It's Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas... In the Sunroom

Hello, dear friends.  TGIF!  Today is the first day that I feel like my old self, which is good because the Mister and I have a big weekend planned.  I don't want him to go away with just a shadow of myself.  He might like her better.

I did very little decorating this year because I am lazy a minimalist, which is fine with me.  When you are in your early forties, such as myself, it is essential that you conserve your energy for important things like Real Housewives and Homegoods

It's very interesting when you move to a new state and your kids have already flown the coop.  Their room was never really their room.  They don't have any friends to visit, and they have no car.  So essentially, they are captives.  It works for me.

Sorry, I got off track.  The sunroom is the only room that is considered fully decorated.  The tree is done in the den, but the mantle still looks like Halloween.  One day at a time.

I bought these boxwood wreaths through Amazon and I was really impressed with the quality and the price.  I had to keep the price point down because I had quite a few windows and I didn't want the Mister to consider the wreaths one of my Christmas presents.  The best part was that they came with the ribbon and bow so the Mister we didn't have to do any measuring or cursing.

I found these pillows on Society 6.  The reds don't exactly match the rest of the room, but who cares.  All the lights are on dimmers and it's Christmas.

I bet you're pretty impressed with my decorating skills.
What can I say?  It's in the genes.

I visit a lot of blogs every day.  I come away so impressed and in awe of the talent out there.  It seems as though everyone is waaaaay ahead of me even in the paperwhite category.  Today I talked to my stubborn paperwhites and warned them "15 days, guys.  That's all we got."  Another note - totally forgot to polish the silver bowl.  Now it's too late.  I'll just dim the lights more and serve a lot of wine to the guests.

Another masterpiece.
I'm expecting a call from HGTV any day now.

All this would not be possible without the assistance and support of my humble interns.

Until next time...

  2. I love your sun room! Provence meets the South Shore. Dimmers are in my top 10 best human inventions. And wine sometimes counts as a decorating accessory! Have a wonderful weekend. Can't wait to see more holiday decorating.

  5. Ooohhhhh now I am feeling festive. Love the sunroom. Love it. And didn't even notice that the silver bowl wasn't polished. Poppy wants me to pass on that she is thoroughly jealous of the red bows being ever so festively sported by your humble interns. Thanks, Ms. Prep. Now I've got to fashion some.

  7. A self-deprecating sense of humor always tickles my funny bone.
Your home looks lovely! All the fussy Christmas decorations are for young families - been there, done that.
Glad that you are feeling much better. Have an enjoyable weekend.

  10. So pretty! I love the wreaths, going to have to look for those next year. Have you heard about the vodka "trick" for paperwhites? 1:7 ratio of vodka to water to make them straight. I just heard about it this year and it really works!

    1. Thanks for the tip, Gina. How much of the vodka do I drink?

  11. You're a wonderful decorator and I've been wanting buffalo checks in my own home. Our old house in Chicago had a front sunroom and back sunroom, both full of glorious windows and beadboard (had to leave to escape the gang-stahs). I love your ceiling too!

  14. I love everything...but your interns are the star of the Show! I love puppies! But your humor always makes me smile...in such a serious world! Remember to spray your boxwood with water once a month if it is real/preserved. I was told to do that to keep mine from turning brown. I know, who knew? Sheila

  16. Have I told you how much I lovelovelove your sun roon? My favorite part is the red and white buffalo check fabric and the windows. I could move in, and you can finish raising me if you would like. The sun room can be my room. So glad you did not have to cop to swearing and getting frustrated to get your decorating done, and I hope you get that call from HGTV soon. I know they would just love to have the opportunity to learn from you. Merry Christmas, Love!! Hope you and the Mister have a fabulous weekend.

  17. You are so funny Katie;) ..keep the kids captive when you can! Everything looks so festive Katie. I have a few of those wreaths too and need to find a place for them this year. With a family wedding the first of December, I'm way behind on my decorating. Today I'll be finishing up and hopefully be able to share some pics. Have a fun weekend ahead! xxL

your sunroom is perfect l love the red buffalo checks, just right for the Holidays! You've got 2 of my favorite pillows from Society 6! Love her pillows and her blog. I'm trying to resist buying her stag pillow but probably won't be able to for much longer! Glad you're back to your "normal" self, have a great weekend!

  25. I love what you've done in your sunroom, Katie. About those paperwhites...I have some in our Christmas centerpiece that are blooming too soon, and I have some that I'm giving friends that won't be mature enough. It's a tricky thing to schedule ;)

  27. Your sunroom look beautiful and I love the wreaths...can't believe they came ready to hang... that was definitely a present for Mister! If your paperwhites don't start growing soon, put them in a dark room overnight and they'll be party ready in no time! So glad you are feeling better - now put your feet up and relax!

  28. Just found your blog and you are delightful! I love your holiday sunroom! So cheery - We are renovating our house and live in a tiny apartment - can't wait to decorate next year. Merry Christmas!

  29. That sunroom makes me happy! In the winter time we need all the light we can get. So pretty. I love the wreaths in the windows. Have a great week. Give the interns a cookie from me.

  30. This is fabulous, Katie -- exactly what I would want if I didn't have so much crap -- I mean decorations -- and it came down from the attic and I don't want to carry it back up there...

Truly, just perfect. Exactly where I'd like to read a book and hear Wayne Newton crooning a few carols. Mulled wine served by the mister too, of course! Xxoo

  31. My papewhites need a growth spurt soon also. Let's blame the bulb growers! As for the amaryllis, they will hopefully bloom by Easter Sunday. The interns are very well decorated. Just move them around to the rooms that are not completed and voila!! Perhaps they could wear some boxwood crowns on their heads along with their bows. annie_g.

  32. Love your sunroom and the red fabric gives the room an immediate Christmas decorating boost right from the start! The wreaths were a good find and I adore those cute pillows!! Your interns are adorable! Look forward to your NYC post!!

  33. Love those wreaths! I got a lone boxwood wreath at the local garden center for one hundred million dollars. You bet your a$$ there would have been cursing if I bought that many!

I grow my paperwhites in seaglass! I invented, er, stole the idea. It looks tres coastal.
