My Cosmetic Faves

Hello, dear friends.  Happy Friday.  I love four-day weeks.  Another thing that I love is cosmetics.  I'm not picky; the good stuff and the cheap stuff.  I'm always in search of that one miracle product that is going to take years off my face.  Although I have drawers full of blushes, brushes, foundations, mascaras, and lipsticks, I always seem to go back to my old favorites.

All of the links go to Amazon.  The reason for this is that I live in the country, and it takes me about 40 minutes to reach the closest cosmetic chain store.  The first product, Lip Ink has a website but I use Amazon Prime because I get free shipping.  The Jane Iredale foundation can be found at some dermatologist offices.

I have been using Lip Ink for over 12 years.  One tube lasts me a long time.  Every morning, I apply the conditioner, the lip ink, and top it with a clear gloss.  I'm good to go for about 6 hours.  Eight hours if you're not wearing glasses.  I usually reapply after eating, which is usually every two hours.  My color of choice is coral which always seems to go with everything.

If I put as much energy into exercise as I do in finding the perfect primer, I would be a very skinny lady.  Although I own many, I always go back to Dr. Brandt's.  I like it because it has a hint of color and goes on creamy as opposed to being slippery silicone based.

Did I ever tell you about the time I fell down the stairs at my Sista's house and had to fly home to Texas with a broken nose, two black eyes, and 18 staples in my head?  You can imagine the looks I got on the airplane.  And to make things worse, I cried most of the way because I was reading a sad book.

Anyway, when I got home I had to find a foundation that would hide my bruises for a few weeks.  A friend suggested a buildable powder foundation by Jane Iredale.  I found it at my dermatologist's office and have been using it for five years. It covers everything and does not look cakey.  It camouflages the scar on my upper lip and my rosacea.

Yup, I know you're shocked that I have flaws.

I've used this dynamic duo of bronzer and blush for years.  It's pricey but it lasts forever.  I've heard from critics that it compliments any skin tone.

Don't ask me to tell you the name of this blush color unless you want to see me blush.

I bought the high definition powder from Smashbox.  It was about five times the price of this one by Elf, and I did not see a difference.  By the way, the more products that I try from Elf, the more impressed I am with the line.

I am constantly trying new mascaras, but I always come back to this one.  It never clumps and does not flake.  Love the applicator, too.

Yesterday, I outlined and downloaded the photos for this post.  Today, this heated eyelash curler decided to die.  It was not expensive and lasted about a year, so I'm probably going to order another one because I really liked it.

And last but not least, I love these towelettes for taking off all the stuff I just told you to put on.  I've tried the generic brand, but they did not do the trick because they were too dry.

Have a good weekend.

What's your latest cosmetic favorite?

Until next time...

  1. I always love reading cosmetic recommendations! I'm pretty simple with my beauty routine, but am always looking for something new to try. I'm intrigued by that Lip Ink and the heated eyelash curler. Although, the heated eye lash curler makes me a little nervous, too. I wonder if my husband would let me practice on him a few times so I could get the hand of it. ;)
Have a fabulous weekend, sweet Katie!

  2. Fun! My favorite for the last 6 months has been the IT cosmetics CC cream. It has sheer coverage that isn't heavy feeling and is SPF 50. :)

  9. I use the make-up wipes and LOVE them. I have lots of cosmetic products, but honestly love anything Neutrogena, also an acquaintance used to sell Avon, there was this one lipstick that I swore by, they no longer carry so I may need to try the lip ink. Have a great weekend!

  10. OK. I found your blog through my friend, Elizabeth. La Contessa!! She was visiting you. So me, and my madras shorts from J. Crew had to saunter over here. My NEWEST makeup love is the cheapo eyeshadow/highlighter palette from BH cosmetics--it the Carli Bybel palette and it rocks. $14.50 at Ulta. Then there is my go-to for my big mouth. iT cosmetics lip vitality in "Je ne said quoi". OMG. I love it. I'm heading off to read your blog now. Come visit me at my blog: Atypical60.com!

  11. My comment got eaten by the WWW, but I'll rewrite a brief one. Thanks for all the cosmetic recommendations. I will have to try the roller lash. I love to try new mascaras, but usually return to my old standby Loreal Voluminous. I agree with Stacey that the IT CC cream is wonderful! Have a great weekend!

  16. I love trying out new makeup and am a total lipstick junky. I use the same blush that you do and always dread when it runs out. I'm too embarrassed to ask the salesperson for a new one. Who names these things? Someone who loves to see people our age squirm? I always love reading your blog. Makes me have a smile on my face every time. Have a great weekend! Kim

  20. Your fellow super models have their flaws, too, but are not generous enough to share their secrets for dealing with flaws...unless, of course, it is to push their own line of cosmetics.
