Springtime Hodgepodge

Good morning, dear friends.  The Mister is finally back to work!  Woohoo!!

Allow me to share some of the mumbling that have gone on this weekend from my favorite patient.

"If I ever make it through this..."

"You have no idea how sick I am."

"I'M NEVER GONNA GET ANY SLEEP IF I DON'T STOP COUGHING!"
He woke me up to share these words with me.

And now back to our regular scheduled programming.

1.  Share a favorite song, book, or movie title containing the word green.

The first song that popped into my head is the theme to Green Acres.  If you are too young to remember this show, you may move on to question 2.

The reason Green Acres theme song came to mind so quickly is that I refer to this house that we are now living in as Green Acres and sing the song to the Mister every chance I get.

Why do I call my new home Green Acres?

* In order to get my mail, I need to trek to the General Store otherwise know as the Genny.

*  Besides the mail, I can find anything from great wine to penny candy to tidbits of the town's juiciest gossip .

*The closest grocery store is 15 minutes away.

But that's okay because if I need anything from eggs to firewood - chances are one of my neighbors is selling them in their barn.  It's usually on the honor system.  There is often a sign posted on a coffee can telling the buyer to make their own change.

And last but not least...

Not unusual to spot wild turkeys in my yard.

2.  Ralph Waldo Emerson is quoted as saying, "Shallow men believe in luck.  Strong men believe in cause and effect.' Would you agree?  Are you a believer in luck?

I've never tried to hide from you the fact from you that I am a shallow person.  I do believe in luck.  How do you explain a family that lacks talent, taste, and tact making millions without a lot of luck and a heaping spoonful of chutzpah?

3.  Spring water, Hot Springs, handspring, spring fling, spring break, spring fever, offspring... which "spring" word best applies to something in your day, week, or life right now?

Oldhouse.com

I would definitely have to say Spring Fever.  When I lived in Texas, I would begin planting my pots during the second week in March.  Tomorrow, we are expecting freezing temps.  Warm weather cannot come soon enough for me.

4.  What's something you do to make yourself look or feel more confident?

I apply make up.  Buckets of it.

5.  It's National Celery Month... are you a fan?  If so, what's a snack or dish that calls for celery?

I like celery with peanut butter on it.  The more peanut butter I can fit onto a stalk, the more I like celery.

6. What's one thing you'd wish you learned sooner?

I would probably started blogging sooner.  Sista had been telling me for years to write a blog.  I had no idea how much I would enjoy it.  The experiences that I have had, as well as the new friends that I have made, are invaluable.

7  Would you like to own a second home?  If so, where would you want that home to be?

Would I like to own a second home?  Heck, yeah!

I would like one that looks just like the gorgeous house in Something's Gotta Give.  And I would like it on a beach in Nantucket.

I would get so much more blogging done if I could work at my desk looking out at the water.

And I would lose 30 lbs., grow six inches, and where nothing but white and beige.  And my hair would look cute all the time.

The Mister could make us gourmet picnic lunches during my blogging breaks.  And then we could laugh at how we are rolling in the dough.

And then I would cry when I found out that this little day dream was just fantasy.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Before the Mister met me and he was a sad sack of a bachelor, he worked an executive chef in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  There he met his mentor and favorite boss, Mr. Harper, who was kind enough to forward this recipe to me for Nova Scotian Hodgepodge Soup.

Take some time to daydream!

  2. That's our favorite movie house too : ) In spite of appearances, the Kardashians must have a bit of brains. They have certainly been saavy enough to earn a few $$$. It boggles the mind, yet the network keeps re-signing, and I guess people watch. I just don't know any of those people. Was your dad in Lamberts Thursday night? Hubs says there was an older gentleman leaving the bar as we were sitting down, and everyone seemed to know him. Their brisket was out of this world. I'd love to go back to Austin...we were only there a day and a half.

  3. Loved this post, Katie. I did not realize that you lived that far out. For some reason I thought you were a "townie". lol Great answers...and as far as hubby's comments about being sick? They must teach them all those same sentences on the QT somewhere around the age of 16. "You have NO idea how sick I am"....(said as I am too sick to move and he is wanting to know if I am making him something "good" to eat)....gotta love them....or hate them...depends on the day. xo Diana

  6. Katie, this was just the BEST HP ever! You always make me laugh out loud and this was no exception. And, I didn't know you lived out either. You just seem to be such a "city slicker." :o)) And, I'm with you on the Kardashians, really??? And, I'm happy for you that Hubby is back at work today. I love mine too death but if he hangs around too much it is just not good for either of us. :o)) Happy Wednesday!

  7. Your hubby sounds so much like mine when he's sick! His big thing every time is, "Where's the thermometer? I think I have a fever?" Cracks me up! Oh, yes, I could do with a house like that in Nantucket. Your captions are hilarious!

  8. For your sake I'm glad The Mister is bettah. For our sake, maybe not. There really must be a manual they get to come up with these lines. Lord deliver me! Have never watched the K Clan - perhaps one of the few who hasn't and have no desire to. Give me doses of any RH show (except Atlanta) and I'm in heaven. And, Nantucket is bliss. Lastly, I see snow flakes are forecast in your future. All this suffering will make that hour and a half of spring worth the wait.

  9. Green Acres is my all time favorite! I am hoping to get a pig one day and name him Mr Haney. Also agree that Diane Keaton in Something's Gotta Give is the absolute all. Glad you get the Mister back on his feet and out of the house!

  10. Wow, you are the Pioneer Woman of the East Coast! I’d like to laugh at the Mister and his dramatic proclamations, but I fear I resemble those remarks. My Mister is traveling (hmmm ... wonder why?) so we can’t ask him.

  11. That last photo is actually me with the peanut butter jar, and yes I can be forced to add a stalk of celery from time to time. Love that DIane Keaton movie, but I pretty much love her in any movie, and I got to meet her when my daughter worked with her. :)

  12. I love your answer to #7. I'll daydream about it ;) If I looked as good as Diane Keaton I would wear beige and white, otherwise not gonna happen (unless there is black mixed in there somehow).
The town wear you live sounds so lovely. I think I'd love it there!

  15. I think I have heard those same complaints before...hmmm! Must be in their dna or something. ha! Prior to our downsize I lived in a similar area...out in the rural area of central Ky. Huge house, lots and lots of land, and no supermarket within abt 30 minute drive. It was like taking the buckboard/SUV to load up for a couple of weeks at a time. Still in a rural area...but a small college town...with a Super Wal Mart. I am moving up in the world. ha! Lancome foundation...have to have it. Second home on beach..not what its cracked up to be with upkeep. hurricane worry, etc. ha! I am two hours from two major cities...Nashville or Louisville, and 2 hours from Lex ky. Have volvo will travel! Great post. Thanks for the chuckles. Sheila

  18. 1. Why do all men act as if a simple cold is the end of the world!?! 2. Looks like the kids might have yet another snowday tomorrow. It is safe to say that we all need spring! 3. A beach house would make everything better! 4. I would give anything for a peanut butter cookie this morning! :)

    Have a great Thursday Katie!!!

  20. I had no idea that there were still places in Mass. where you picked up mail at the PO...So the the Mister is back to work and you can turn the sick ward back into a more productive room for some serious TV watching. I do enjoy some RH, but I can't muster the mind to watch the K's. Have a fabulous weekend.

  21. Wednesday Hodgepodge and you go together like celery and peanut butter! You are so good at this!! By the way, when I win the HGTV Dream Home on Martha's Vineyard (I'm just waiting for the formality of them contacting me to say I've won the contest) we can visit each other traveling between Nantucket and MV on our yachts. Deal?
