Hello dear friends! I hope that you are enjoying your weekend. I am so excited about William and Kate's new baby girl. I hope she looks just like her pretty Mama.
Friday, I spent a positively delightful afternoon with some lovely ladies. Anne, my new bff, was kind enough to invite me to her needlepoint group.
The gorgeous waterfront home, where the luncheon took place, looked like a movie set from a Nora Ephron film. Sharon, the hostess, greeted me warmly at the door. There were about fourteen there, ages 45 to 95, and everyone was very sweet and welcoming to me.

We had the most delicious lunch. Sharon served a Wild Rice and Chicken Salad with Tarragon and Broccoli Cole Slaw. You can find the recipes here and here. Along with the delectable salads, she served a yummy quiche, juicy red grapes and warm rolls. I could have had three helpings, but I wanted to make a good impression on my new friends. Sharon topped off the fabulous lunch with scrumptious cookies for dessert. I wasn't quite so disciplined with those.
After lunch, we gathered around in the den that had a positively breathtaking water view. The ladies all brought out their needlepoint. I can tell that my new friends have been needling for quite awhile by the looks of their projects. One lady was working on a belt that would put Smathers and Branson to shame. My little Lilly dress looked like it came packaged with a book "Needlepoint for Morons." But no one seemed to notice. We chatted about everything from books to art exhibits.

If you've been reading my blog for awhile, you know I am a sucker for a good love story. Have you read this item in the news? This lady, Barbara, was running in the Boston Marathon. Before the race began, her daughter dared her Mom to run up to a handsome stranger in Wellesley and plant a big ol' fat kiss on him. There is a longtime marathon tradition that involves men stealing kisses from women along the Wellesley route. Well, now Barbara, a divorcee, evidently enjoyed the smooch and is looking for her prince in a baseball hat. She'd like to see him again, that is, if he's not married. And if he is attached, he's probably walking around with a black eye. Wouldn't it make a great tale if they ended up together?
I told you I was a sucker for a great love story.

Hi Katie, Your needlepoint club sounds like such fun & the lunch heavenly. Never been one to needlepoint, but I think I tried my hand at it when I was 7 or 8. I hope Barbara finds her Prince Charming. I am excited about the new Royal baby....I am sure she is just precious!! Your post yesterday had me in stitches...hands, shoulders, knees & toes, knees & toes!! I remember it well!! Got together with a bunch of friends last night for an art walk in their town...lots of fun. Trying to get the same group together for a country fair event in Rhinebeck early in June. ReplyDeleteDid anyone see how lovely Kate looked when she left the hospital LATER IN THE DAY after delivering the baby in the morning? I don't think that I looked that good a month after delivering any of my kids!

ReplyDeleteNew BFF......I have been needling for forty years.....and if it's a view of the water that sways you, I will fill a tub out in the yard and throw in a glass of wine. REALLY!!! Sounds like a blast Katie. So excited these ladies can get to know the girl we have loved for a long time. R
