A Hodgepodge Covered in Ants

Hello, dear friends.  We have had the most beautiful weather this week - spectacular sunshine during the day and great sleeping weather at night.

Tomorrow I am off to meet friends at the Breakfast with the Authors in lovely Cohasset.

You know the drill.
If it's Wednesday, it's time for Hodgepodge

1. What are your ingredients for a perfect Saturday?

The ingredients would include:  a couple of good buddies, a healthy dose of sunshine, a breathtaking house tour, and a delightful lunch.

On another note, a perfect Saturday would be the mixture of one doting husband, a couple of seaside towns, a mouthwatering lunch, plenty of cute shops, and an unlimited budget.  I may have gone too far on the last one.

2. What skill do you wish more people took the time to learn?

3. What's something you ate as a child you can't stand now as an adult?

The thought of consuming a pixy stick makes my teeth itch.

4. Something parenting has taught you? If you're not a parent tell us one important lesson you learned from your own parents.

Before I was married, I considered children's temper tantrums a result of poor parenting.

I learned the hard way that I was sadly mistaken.

5. Share a favorite quote or saying about mothers or motherhood.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

In the spirit of Mother's Day, I would like to share a little story about my Mom.

When my Sista was in high school, she had an elderly French tutor who worked out of his home.

One day, when picking my Sista up from her lesson, her tutor invited my Mother in for fresh raspberries from his garden.  Monsieur served the fruit in handpainted bowls.  My Mother and the tutor dug in while Sista just moved her spoon around.  My Mother murmured tres bien after every bite.

In the car, my Mother asked Sista why she didn't eat her raspberries.  She responded "Mom, they were covered with ants!  You should wear your glasses more often."

Sista couldn't wait to call me at college to tell me that our Mother ate bugs with her French tutor!

Until next time...

  2. Katie,

Oh, good heavens your poor Mom ate ants! She had an excuse no glasses but what does that say about the tutor? You and I are on cue with #4. Motherhood certainly makes you slow to judge ever again. I loved your motherhood quote - spot on for sure!! Have a wonderful week and blessed M'Day!

  11. Oh Katie... the ant story had me laughing. I wear my glasses for such as that. In fact, I visited the dollar store again yesterday to get me another colorful stash. I NEVER ever want to be without them. I do always put them on and check my food though, so I did think that was hilarious.

  13. My friend once warned me to stay away from the blackberry dessert her mother was offering. Previous bowls of these delectable treats had been known to contain dozens of ants. And yes, how on earth did we inhale those Pixy sticks? Or the dozens of sugar cubes jammed into the hole cut in an orange ... No wonder my dentist was a world traveler ...

  24. Hahaha, that's an hilarious story on your mother! And those pictures of the girls....brings back memories of my own (and today's trip to Sam's, where two boys were screaming while the mom acted like she didn't even know them, lol). The pixie sticks....and we'd eat that stuff right off the palms of our hands. It's a wonder we didn't contract Hep A back then, lol. Have a wonderful Mother's Day!

  29. God morning from your neighbor to the north. Love the "ant" story. Unfortunately, another sign of Spring up here is the battle to keep the ants outside. Ugh! Also, I think that the lesson you learned from parenting has been learned by parents for generations. I enjoyed you post this week. Have a great week.
