Hello, dear friends. I hope that you are enjoying your week. It looks like our first snowfall of the season is on its way to Massachusetts this weekend.
Yesterday, I met my good friend Jill for a lovely lunch in Plymouth. Yeah, that Plymouth - the one with the Rock. It was too darn cold to venture out for a sightseeing trip.
Today, I am linking up with my friend Terri for Wednesday Medley. She writes the questions and bloggers answer them.
Wednesday, January 16th is National Do Nothing Day. National Do Nothing Day was proposed in 1972 by columnist Harold Pullman Coffin. This day has been observed annually since 1973. Of course, the way to celebrate is to do nothing.
1. To commemorate Do Nothing Day in SOME way, tell us something about your life (or the life of someone close to you) in 1973.
In 1973, I was a chunky teenager rocking a burnt tangerine colored shag compliments of Sun-In.
Most weekends were taken up with waiting for the phone to ring from a prospective suitor.
In other words, most weekends I did nothing.
Look at that shag - are you surprised?
2. Now that we're thinking back, please tell us what your favorite pastime was as a child.
It hasn't changed much.
3. What is the best way to cheer you up on a bad day?
Besides spending time with our girls, a fancy lunch and an uplifting movie is the perfect recipe for boosting my spirits on a cold, grey Winter's day.
4. How old were you when you first started dating?
Do you remember your first date?
I was about 14 when I had my first date with a lucky young man named John. Don't worry ladies, it was not Dirty John.
We went to the movie They Shoot Horses, Don't They?.
After that date, I experienced a bit of a dry spell.
It lasted for about ten years.
Remember the shag?
5. Today is National Fig Newton Day.
Do you like figs/Fig Newtons?
These days, my life revolves around WW points.
If I had the choice between a couple of Fig Newtons for 5 points
or
a glass of wine,
I would choose the vino.
6. Tell us something random about your week.
It wouldn't be a fun week without a Vet appointment.
I crossed that one off the list on Monday.
This week holds a root touch up, Supper With the Authors, a trip to the Design Center, and catching up on my new book.
Until next time...
What's Chili been up to now? Poor girl! Love that photo with the shag. You're so cute! And how many points do you get in total on WW? My worst time is evening. I was fine last night until Mr.C brought in the peanuts. :-(
ReplyDeleteOh dear. I think I had the same haircut. Good luck with the WW. I think it's the best diet around. It's improved some (emphasis on "some") of my eating habits. I need to get back on the WW wagon for real soon!
ReplyDeleteHope the pups are getting along just fine! Exactly my idea of a grand time as well, a fancy lunch, an uplifting movie or a savory book! All of the above in one day is really Livin large!
ReplyDeleteI had a shag as well but mine was brunette. It went better with the acne.lol And our tv viewing tastes were much the same. Oh that Bobby Sherman in Here Come the Brides. Now I find Jason the best looking of the Bolt Brothers. I also have several seasons of MTM on dvd. I loved her long flip hair do...I was so sad to find out it was a fall.
ReplyDeleteuh-oh....do I hear "sheddin' for the weddin'" when you speak of WW????
ReplyDeleteHoping your Chili girl is doing better....I'm right there with you on the visits to Vet...we call sophiejane the million dollar dog!!! and what's so funny? my boyfriend began his career as a large animal Veterinarian.....and has he EVER doctored my animals??? No ma'am. First words outa his mouth are .... Take her to the Vet!!!
My shag looked like your shag, complete with Sun In! My first date was also at age 14 only we went to the local Beerfest on a Saturday night. What were my parents thinking?!?!? I guess being from Ohio in the 70's that was the big deal :)
ReplyDeleteWow! I had no idea fig newtons were that many points - WOWSA! I love all the same shows Katie!! Mary Tyler Moore was such a favorite...back when TV was soooo good!
ReplyDeleteSo, how is it that Oklahoma has had more snow this season than MA? Wow. And, we have 6 degree temps coming Friday night. Am I excited? NO! I wish I could celebrate the day doing nothing, but then nothing would get done. I cannot not do something. Your day of kids, lunch, and a movie sounds divine though!! I may schedule one of those soon. Hope you enjoy the rest of the week and do not get buried in too much snow.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI am going to have to go see that movie. I just watched the trailer. :-) We are to get very cold this weekend. So I think it a very good idea to sit back and enjoy a movie.
I absolutely LOVE fig newtons. They're one of my favorites! You are rockin' that shag! But honestly sun-in is from Satan....How many people can we name who ruined their hair color with that crap?

Oh teenage hair. Oh, oh, oh, teenage hair. I rocked a spiral perm!!!! -Jenn
ReplyDeleteHow did I, an Olympic medalist in doing nothing, not know about National Do Nothing Day?! xo
ReplyDeleteKatie you’re so adorable. I just love reading your stuff, especially loved that beautiful smile and cute shag. I think I had one of those at my 6th grade graduation now that I think of it. I like yours better. :)
ReplyDeleteLoved this, a blast from your past! I want to see The Upside, the trailers make me laugh, it just looks like it would be a great movie.
ReplyDeleteWe thoroughly enjoyed The Upside and left wanting to do something good for someone else. I also wished to be able to laugh at things that do not normally make me laugh. Thanks for another fun Wednesday post. You never fail to make me smile inside whether I laugh on the outside or not.
ReplyDeleteOh the shag! Yours turned out a lot better than mine. I made that mistake in 1973 and with naturally curly hair and a boy that lived on my street told me I looked like a poodle. I was devastated. It couldn't grow fast enough.
ReplyDeleteI loved all the same shows..they are better memories.
Have a great day!
I am late visiting but sure enjoyed your answers!! Thanks for joining the Medley yesterday! Didn't we all have that ugly orange from Sun In? And it took forever to grow out. Yuck!! Good memories though!!
ReplyDeleteThe shag and Sun-In. Been there, done that.
ReplyDeleteCancel your weekend plans and stay safely inside.
I always love these. The shag doesn't look so bad on you as you think it does -- consider the time period! Keep cozy!
ReplyDeleteThis blog is right up my alley. Yes, I’m guilty of the shag haircut, always had Fig Newtons in the house, loved the same TV shows, my first date was the movie MASH (at the Drive-In!!), and of course I rocked Sun In !! Thanks for the memories!!
ReplyDeleteOh how I remember rocking the shag and I also remember the movie “They Shoot Horses Don’t They”?January is always diet time and it is horrible after the holiday feasting. Have a warm and cozy weekend!
ReplyDeleteWine vs fig newtons, no comparison, vino every time! It's painful to look back on teenage years, and yes, Sun-in was a must! I hope you can stay in this winter weekend with lots of cozy reads!
ReplyDeleteJenna

Oh the old shags! I still think I could rock it if I could find a hairdresser old enough to remember it. The Upside is a wonderful movie. Thanks to your recent review we went and enjoyed it from start to finish.
