An Abundant Hodgepodge

Hello, dear friends.  My #1 tells me I talk about the weather too much, but I can't help bragging about the last few beautiful days.  This Fall has been a stunner.  You know the drill.  If it's Wednesday, it's time for Hodgepodge.

1.  Besides Thanksgiving, something you're looking forward to on your November calendar?

My best college buddy, Kate the Great, is coming for a visit this weekend and I couldn't be more excited.  I have all sorts of fun things planned - everything from drunk dialing to ding-dong-ditching.  Lucky for us, the Mister will be waiting in the wings with bail money.

2.  If I gave you a thank you card right now who would you send it to and why?

Dear Sarah,
Thank you for inventing Spanx.  At this stage of the game, I am too old to remember to hold in my tummy.
Love,
Katie

P.S. Can you work on inventing something to camouflage a double chin?

3.  Of the breads listed, which one is your favorite... bagel, cinnamon, sourdough, garlic, banana, biscuit, pita, naan, or plain old white bread?

I would choose plain old white bread so that I could pile on the butter, sugar, and cinnamon, just like I used to do at my Grandma's.

4.  What is something you have in abundance?  Is that a good thing?

Dishware.
The Mister may not agree, but I think it's a very good thing.

You never know when 60 people might drop by unexpectedly for dinner.

5.  November 5th is National Love your Red Hair Day.  Are there any redheads in your family?  Who's your favorite redhead?

My #2 was a redhead for the first week of her life.  Her hair fell out and came in light brown.  I found a way to forgive her.

My favorite redhead would have to be that devilish Prince Harry.

Maybe he could marry #2 and then I could have some royal grand redheads. With a better attitude than these three, I hope.

6.  The travel website Busbud recently calculated the most Instagrammed spot in every state.  Go here to see what made the list where you live.  Are you happy with your state's #1?  If not, what do you think should be the most photographed spot in your state?  Have you snapped a photo there?

Fenway Park is the most instagrammed spot in Massachusetts.  I am very happy with that spot because I think that it epitomizes the spirit and strength of the people of Massachusetts.  No, I've never been there because I hear there is no shopping.

7.  I'm going to try to have something related to gratitude in this spot each week during the month of November.  Here's this week's question -

What's something you've learned about yourself this year that you are grateful for?

I learned that if I could make it through last winter without losing my sanity, I can make it through anything.  I'm grateful.  Kind of.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Until next time...

  1. My #2 was also a red head at birth, but it turned a beautiful pure blonde within a few months. She's more light brown now. Also, we are soul sisters when it comes to dishes : ) You can never have too many.

I hear people shop there. Love those danged cute doggies of yours! Boy could those coats pick up the burdock out here on our farm! Have a fun weekend!

  4. Your pictures remind me of my mama. She had tons and tons of dishes. Most were antiques.

  5. I love your dishes. I tend to be drawn to purchasing purses, dishes, and fabric. My hubby thinks I have too many of all three, but I am happy!

As always, thank you for all your visits to my blog, too!

  14. Cinnamon toast is my go to comfort food when my girls were sick. I still love it too :-)

  15. Cinnamon toast is the best thing I grew up with! We would make cinnamon toast and add cooked bacon to it for a breakfast sandwich. Yummylicious! If you survive Mass winters, you are a rock star! That is one reason I moved from Kansas to Texas.

  16. Okay, I'll bite. What the heck is ding-dong-ditching? I feel certain I want to do it. xo Laura

  18. If I could collect something, it would be dishes, books, and linens. My kids will tell you that I am well on my way with the books and linens. Not quite. I am not looking forward to wintertime either, but like you, I will get through it. I think we should reward ourselves with a trip to Florida for surviving the cold with some sort of grace and our dignity in tact. Granted, my dignity may be hanging by a thread by the time it is over, but it will still be there. Hope you have a wonderful rest of the week and weekend, Sweet Lady!!

  19. I love your do in the photo with Kate the Great, you look spectacular. I think it is wonderful that you have all of those dishes from which the dogs can choose. I adore that video of Chow, his faces are priceless and adorable. He does look contrite, the girl is the sneaky one at my house and knows no shame.

  24. Oh man I am dying over the dishware photos. My mother and you would get along like crazy. She too lives by the concept that you never know when 60 folks will drop by unexpectedly for dinner. And the sugar and butter on toast! Oh man. My mom's mom used to serve that to my brother and sister and me all the time. I can still taste it. Did you ever cut a hole in the top of an orange, stuff sugar cubes inside and then suck the juice out? Bet ya did. My sibs and I used to descend upon the other grandmother for that treat. Probably went through her whole sugar bowl by the end of the visit. Oh the dentist bills ...

  25. I have not thought about that cinnamon toast with butter, sugar and plain cinnamon since I lived at home. Many many years ago. I must make it for my grandkids. AND ME!!
ok....I thought I was the major dishware HO but looks like you're in the same boat. Just this afternoon I was looking at some I used when I was first married 38 yrs ago and thought....I really should get rid of those. But I can't!!! too sentimental. I just wish I had the dishware "room" like you've got....I would stand in it forever just looking at it all!

  28. Katie,
how fun that your friend is visiting! My BF from middle, school, high school, and the rest of my life is visiting this weekend on her way home to CA. Thanks for the ideas of what to do while she's here! Maybe we'll end up in adjoining jail cells! As far as what do I have to much of, I'm afraid, everything! One look in my garage, and it tells the tale of a hoarder! I have to justify buy saying I do have a lot of fabulous stuff in there that I sadly can't let go of yet, much to my family's dismay!
    Have a great weekend!
    Rebecca
