Literary Luncheon On The Cape Times Two

Hello, dear friends.  Are you ready for Labor Day Weekend?  It came way too fast for me but I am excited to see my #1 girl and Adorable Jonathon today.

This is another post covering what I did during my month away from you.  I attended two literary lunches at the Waquassett Resort on the Cape.  If you have read my blog for awhile, you may remember I attended one of these delightful lunches last summer.  I had so much fun, I definitely wanted to attend a few this summer.

The Waquassett Resort is positively breathtaking.

The ladies at the helm of these lovely luncheons are the mother and daughter team of Joanne Doggart and Caitlin Doggart-Bernal.

Joanne and Caitlin own the charming Where the Sidewalk Ends Bookstore in Chatham.  If you are lucky enough to visit Chatham, you must stop in to visit this darling store.

The first luncheon featured popular author, Richard Russo.

Mr. Russo is positively charming.
As you can tell, he is quite taken with moi.
Okay, maybe it's just me.

We received an autographed copy of his latest bestseller.  Everybody's Fool is the sequel to Nobody's Fool.  Mr. Russo won the Pulitzer Prize for Empire Falls and is the author of Straight Man,  That Old Cape Magic, and many other fabulous reads.

Both of my buddies Anne (middle) and Annie accompanied me.

Can you tell we had a great time?

It was a perfect afternoon.
An entertaining speaker, heavenly ambiance, and great friends.
Who could ask for anything more?

Cute little Annie in the parlor of the resort.

Two weeks later, I was back to that perfect spot with Anne.  Unfortunately, my buddy Annie couldn't make it.  It was the last luncheon of the season and three authors were the guests of honor.   Between you and me, I had never heard of the authors or the books, but after the readings, I was anxious to devour all three books.

The Shining Sea centers around a widow and her children.  It is filled with great love and monumental loss.  The story spans from WWII to present day.

Stuart Nadler was an absolute riot.
He kept a room full of fancy ladies in stitches.

The Inseparables is a humorous tale of three generations of women.  This one is first on my list to read.

To The Bright Edge Of The World is the story of an adventure which takes place in Alaska over the course of a year. It is the story of a husband and wife; one taking the journey and one staying home. Eowyn Ivey's first book is the very popular The Snow Child.

The best part of the luncheon was meeting these two lovely ladies, Angela and Denise.  They are lifelong friends who have summer homes on the Cape.  Lucky ladies.  This was their first literary lunch, but I have a feeling, it won't be the last.

I can hardly wait until next summer.

Have a wonderful, safe Labor Day weekend.

 Until next time...

This is how I feel when I think about attending next summer's lunches!!!

  6. Thank you for sharing this beautiful location, these literary luncheons, and telling us about these interesting books! I look forward to reading them. You inspired me to start a book club, and we are going to read books you recommend. We are currently reading Trail of Broken Wings and enjoying it immensely.
Enjoy your weekend with #1. Schools, etc. are cancelled here in Charleston today as we prepare for the tropical storm/hurricane.

  12. I'm confused. All of the speakers are dressed; not stripped down to their boxing outfits. Or was that something you didn't film, Sis?

  15. What a fun event! I need to find something like that around here. Most of the book events here are just author signings, without the fun lunch! I just saw To the Bright Edge of the World featured somewhere...maybe an Amazon book of the month? Have a fabulous Labor Day weekend.
