Pearls, Glorious Pearls

As a little girl, the first "jewel" that Sista and I played with was a pop-a-pearl .  Whenever we went over to my grandmother's for the weekend, she always had plenty of them to play with.  Is anybody old enough to remember these?  Please say yes.  That's when my love affair with pearls began.  I could play with them for hours.

One of my most precious possessions is a beautiful pearl bracelet that the Mister gave me on my wedding day. I think the reason I like pearls so much is that you can wear them with anything - a formal dress which I wear so often or jeans or even sweats my uniform.  OK, I never actually wore pearls with sweats, but I could if I wanted to.

Without further adieu... my ode to pearls.

Here are some beautiful women who put pearls in history books.

Love this photo!!

Future star?

Oh Mister... our 25th is coming up in a few years....just sayin'...

The chunkier the better... that goes for my pearls and my thighs.

Lovin' these looks...

I'm in heaven... Chanel and pearls.

Sweet accessories.

The Mister would have to carry me if I got these.

And last but not least, my Tega buddy, Judy, who always looks great in her pearls.

Hope you have a jewel of a day!

  2. I thought I was the lone solider in blogland that loved pearls. I wear them quite a bit- even dressed down-but usually when I am dressed up. I had the advantage of a son that used to own a jewelry store. You wouldn't believe the mark-up even if I told you! And, YES!!!! I do remember the pop pearls. They were SO much fun! xo Diana

  3. Pearls have come a long way, baby! There are so many fun styles and colors now. And, I do remember the pop a pearls. Never knew what they were called; just remember playing with them a lot. I wonder what happened to them...

  4. Love my pearls...I am blessed to have 2 sets of real pearls...one that belonged to my Mother..I only wear them on special occasions and another set that my husband gave me 2 years ago...I wear them at least twice a week to work. They go with everything! My youngest daughter loves them also....she has set of opera length ones that she wears a lot. They make anything look classy from jeans to the little black dress.
PS..I love the Aubrey Hepburn pic

  8. I remember 'pop beads' pearls....loved them. Then, when I was in high schoolm my Grandmother gave a small, graduated string of pearls, from her wonderful jewelry box and I've worn them everyday since. That's many, many days.

Thank you for the post, it brought back wonderful memories.

    Warmly, Kathleen

  10. In a class all of their own! In fact, my 13 year old- when he was 3- loved the string of pearls I wore for my own wedding- so much- he clipped them off the string and had them all lined up across his bed while I thought he was napping :) I still need to have them re-strung!

  12. Oh the popping pearls - what a blast from the past! That little handbag is gorgeous! What I love about pearls is that they can, as you showed, go from classic to modern and they make virtually any neck look better!
