The Friday Files Is Back

Hello, dear friends.  First of all, I want to tell my friends and family who are in the path of Florence that they are in my thoughts and prayers.  Also, closer to home, I am thinking of all the people who lost their homes which were destroyed by gas explosions and fires in the Merrimack Valley.  The authorities have yet to announce the cause, which is kind of scary.

On a lighter note, I spent a delightful afternoon with my cousin, Louise and our friend, Doris yesterday.

I served a salad made with rotisserie chicken (my fave), quiche florentine, and banana bread.  Strawberry shortcake was for dessert.

I haven't heard that anyone got food poisoning yet, so that's always a good sign.

By the way, I got that pretty bowl from Sista.
I can't remember if she gave it to me or I stole it from her.

Are you looking for a house in the Hamptons?
Now that the season is coming to a close, you'll probably be able to get a great deal.

Did I mention the fact that Beyonce and Jay Z rented this one?
I bet that's music to your ears.

I'm a big fan of wallpaper and I'm delighted that it is coming back in style.  Here is an article featuring beautiful rooms adorned by wallpaper.

Our house does not have a mudroom and I miss it.  Here are some pretty pictures of mudrooms that are both pleasing to the eye as well as functional.

Are you thinking about a kitchen redo?
If you are considering a farmhouse sink, you are going to love these photos.

My Mom was no whiz in the kitchen, but she made a mean lemon-pepper chicken dish.  This 20-minute recipe reminded me of her.

Is it a brownie?
Is it a cookie?
Whatever it is, it looks yummy!
The one-bowl recipe can be found here.

Do you have an opinion on people who recline their seat on an airplane?  Personally, I am not a recliner because I can't sleep on a plane.  Here's an article on the etiquette of reclining your seat.

Here's an interesting article on the advantages of a four-day work week.  Feel free to show it to your boss.

I admit it.  I'm a sucker for an article on life hacks.  Did you know that you can unclog a toilet without a plunger?  Or here's an idea for hiding your money in plain sight.  Find out about a lot more life hacks here.

FYI... Ulta has their 21 Days of Beauty promotion going on right now.  Every day five full-price items are marked down by fifty percent.  Don't tell the Mister, but I made a killing.
He won't mind because I'll be so gorgeous!

Last, but certainly not least, one of my favorite bloggers, Nora Murphy, released her new book this week.  I ordered one for myself and one for a very stylish friend of mine who is celebrating a birthday.

Until next time...

  1. I am happy to see the Friday Files are back! I am loving all the inspiration...those mudrooms are gorgeous! Our laundry doubles as our mudroom and is so small. Why don't builders realize we spend half our day in there? Those brownie things look amazing too. I ordered the Nora Murphy book too...should be here any time now! Enjoy your weekend!

  2. I didn't know hoe much I missed the Friday Files. I can't wait until tomorrow when my Nora Murphy book should be here. I have long been a fan of Tessa at Nine and Sixteen's home which is featured in it.
I swore off wallpaper after we moved into our current home and I scraped baby blue and pink wallpaper from most rooms, but I am telling you that some of the walls I am seeing today are weakening me. I am seriously thinking about starting with a bathroom. The hubby will die when I mention it:)

  3. Welcome back Friday files! Just forwarded to myself (I’m sure there’s a better way but there are no nieces here to guide me) to read on laptop later when I can open all the links. And it just so happens I am in the market for a house in the Hamptons!.I’ll let my Mister know you say it’s a good time to buy! ;-)

  6. I did hear of those gas explosions, rather concerning that there is no explanation for it yet. I like Wallpaper but I have too many nightmares of taking it down to really embrace it in my home. I will enjoy it in other's houses. Those cookies look yummy!!

  7. I really like the Haver-something back entry. Looks like something I would especially have liked when the kids were all still at home. Now I want to move from this big farmhouse to a tiny bungalow. Have a great weekend.

  11. Thanks for everything. I can't say hoe much I love the posts. And thank you for not reviewing any books because I usually go straight over to Amazon and order a few!

  12. Well, this was full of fun stuff that I'll go through leisurely. My husband has an answer to anyone who attempts to recline in front of him on a plane. He simply juts his long-legged knees right into their kidneys. I ordered Nora's book too, and I know it'll end sooner than I want it to. All that food is making me hungry - they all look and sound great, esp your salad! And I bet they won't say it, but the explosions are likely a result of cutbacks in operations & maintenance budget work on very, very old gas lines. I used to work for that very gas company (didn't realize it was their pipeline until I googled the headline). Shameful what companies will do just to impress Wall St investors on a continuous basis.

  14. The situation in Lawrence, Andover and N. Andover is a nightmare. I suppose it's why an elderly friend has always refused to live in a house with gas.
On a brighter note, the salad and chocolate cookies look delish!

  17. I hope the rain doesn't swing northward into New England -- you can never tell with these darned hurricanes. Yummy looking salad. My cottage mudroom is probably next summer's project. I was thinking this year till we got derailed with the windows. Thanks for the links and good ideas!

I don't know, but between them and your salad you've got me hungry! I adore the names Louise and Doris.
