Weight Watchers Take 1

Hello, dear friends.  We had very little snow all Winter and now Mother Nature is making up for it.  We had quite a bit yesterday and we are due for more tonight.

My #1 just called me to tell me that she and Adorable Jonathon were recognized from my blog by a lovely lady named a Katy.  A big hello to you Katy and maybe I will get to meet you on my next trip to Big D.

I mentioned in January that I decided to join Weight Watchers.  I figure if it's good enough for Oprah, it's good enough for me.  A few readers have written to me inquiring how I was doing with it, so here's the rundown.

Before I started, I looked Atkins, Weight Watchers, and Jenny Craig.  I tried Atkins a few years ago but I just didn't feel right on it.  I felt full but I also felt thick as a brick.  Jenny Craig is very popular with my Sista and a couple of friends.  I just didn't want to be bothered by buying the food all the time.

There were a few things that I needed in a diet.  I wanted to have flexibility in food choices, have a daily occasional glass or two of vino without guilt, use Cremora in my coffee, and lastly, I did not want to be weighed down by carrying around a food scale.

Amazon

Speaking of scales, a few days before I started with WW, I purchased this scale.  Somehow our other scale was thrown out our bathroom window.

It's a mystery to me.

Weight Watchers works on a point system.  There are multiple foods that are 0 points.  Almost all fruits and veggies are 0 points and to be honest, I incorporate as many of these as I can.

Spoiler alert:  I'm a creature of habit.  I basically eat the same thing every day, and I usually order the same thing at all of our usual restaurants.  This drives my ex-chef husband batty.

Have you started to nod off yet?

I can go to meetings if I choose to, but I haven't felt the need.  There is enough support online. Every day there are half a dozen success stories on my Instagram.

I am allotted 23 points a day, and if I don't use all of them, they roll over to the next day.  I also get a few extra points for working out which is very seldom.

WW made me think re-think my food choices.  I ended up asking myself the question is this food worth the points?  For instance, I hate swallowing large pills so I was using up about 6-8 points on all my gummy vitamins, between a Multi, Calcium, Vitamin C and a couple of others that I can't remember.  It must have been the one that is supposed to help with my memory.

This is what I eat for breakfast.  I swapped out my flavored yogurt and packaged oatmeal for Greek Yogurt unsweetened, fruit, and my mini muffin.  This breakfast is 1.5 points, so I have plenty to go.  It may not look it but it keeps me full until lunchtime.

I discovered a few things about Greek yogurt.  I actually really like the taste which was shocking to me because I love my sweets.  Also, if you are like me and have trouble swallowing pills -
use yogurt.  It works like a charm.

Even before I joined WW, I ate a salad for lunch at home.
Now I leave the croutons off and add red/yellow peppers and carrots for crunch.

The Mister and I go out to lunch on weekends a lot.
This is what our table usually looks like.

I never go out without my secret weapon.   Walden Farms Italian Calorie Free dressing is delish. My grocery store is usually out of this dressing, so I end up ordering it by the case through Amazon.  I found that little nifty travel container on Amazon too.

During my afternoon slump, I used to have a cup of sugar-free hot chocolate and a diet ice cream bar.

I now munch on clementines all day long.
Our grocery store sells them peeled.
No hard labor for this girl.

And my hot drink of choice during the day is now tea, which I have with a mini muffin.

Speaking of muffins, these little darlings are 1.5 points each.
You can find the recipe here.
The Mister likes to add fresh berries to the mix.
I don't bake them because I'm not allowed to go near the stove.

It's 5:00 somewhere!
This is my early evening snack.

For dinner, we either have Weight Watchers 0 point Turkey Chili

The Mister adds more tomato and some chicken and replaces the cabbage with spinach.

I know that you are wondering how much weight I lost.
I am 8 pounds thinner than I was on January 1st.
8 pounds with very little exercise.

I'll get into my MOB dress if it's the last thing I do!

Have you ever done Weight Watchers?
Any tips for me?

Until next time...

  1. I have never done WW, but good for you! I had to make changes for my health about 4 years ago. IT was hard, but worth it. IT is a real mindset to choose fruit, but you can do it. There is just so much dang temptation out there, so it is a battle. I would not do well on those things where you have to buy a certain food. I just need a food list and go from there, so WW seems like a good plan.

  2. I'm a lifetime (seriously relapsed) WW member who rejoined online Feb 15th. Oprah impressed me too! So far I've lost 8.5 pounds. My daily plan is similar to yours with me liking the same basic foods like you do. Also I don't cook so there's that! Thank God for hubby's who do cook huh? I do vary my dinners a lot more than you do mostly with the new Healthy Choice Steamer frozen dinners. Also eating a ton of fruits and veggies daily. Not much exercise to speak of yet. My one savior right now is the Premier Protein Shakes that I get delivered from Sam's Club. You can also find them in Walmart. They are only two points but hold me for hours. I love the chocolate. Most people use the vanilla in their coffee instead of creamer. I don't drink coffee so I can't help there. I like sweets so my go to snack or desert mid evening is sugar free chocolate pudding with Lite cool whip and some fruit in it. Also love vanilla lite yogurt with pineapple. These snacks are 3 & 4 points each. Check out Pinterest too there are hundreds of WW boards on there with some great recipes and ideas. I'm happy to be eating better health wise. Good luck to you too!

