My New Crush

Good morning, dear friends.  I am still maneuvering my way through the Christmas boxes.  Nothing seems to be getting done.  I can't understand why.  I open a box, inspect it like a TSA agent, never take anything out, and then open another box.  I think I am expecting a Christmas genie to make and appearance and do it for me.  I am thinking of giving this Christmas a title.  Tell me what you think of this.  This year will be the year of laziness simplicity.

Every morning,  instead of wasting my time and energy exercising,  I faithfully check in on my blog buddies to see if they have posted any entries. The blog world is an interesting one. Even though I have had the privilege of meeting some of my fellow bloggers in person, there are a great many that I haven't.  Either way, I feel like I know these bloggers' families, homes, likes and dislikes.  There is always something new to discover about these giving writers.  This is my safety zone.

And yet my eye wanders.  I am always looking for the next blogger to add to my little bff blogger arsenal.  I found my new virtual buddy on Thursday.  She just doesn't know it yet.

I found her through one of my Real Housewives friends.  Ok she's not really my friend but in my mind she is.  I am embarrassed to admit to follow Yolanda Hadid Foster and every other crazy Real Housewife that will have me on Instagram.  Yolanda is one of my favorites because we are mirror images of each other.  Not a lot of people see it as I do, but I chalk it up to jealousy.

On to my new blog crush.  Her name is Ellie O'Connell Decret.  Even her name is cute.  In her past life she was an interior designer.  She is a beautiful American lady who is living in Paris. You're thinking ... of course she is.

Ellie's blog is called Have Some Decorum.  She has written two books. Ellie is the author of Surviving Thanksgiving which not only delves into the culinary secrets of the O'Connell Family, but also relays funny family stories.  She recently wrote  A Very Chic Christmas which she said could be subtitled How Not To Have A Tacky Christmas.

Now do you understand why I love this woman?

Ellie is married to a handsome French man and is the mother of a beautiful daughter.  She has a myriad of friends - some rich and famous - some not so much.

Ellie writes with self depreciating humor.  Her stories are fascinating and her take on life is exquisitely refreshing.  The most charming ingredient in her writing is her gift of brutal honesty.

One more thing... Ellie has ALS and yet she refuses to let it define her.  She is an inspiration to all.

Stop by Have Some Decorum when you have more than a minute.  Once you read one post, you'll want to read them all.

Tell Ellie her new (imaginary) BFF sent you.

Have a wonderful day!

  2. Not fair Katie! Now I want to sit all day and read Ellie. I didn't even know you could still buy tinsel and am thrilled she educated people about the one strand at a time, not the 'throw fistful' approach.

  4. Okay now I went to her blog and I had to remove my comment because obviously I had no idea of what she really had to live with I just thought she had a charmed life but entertaining as well. I am taken a back at her outlook and wit considering her daily struggle. I am donating for sure as I have a friend who is also extremely ill right now with the same disease. I am following her all around the board and she just put things into perspective for me and for that I am grateful. xo K

  7. Coincidentally and accidentally, yesterday I came across Yolanda.com and couldn't resist checking it out. I watched a minute of her wedding video - the most gorgeous bride I've ever seen. And have you seen her in a bikini?? She'll be 51 yrs old in January 2015 - wow.
PS: Katie - Let's start off 2015 right and do the Master Cleanse together. I'll buy the lemons if you buy the maple syrup and cayenne :)

  9. Katie, I am a long-time follower of your blog (fellow 'Empty Nester' with an only-son in grad school) ~ which I absolutely LOVE. You're a compete 'hoot', real and relatable (NOT vulgar, as some bloggers define being 'down-to-earth'). Thank you so much for sharing your 'find' of Ellie's blog. I am always on the lookout for unique, interesting and tasteful blogs (so many are focused on younger mothers). Also, thank you for continuing to give your followers a glimpse into your world (which many of us can most-likely relate to) while imparting such a humorous spin to your posts!

  13. I stumbled across Ellie's blog a few weeks ago and spent hours reading about her. Her courage and bravery are amazing as she takes on each day. Her honesty about dealing with ALS has really brought a new perspective to me.

My tree would not be decorated if not for my grad school daughter who was home (Houston) during Thanksgiving. She insisted we start last Friday and I'm so glad we did because it sure is nice to have it done! Now I'm just focusing on getting my shopping finished and gifts wrapped!

Wishing you a Merry Christmas in your new home.

    1. So glad you found Ellie's blog. Whenever I see that she has posted I grab a cup of coffee or glass of wine depending upon the time of day, and sit down and feel like she is across the table from me. as far as decorating is concerned...wish my girls were as ambitious as yours! Good luck on finishing your shopping! Have a great weekend and a very Merry Christmas, dear Lisa.

  17. You crack me up! We are so alike it is scary.
All of Christmas decorations are in plastic bins on my big ole southern front porch. Sometimes I go out there and pull something out and then find a place for it inside. I can't decide if I am over all of the decorating or over all of my stuff.....might need to go shopping and fill up a few more bins of some more exciting Christmas stuff. I might just go shopping for more stuff so I can watch my hubs walk back and forth from our separate garage a few more times next year. I have given myself until Tuesday. The bins and everything I haven't used go back over and up into the attic.

I follow Yolanda on Instagram. LOVE HER! I love how she wears sneakers and jeans and still look like a million bucks.........or is that a billion bucks? I tried to pull off that look today as I ran errands with the hubs. No bueno! I fit right in at Home Depot.

Been lazy on the blogging too! Tomorrow is another day!

  19. Ellie has just published a new book, "And So It Is", which is available an an e-book, a soft cover, or a hard cover coffee table book. She has recently been told by her doctor that she is in the final stages of her valiant fight with ALS and has been putting her affairs in order - the publication of this book about her life being one of them. Here is a link to her blog post about her book: http://havesomedecorum.blogspot.com/2016/04/the-book-and-so-it-is.html
