My Word, Weird Food, & Static Cling

Hello dear friends.  I hope that your week is going smoother than mine.  I have been beating my head against the wall trying to come up with a "word" for 2019.  Many bloggers have written posts explaining their chosen words and their personal meaning. I've seen the words evolve, inspire, aspirenurture, and strength, to name a few.

The word Indulge is out because I used it three years ago.  Two years ago my word was binge and I was fairly successful with that one. Last year I chose a hyphenated word which I would imagine would get more points.  I chose the words bargain-hunt. I hit that one out of the park.

This year, I am going to choose the one word that is most needed in my life and will help me in my personal and spiritual growth.
Drum roll, please.
My Word of 2019 is:
Pamper.

*****

Today, I am linking up with my good friend Terry for the Wednesday Medley.  Stop over and read other bloggers' answers to Terry's thoughtful questions.

1. It may be a little shocking, but National Static Electricity Day is January 9.  Do you often get shocked often when you touch metal?

Natural Mamas

I get shocked every once in a while.  Static Cling, however, is my most annoying adversary.

Static cling seems to appear at the most inopportune moments in my life. After graduating from Katie Gibbs with no honors I landed an interview for my dream job with a big publishing house in NYC.  As I was called into the handsome VP's office donned in my sensible pumps and royal blue dress, I realized that my nylon frock was climbing up my legs at an alarming speed. My sensible dress was turning into a micro-mini in a matter of milliseconds.  I tried to slide in sideways with confidence as I did my best to un-cling my dress while shaking Mr. Handsome's hand.  I thought I pulled it off until he began the interview with "You make quite an entrance, young lady" and it went downhill from there.

It's no wonder that I break out into a cold sweat when a Static Guard commercial pops across my TV screen.

2. There are actually two National days worth of mention.  It is also National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.  Our men and women working in many areas of law enforcement put their lives on the line for us daily.  Do you know someone working in law enforcement who you can thank today?

I don't know any law enforcement officers personally, however, I have met a few in my travels.

3.  At our house right now, it is all about football.  Joe's Philadelphia Eagles barely won their game on Sunday to move forward in the playoffs and another chance to play in the Super Bowl this year.  Do you have a favorite team in the playoffs or does football make you yawn?  Is there a Super Bowl party in your future, no matter what teams are playing?

Pinterest

When you move to Massachusetts, you have to root for the Patriots.  It's the law.  This picture was taken of Sista and me last year showing a little team spirit.

4. Speaking of parties, there is always lots of food at parties I attend.  Tell us a weird food combination that you really enjoy(ed).

I could not think of an answer to this one so I went to my source of priceless information for virtually anything in life, Buzzfeed.

A couple of items mentioned I have not only tasted but enjoyed tremendously.

The Reluctant Entertainer

For instance, I have served fresh strawberries, sour cream, and brown sugar at a couple of luncheons that I hosted.

As a matter of fact, it's the only dessert I know how to make.
Sorry if I'm bragging.

The other one mentioned was a specialty of my Grandma Margaret's.  It is butter and sugar on bread and it is positively delish!
Unfortunately, I never got the recipe.

The next two odd recipes I would never try.

Weird News

I consider melted chocolate and cheese pizza two of the most perfect foods known to man or woman.
They should never be combined.

Weird News

The thought of dunking the almighty Oreo in orange juice makes my teeth itch.
No thank you!

And last, but not least one combo that I have not tried yet.

Yes, please!!

5. Since we are on games and parties, what game have you spent the most hours playing?

We are not big game players in our family.  It may have something to do with the PTSD that the Mister and I suffer from as a result of playing Candyland with the girls.  Unfortunately, our girls were afflicted with what's known as SLS otherwise known as Sore Loser Syndrome.

We did play one game over Christmas.
This game should come with a warning label:
Do not play in mixed company or with prospective in-laws.

6.  Tell us something random about your week so far.

Look at this happy face!
Shocker:  Chili is having out-patient surgery next week!
She has a growth on her back.
I'll spare you the gory details.
But I'll tell you the word of the day.
Cha-ching!

Until next time...

  1. We only play Cards Against Humanity with our college friends : ) Your word is a good one. In my opinion the M.O.B. needs a whole lot of pampering! Is there a date? Ours is coming up fast now and I'm excited. I saw your comment on my blog about our girls shared name. Does yours have a big personality? I feel like all the M's I've met do : )

  4. My girls renamed Cards Against Humanity after we all played a few Christmas Days ago. It is now known as, Sorry, Mom around here. LOL We played, What Do You Meme? this year and that was fun with my dad, stepmother, and 90 year old aunt in the room. We did pretty good at keeping our voices down on the bad words and trading in cards even I wouldn't speak out loud. LOL My word choice for this year is, STAND. I haven't written about it but might get around to doing that by next year. Ha!

  6. Pamper! And you’ll deserve every pampered second! I laughed so hard at this post! Have you ever got shocked when you kissed you Mr.? Mr. Nine and I have been in situations where if the static cling is prominent that we will kiss each other and get shocked! We’re electric, ha ha!

