A Somewhat Rhyming Hodgepodge

Hello, dear friends.  It is a rainy, dreary day around here.  I am trying to talk myself into doing a little decorating today.  The outside is done - thanks to the Mister's help.  But I have to work up my motivation to begin on the inside.

1.  Give us three rhyming words that say something about your Thanksgiving holiday (or your most recent holiday gathering if you didn't celebrate Thanksgiving.)

turkey
shlerkey
smerkey

never mind...

May I use a lifeline, please?

2.  When did you last say 'the more the merrier'?
Did you mean it?

We are going to Austin to visit my father in a couple of weeks.  His darling lady friend, Norma, has a wonderful family which we included in our dinner invitation.  The subject line was "the more, the merrier."

3.  What's one piece of advice you'd give someone who is your same age?

I would tell that someone around my age to eat clean and exercise.

It's a funny thing about me doling out advice.
I love giving it, but seldom take it.

4.  You're ordering a veggie plate, what four veggies are on it?

The Mister made a fabulous dinner over the weekend using zoodles and chicken.  I had never had zoodles before and fell in love with them at first bite.  Zoodles are made from zucchini and is the healthy alternative to pasta. You can buy them premade at Whole Foods.

Amazon

Or you can make your own with one of these contraptions.

Instead of a veggie plate, I would like a bowl of zoodles with pesto, pine nuts, and edamame.  You can get the recipe here.

5. Shop til you drop!  Did you?  Have you ever?  Will you between now and Christmas?

I've gone on many a shopping spree in my lifetime.  As a matter of a fact, the Mister snapped this photo of me just a couple of years ago after a successful day at the mall.

What a difference a couple of years make!
I now do most of my shopping on line.

6.  What's your favorite chair in your house, and why is it a favorite?

This is my favorite chair.  It holds a special place in my heart because I love the fabric and when I sit on it, my feet can reach the floor.

7.  Share an early memory of faith, religion, or spirituality.

The first thing that comes to mind was when I was chosen out of my eighth-grade class to participate in the May Crowning.  The nuns appointed me by picking my name out of a hat because they felt that I was a stellar example to my peers.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Amazon

The Today Show hosts were raving about this cookie butter.  Any product with the word cookie and butter in it has to be good.  It is described as a spread reminiscent of gingerbread and made with crushed biscuits which sounds like delectable heaven to me.

You can use it as a sandwich spread or as a dessert topping.

Or if you are dieting such as myself, you can eat it on a spoon or even better, on your finger.
That way you can eat 5 times as much.
It is sold at Trader Joe's.  If you don't want to waste any calories driving there, I included the link to Amazon as well.

What's one piece of advice that you would give someone your age?

Until next time...

  3. I am usually a meat and potatoes gal but I am in love with the Kale Caesar Salad at Panera. My friends are all amazed that Miss Picky likes it. Of course, today I am making desserts for a ladies meeting here at my house tomorrow. They are all on Diets too.LOL

  4. Golly, I'd forgotten you'd taken that photo of me in my colourful shorts at the bus stop, Sis. And as to "what's wrong with this picture?" I'm sure I know! They neglected to include an exit sign in English, right?

  5. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by the indoor decorating. Not doing as much this year because the house is still a work in progress, the lower level anyway. I have to give myself a little grace this year. Zoodles and cookie butter-yum! Not together of course : ) Enjoy your day!

  9. My favorite thing to eat off a spoon is Trader Joe's cocoa almond spread. So good! I love zucchini noodles though I've never called them zoodles. I make my own though. It took me forever to find a spiral cutter thingy but I did. :)

  12. I make zoodles with the cheapoo "As seen on TV" spirolizer. My husband love it. I have never seen them called zoodles. I make it with yellow squash too.

  13. Oh, I may have to indulge in some of that delicious sounding spread. I've heard of zoodles but never had them, think I'd probably like them. Happy rest of the week!

  15. Your HodgePodge posts are always entertaining!
Zoodles at Whole Foods - worth knowing and trying.
Speculoos cookies aren't anything great so I can't imagine that the spread is very good - unless quite a few other tasty ingredients are added. I'm just sayin'

  16. Katie, I do remember shopping till I dropped many times, but now there seems to be a Starbucks on every corner so I just stop in for a jolt of espresso and I'm good to go again! I have that very exact same chair and bench in yellow (where are the Pierres now?) and I love it! Mine (I have 2) are in need of reupholstering but I can't bear to lose the fabulous toile pattern. Have a great day. Linda

  17. I've heard of zoodles, but haven't tried them. Are they a "noodle" consistency, or softer? I love the last picture. My husband was taken around on one of those little leather harnesses and a leash by his mother when he was a little guy. I wonder if there was lasting damage!?! -Jenn

  19. Katie, you are hysterical.

I knew in my heart that we had more in common than our trophy wifeness, CATHOLIC school! I was incarcerated for 12 long years. Wore a royal blue uniform every single day. Writing that brought on a PTSD attack but it will go away as soon as I get to Nordy's and try on a pair of black patent leather shoes.

My hubby loves zoodles. He wore out the first spiralizer and is getting a new one for Christmas.

Have a fab rest of the week! Linda

  20. I've been on a spaghetti squash kick lately, substituting it for pasta. I'll have to look into your Zoodles!

  21. I just love coming here. I learned about zoodles. I might have to try those! And I love the idea of a chair where your feet hit the ground. Or a couch, for that matter. I've been auditioning new couches and they're so deep I feel like Eloise at the Plaza -- no feet on the floor. Plus, I have an older, smaller house and everything is TOO BIG! And all the old couches have the same problem mine does -- too old, too low! What's a girl to do!

Meanwhile, thanks for your Gypsy visits! Southern Exposure is supposed to be sending us recipes and I asked for the rosemary martini. Basically gin with rosemary sugar syrup and red grapefruit juice but not sure on the quantities! I'll let you know when I get it!

  22. Hi Katie, Did you get a new family photo at Thanksgiving? I was hoping to see it today. I've never heard of zoodles, I do have one of those spiral cutter thingies, I'll have to try it. My sweetie is a vegetarian, I'm sure he'll love it. Have a great week.
    Cheers!

  23. I am laughing outloud at the comments about the cookie butter and of course, the picture of you shopping in your youth (wait, is that Kate Beckensale?) and the image of you (as if) now.
Thanks for making a morning at work more fun!
    xo,

  24. I'm still laughing at the last photo! My husband is a twin, and he and his twin are the youngest in his family of four boys. His mom was an army wife, often left at home to raise all four on her own. The stories of the twins attached to a leash come to mind. '-)
Not a big fan of zucchini, but will give the zoodles a try. Yea, for Whole Foods!
Advice ~ start early to keep the arms toned. Wish I had!!!!
So looking forward to your Austin visit soon.

"DON't worry........it will ALL come together."
THAT is my ADVICE of the MONTH!

  26. You make me laugh so much, Katie! You're like one of my sisters - the one who got picked for May crowning. Every time they're together (the first 4 of them), they jeer the one who was chosen (brown noser I think is the term they use), and then they all start singing, "O Mary we crown thee with blossoms today". Hahaha, they stopped doing the May crowning by the time I reached 8th grade....probably a good thing since I'm so competitive, not that I was a brown noser. ;)
#3 - yea, I can do that. watch me. lol.
That last picture...laughed out loud. Pretty much speaks to much of what's going on around us everywhere.
    Merry December!

  27. Thanks for the smiles, Katie! Wine, Dine, Fine - that pretty much sums up our Thanksgiving Day! And our advice for someone our age is "Only look back to see how far you've come." We hope your decorating is underway...
