde Swell. (You do not have to have blonde hair..ha!) It is a cream that you apply to your hair wet and when it heats up while being dried it actually swells the hair! For someone who has extremely fine hair, it's a GAME CHANGER!

  14. I will have to admit that hair products are not high on my interest list. I do use a good shampoo but not a conditioner. I use Moroccan Oil Volumizing Mousse and Root Boost and a Pantene hair spray. So far, I'm not complaining, but you do make a good case for your products.

  16. I am super excited to try the "hair mask" it sounds divine. I have been eyeing Revlon air brush but wasn't sure, thanks for your review. I like the idea of drying my hair a bit and using it as a "style" dryer. I have been hesitant to use it to dry all my hair, your tip really helped!

  17. Some great picks Katie. Olaplex is brilliant, I have it in the salon, but haven't used it at home (I'm too impatient to wait!). The Living Proof products are also good. Thanks for sharing at #WowOnWednesday.

  20. Oh my gosh, I took Sun-In abuse to the next level. I shudder to think of it. Thankfully, that phase passed quickly and did no permanent damage. I’’ve been curious about Living Proof products. Isn’t this the brand Jennifer Aniston bought into? If it’s good enough for her and the Preppy Empty Nester, I’m sold. xo
