A Delightful Dinner Party

Happy New Year, dear friends.  I hope that you enjoyed your holiday.

I don't know about you, but the week between Christmas and New Year's Day throws me into a whirlwind.  I can never figure out what day it is, let alone the actual time of day.  I just seem to walk around in a sugar fog brought on by my mandatory carb loading.  Everything is off kilter - my TV shows, trash day, even holy sheet day  (my day to change the sheets).  So I sit here on New Year's Day, which I think is Friday.  Or maybe it's Saturday.   Whatever.

A week before Christmas, my bff, Anne, and her Mister, invited us to a dinner party at their beautiful home.  Anne is the epitome of the Hostess with theMostess and is well-matched with her Mister, who is a charming host.  Last time we were there I wrote a post about our lovely evening.

The minute you enter Anne and her Mister's home you can't help but feel the warmth and coziness of it.   The house is filled with a savory aroma that makes your mouth water and promises a delicious meal to come.

I love these chairs in Anne's kitchen.  Just makes me want to sit down and watch her spin her magic.

The Christmas decor highlighted the beauty and detail of this exquisite antique home.

Anne and her Mister invited two other couples.  Both were such fun and so welcoming to us.  All three couples have known each other forever, and the Mister and I enjoyed hearing all of their entertaining stories of years past.

A beautiful table was the perfect canvas for Anne's fabulous dinner.  The Mister is still talking about her lamb stew, soubise, field greens and the most delicious caramel cake I have ever tasted.

Can you spot the Mister bragging about his supermodel wife?

It was a positively delightful evening and a great way to begin the holiday week.

Last but not least, I want to wish our #1 a very happy 24th birthday.  We are so proud of you.  My hope is that you always enjoy life as you do now, and never lose that wicked sense of humor.

Until next time...

I'm Katie. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I am an empty nester meandering through my middle-aged years while entangled in the never-ending process of renovating an antique home on the South Shore of Massachusetts. I love to write about books, movies, TV, celebrities, decorating, and weekend adventures. My favorite writing material is derived from my family: the Mister, my girls, #1 and #2, and my two untrainable, rambunctious pups, Chowdah and Chili.

  1. What a beautiful evening! It seems fewer people than ever know how to or even want to make the effort to entertain well. Your friend certainly has the touch! Lucky you!
I'm with you on not knowing what day it is. Crazy schedules for us all!
Have a wonderful end to your weekend — at least I think it's the weekend!

  2. Absolutely lovely...the kitchen reminded me of my childhood home kitchen with the beautiful thick white woodwork; however there was no dishwasher in my childhood home for there were seven children. The tree and all the decor spectacular...I love to listen to stories from others probably because I am a storyteller myself. Happy Birthday #1.

I totally agree with you about the which day of the week is it...last Tuesday in the early morning I heard the trash truck enter my court...I ran out in my pajamas to get the trash out to the street...the sanitation workers had quite a show, but at least I was wearing matching pj's.

  3. What a beautiful home. The older homes have a comfort factor that new builds just don't have. When we built our previous house I was aiming for an old house feel...in a Georgian. How wonderful that you are finding new friends in your new town! Happy New Year, sheila

  4. First happy new year! I am back and catching up...missed being in blogland though I did occasionally check in. What a cozy and festive home....looks like a fun night. I hear you on the food/sugar coma....time to get back to healthier eating though its not going to be easy! I am still dreaming of baked brie:) Hope your 2016 is off to a grand start!

    1. Made 2 baked Brie in the last week...sigh...back on the low carb wagon but I'm ready.

  5. Wow -- what a beautiful home and table. Looks like it was such a wonderful time! My house has a built-in in the dining room just like theirs - so pretty! Happy New Year and Happy Birthday to your beautiful daughter!

  6. WOW!!!! wish I had been invited to that dinner party. Just beautiful and what a nice holiday treat. Thanks for sharing your fun with us. AND, I feel the same way about the week between Christmas and New Years. ugh!

  7. Now that's the way to decorate with antiques! You with your buffalo check and she with her tartan plaid - I love it all. By the way, today is Monday ;)

  8. That is a gorgeous home! Small get togethers with friends are the best no matter what season.

Happy Birthday to your beautiful daughter. :)

  9. What a delightful way to start the New Year! And reading your posts are always a great way to start the day. Happy New Year!

  10. Such a beautiful home and a lovely dinner party - the perfect way to kick off the new year! Happy birthday to #1. What an exciting year for her. Wishing her great happiness and success!

  11. The dinner looks lovely.

During the holidays, I wake up each morning and lie in bed trying to determine the day of the week. The good and bad news: no more confusion.

Happy New Year! I look forward to your 2016 posts!

  12. What a lovely dinner party and a lovely home! Hope your number 1 had a wonderful birthday!

  13. Happy belated Birthday to your #1! Your friend Anne has a beautiful home. I overheard the Mister telling the guests what a fabulous wife he has. Says she hasn't aged a day...