  7. Love the SLS!
I’m a Texas and have been a Cowboy fan for decades. However, we lived in STL for three years and one of my boys is an avid Rams fan. Should be an interesting game on Saturday.
    Fun post as always.

  8. Great post. I hope your dog gets through the surgery ok. That's a good word to choose. I need to do more of that. As for pizza and chocolate together? Never! lol And yep I've never played Cards against Humanity but I know enough that when our kids were discussing which games to bring to our family Christmas get together I told them to leave that one at home!

  9. My Grandma McDonald gave us bread with butter and sugar too! Seems such a crazy thing and can you imagine the healthy living parents of today being ok with that?

  10. This post gave me an all out belly laugh :)
My word of the year is GIVE. This is a new concept for me. We will see how it turns out...

  11. I have heard that a few people who purchased that game were shocked. ( So it goes along with the first question). I had never heard of that game until you shared it the other day and several VLOGGERS I watch mentioned their spouses purchased it not knowing it was "filthy" as she put it.lol She also said her husband orders Christmas Gifts from Amazon and does not even open them just wraps the Amazon box. I had to laugh at that one...men have their little quirks.

  13. So, one of your revelations has given me goosebumps, Sis. My maternal grandmother used to dish up brown sugar and butter sandwiches to me and my sibs on a regular basis. Our dentist adored us.

  14. Totally embarrassing game that Cards Against Humanity! Had us laughing so hard our stomachs hurt but sooo nasty! HA! Was the body paint hard to remove??!?!? :-)
    Have a great day!

  15. Great post, Katie! I shock myself constantly -doorknobs, fridge handle, microwave. I think it's my slippers. Haven't played Cards Against Humanity, but I've heard some funny things about it. Hope all goes well for your pup. -Jenn

  16. Love your word for the year and I'd say any MOTB deserves pampering for sure. It's hard work! Always get a good chuckle when I stop by.

  17. I must say that I love your word of the year....I might need to se it, too!
LOL you wear body paint well!

BTW Nutella in hot milk makes the very best hot chocolate!

    Happy New Year!

  21. Aww, poor Chili, hope he does well with his surgery. Good luck with your word of the year. Please take notes, and if it works, I'd buy that e-book. ;)

  22. Your Nutella on potato chips reminded me that the hometown Mike Sell's potato chips that I grew up eating joined forces with a local candy company in Dayton, Ohio called Esther Price. Several years back they started selling boxed chocolate covered potato chips....oh so yummy! I enjoyed your answers!

  23. I decided to bag the word this time. I didn't want the responsibility. Go big with the pampering!

Oh, sending extra big puppy love to Chili. I always hate it when the furballs are hurting. Here's hoping all goes well, the prognosis is excellent and he's back to being Mr. Adorable (not to be confused with Adorable Jonathan) very shortly!

  24. Great post - as usual! Yum - chocolate covered potato chips -- love those! A friend just sent me a video about a pickle sandwich - instead of bread, you use big pickles. Looked "interesting" and am not going to try it! Have a great weekend!

  25. I can't think of a more apt word for a "Queen M O B"! Oh my, those food combinations! My favorite breakfast as a child was bread slice(s) covered with butter and a mixture of sugar and cinnamon sprinkled on top then toasted. It then needed to be dipped into Mom's homemade hot chocolate milk. This is a mouth-watering moment!

  26. Hugs for sweet Chili!! I giggled my way through your answers and thank you for joining the Medley yesterday! My apologies for being so late getting here!!

  28. Poor Chili,

His name brings back a memory. This Texan (yes me) moved to Pennsylvania for a couple of years. I was in the supermarket searching for a can of chili...for out chili dogs. I ask the stocker where I could find a can. He looked at me very puzzled and ask what I meant by that? I think I left in tears....it made me even more homesick than I was....

  29. Love your word of the year! Your Grandma Margaret's bread and butter with sugar is even better when you put it under the broiler for a little bit to let the sugar caramelize. So good!

  32. Pamper is certainly a good word for the MOB, but I'm betting the bride may be using that same word! I hope sweet Chili is better quickly!!

  33. We’ll be cheering along with Joe this Sunday as our magic Eagles face the Saints! Go Eagles! Another potentially embarrassing game for a group is the Voting Game. Check it out!

  34. National static electricity day is truly a day to commemorate (love your story by the way) - we all love sliding out of cars and crackling away. Word of the year - pamper - a great choice! The pizza photo was pretty foul. Here one of the culinary delights of Scotland turns my stomach - not haggis but when you see signs at chip shops for battered pizza. They may as well ask 'gall stones with your chips madam?

  35. What a great word of the year. I hope it is a year of pampering and pampering others. Chips in Nutella would be amazing. I may have to try chocolate pizza. It sounds good.

  36. My theme for the year is Streamline & Simply BUT is it too late to commandeer yours - Pamper? I love a stretch goal.

We tried playing Cards Against Humanity with our (adult) nieces. We thought it would be a little racy, like Taboo. We were horrified to find it more potty-humorist. Like the Queen of England, I was not amused.

    xo
