nyc take two

Hello, dear friends.  It is a soggy Sunday here in Massachusetts.  Our little Chili is going to get her hair done again.  She didn't do too well a couple of weeks ago.  Her groomer told me that she had to stop cutting her hair because it became dangerous for both of them.

I don't believe for one minute that my sweet baby is some kind of temperamental diva!

This is Part 2 of our December weekend in NYC.  If you missed Part 1, you could find it here

The Mister and I were up bright and early on Saturday morning.  We enjoyed a nutritious breakfast at the hotel and decided to walk to Bryant Park.

Another missed opportunity to show off my skating talents.

We were early for the Holiday Market, so we just walked around and I scouted out the little shops that looked interesting for later.

There was no way I could pass up this guy.  Have you ever had a chimney cake?  I had never heard of it before and after having a bite, I will never forget it.  It is a slice of heaven especially with peanut butter and a schmear of Nutella.   Then again, I could eat a real chimney if it was doused in PB&N!

More pretty holiday windows.

We walked by Harry Winston and Tiffany in order for the Mister to have plenty of opportunity to do some Christmas shopping for his trophy wife.  Unfortunately for Moi, he did not take advantage of his good fortune.

The Mister made reservations at Fig & Olive, a Mediterranean restaurant.  The ambiance, food, and service were outstanding.  We sat next to some very nice people that were off to An American In Paris after lunch.

I chose Sylvia for our Broadway experience.  There are a couple of reasons why I chose this play.  The first one being that it stars Matthew Broderick.  The second was the plot centers around a couple of empty nesters and a dog.  Hmmm... kind of sounded familiar.  In any case, my choice was a good one.  The Mister and I both loved it.  Maybe because we could identify with the circumstances.  Unfortunately, it closed this month.

Now a word about tickets. This is the first time that we got half-price tickets.  We went through TKTS, which enabled us to choose our seats and pick up the tickets at the box office.  We ended up in the fourth row center.  Perfect.  We will never pay full price again.  Unless it's for Hamilton

After the play, we stopped at the 21 Club for a glass of wine.  Great bar and fabulous people watching.  No star sightings, though.

That evening, we met a friend for dinner at the Ilili Restaurant.  This is a very busy restaurant.  It's also pretty loud.  If you want really great Lebanese food, this is the place for you.  Make a reservation in advance, though.  I had the best darn steak tartare I've ever had.

I end with a small world story.  While we were at dinner, a lovely lady came up to me and said, "I hope you don't think that we are stalking you."  It was the woman that sat next to us at lunch!  They were dining with friends, as well.  What a wonderful group of people!  They hail from Canada, and the Mister chatted it up with them about the years that he spent living in Halifax.  Of all the NYC restaurants, what are the chances of winding up at the same restaurant!  It made our day!

Until next time...

  5. I agree with you about the puppy. She must have been scared to death. My advice would be to find another groomer. Pics of NYC are divine, especially Bergdorf's window pic. Big hug !!

  6. I love your NYC pictures. So festive. Also, we had a very temperamental shih tzu who, at the end of her life, had to be sedated to be groomed. Good things our feisty dogs are so darn cute!

  7. Ok, I've recovered. I have to say I'm thoroughly jealous of your NYC trip. Two years ago I planned a lovely reading week special rendezvous there with my two. We had all sorts of lovely tickets booked and wonderful plans. I made it as far as Toronto. Couldn't go any further as the entire eastern seaboard snowed in. No flights. We had 4 days in Toronto. Fun. But NOT the same.
Do hope today that Chili lived up to the cool interpretation of her name rather than the spicy one ...

  14. I love taking the train! Last time we stopped at Eately and spent $4,367,995 on snacks for the ride home.

Your trip looked fab! I haven't been to 21 since I was a teenager in the olden days. It looks the same.

  16. Ok, have gotta go to NYC at Christmas. Guess I'd better get to finding someone to go along with me since Hubby says he won't go. Ugh! Poor Chili, hope he survived his haircut.

  17. Bryant Park might be my favorite little corner of NYC. I love the Bryant Park Grill too. And I love a small world story. I feel like in spite of it's size, this sort of thing happens often in the Big Apple. So fun!

  20. Husband and I went to NYC in November and saw Sylvia. I thought it was very good. I even got to talk to Matthew B. afterwards and I had him sign my playbill! Met the other actors too as I was the ONLY person that waited for them at the stage door afterwards. Looks like you had a great time!

  21. What a fabulous December weekend! Always enjoy your travel posts and your husband seems like such a good sport about everything.....he even likes to shop! The east coast is really having a warm winter! It sounds like the east deserves a break after the awful, never ending winter last year?! Hamilton sure is the ticket to get, isn't it!? I saw a segment about it on 60 Minutes the other night and it sounds phenomenal! Have a great week!
