Happy Anniversary, Princess Grace

Good morning, dear friends.  I spent a fabulous weekend in beautiful Newport yesterday.  I can't wait to tell you all about it.

Princess Grace and Prince Rainier would have been married 60 years this week.  In honor of this royal occasion, I put together these photos.

Until next time...

Preppy Empty Nester

I'm Katie. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I am an empty nester meandering through my middle-aged years while entangled in the never-ending process of renovating an antique home on the South Shore of Massachusetts. I love to write about books, movies, TV, celebrities, decorating, and weekend adventures. My favorite writing material is derived from my family: the Mister, my girls, #1 and #2, and my two untrainable, rambunctious pups, Chowdah and Chili.

  1. She was so lovely! They made a beautiful couple! Happy Wednesday!

  2. Your 60th anniversary tribute to Princess Grace is wonderful! Hope you have a great day!

  3. She has always been one of my style icons. Along with Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy, Catherine Deneuve, always classic and gracious women.

  4. She could be your sister! I've always wanted to wear my hair like hers (and yours) but I have this thing I'm trying to hide, namely my face. Princess Grace was so elegant and it's hard to believe how tragically her life ended. Thanks for the pretty photos. I'm going to throw on my pearls in her honor today.

  5. What a fabulous collection of photos! She's one of those rare film stars of that era who look today as though they could walk down the street and be completely contemporary -- the hair is right, the make-up is right, the look is right. Even the clothes are right. Timeless -- so few classic actresses in their key years looked timeless, but of an era. Not Grace.

On another note, I don't have your email to send a blog comment reply so I just wanted to take a second to tell you how much I appreciate your visits to The Maremelade Gypsy and your kind comments. I leave the screen with a smile on my face! Thank you!

  6. ...being of "a certain age", I remember well when the movie star became a Princess.
It was such a magical time...I loved her in movies and then as a beautiful princess.
I enjoyed seeing these photos and am sad thinking of her early death.

  7. Such a beautiful woman....sad how her life ended. I remember I was at my momma's house visiting when the announcement came about her accident/death. I bought a book off Kindle about her life but it was not very good.

THanks for sharing this beautiful tribute.

  8. She really was beautiful! Great collection of photos. I can't wait to hear about Newport!

  9. What a beauty, so graceful and elegant in every way.

  10. I miss the elegance and grace from this bygone era..she was the epitome of understated elegance....and now we are stuck with The Kardashians? NO THANKS. Take me back 50 years please:)

  11. Hello my dear Katie
I hope you are well.. Wasn't Princess Grace the most beautiful, exquisite person she had an ethereal internal beauty. A grace that shone from within her.
Like you, when I have visited Monaco I could feel her presence all around me. This is among the reasons why Monaco is also my most favourite place, and it is lovely to share this with you.
I loved your pictures and holiday memories on Monday, I felt like I was there again.
    Love to you, Sally xx

  12. Beautiful post and tribute. Princess Grace was one of the most gracious and classic women of our time. Thanks for sharing these photos. Love the last one with her dog.
A weekend in Newport! ~ You live a charmed life. '-)

  13. So pretty. I loved my time in Monacco looking and walking. Lovely little place. Sheila

  14. Princess Grace - so naturally beautiful & elegant. And her figure was perfect - how tiny was her waist?? Gone too soon.
    Have an enjoyable week.

  15. Beauty outside and in. A rarity in any age.

  16. I love your blog because your posts are so classy & tasteful (just like Princess Grace). Thanks for being a breath of fresh air & an inspiration to me.

  17. She was an icon of style and grace, wasn't she? Monaco was lucky to have her.
    C + C

  18. Beautiful pictures! She was a lovely classic beauty for sure. Have a wonderful weekend.

  19. It is so sad that both Grace and Diana died in car crashes. Both seem like bad plot twists from terrible movies...