  3. Did weight watchers years ago, before it was online, after having our second child. It took about 6 months, but I was able to lose the weight I wanted to. I revisited it a few times over the years. (Still have all my little booklets and notebooks where I recorded everything I ate and all my points). When I did WW, there weren't the types of 0 points food that there are now, but maybe the point system is altogether different as well. I think any weight loss system that has you conscientiously being aware of what and how much you are eating is going to be successful. I want to drop about 10 pounds again, but menopause is evil. Way to go on your eight pound weight loss!! -Jenn

  4. I know several folks that have had great success with WW and they don't feel like they had to give up all things good. And, it's learning to eat differently which is key if the weight is going to stay off. Good for you, yes you will definitely get into that dress. You'll be the best looking MOB for sure!

  5. Congratulations on your weight loss! I lost almost 20 points on WW last year and it has become a way of life for me. I truly feel so much better!
I ate as many 0 point foods as I could, but still counted 4 (or 8) points for wine a day :) One of the hardest things I did was give up creamer for my coffee every morning but found out I now love black coffee, and instead of coconut yogurt I have a fried or scrambled egg with rotisserie chicken lunch meat with clementine oranges as a chaser and stay more satisfied for longer because of the protein.

I love ranch dressing mix which is 0 points on vegetables mixed with a small amt of olive oil before roasting as something savory and instead of desert I chew Mentos gum after every meal which satisfies my sugar urge.

I still crave mexican food and have it occasionally on a weekend, but it works out fine as I try to have as many 0 point foods as I can during the week.

Good luck to you!!! I have become much more aware of everything I eat and still enjoy food just like before, but when I have a chance I eat 0 point foods then enjoy an occasional splurge on everything else without feeling too guilty. Kim

  7. Yes, I did WW 8-10 years ago and lost 50 pounds in 5 months. It really works as long as you follow the plan. And I always took Saturdays off, after my morning weigh-in. Good for you!! Congrats on the 8 pounds!

  8. I'm a fan of WW. I did it a few years ago, with great success. I've put some lbs. on since Christmas, and I need to get serious about it again. The nice things about WW is it is easy to follow if one is disciplined. Obviously I wasn't the first part of the year! Congratulations on the 8 lbs. That's great!!!

  9. Those muffins look wonderful. Definitely making me rethink my breakfast choice today. Thanks for the inspiration!

  10. You have inspired me. Between getting remarried last year and the big M, I put on 10 pounds that I really didn't need. We see so much about Keto and Paleo these days, but I want a way of living where I can still occasionally indulge in some peanut M and Ms or my favorite shortbread cookies! Super proud of your 8 lb loss!

  12. Congratulations, Katie! I have done WW a few times over many years but they didn't have the Points System back then...I really think it's a very healthy plan and I love so many of the foods on that list. Right now, with whatever this is going on in my body, losing weight is a non-issue with me. Your salad from the restaurant is one of my favorites and I could eat mandarins all day...and I didn't know you could buy them already peeled! Keep up the good work!

  13. Congratulations! I am sure that you are going to look fabulous in your MOB dress. I applaud you for doing WW, I HATE to diet and the minute I tell myself that I cannot have something it is all that I want to eat. If you are a walker you could aim for 10,000 steps a day and you can challenge people I believe with your fitbit app and invite them to "walk along with you."

    Keep up the good work!

  15. Welcome aboard, Sis. You've joined at the right time. The zero point system is an absolute godsend in my books. I love the 0 fat greek yogurt, especially with a tsp or so of Ceylon cinnamon tossed in.

My son is attending a huge wedding in Midland this month which promises to make the society pages of the oil barrons..I hope they allow me to share some photos!

  18. I sure needed to hear this. Fantastic you've lost 8 lbs already. I've been really bad since Christmas. I'm usually a healthy eater and now I need to get it going again. This plan sounds like one I could work with. We are a lot like you and your chef, weekends are for gong out and I need to try your salad dressing and container. Thanks for this post Katie, hope you'll keep tips and suggestions coming in your posts.

  25. Congratulations on your discipline and weight loss! Keep up the excellent work. Such healthy eating... and the weight loss is the bonus. I like how you have a mini muffin with your breakfast... let's not strip all the joy out of getting out of bed each day IMO. (I think that Chobani makes the best tasting plain yogurt.)

  26. I did weight watchers years ago and lost 15 pounds. The program definitely works. I’m like you a creature of habit and found what I like and ate it every day. If we went to a restaurant, I would look at the points before I went. There’s a woman that has painstakingly our together a huge list of restaurants with points next to menu items . One thing I remember from all those years ago us saving 4 points for a glass of wine at the end some days . Good luck!!

  27. Sounds like you are doing great and have found something that really works for you! Congratulations! Your meals really do look delicious. And I can't believe your grocery store sells clementines that are already peeled. I'd be all over that if my store had that service. Whoa. Thanks for sharing at Sweet Inspiration!
