Easy Peasy Centerpieces

Good morning, dear friends.  I hope that you are having a good weekend.

Yesterday, the Mister and I spent the day in Connecticut for a funeral.  My Sista's beautiful Mother-In-Law passed away.  The funeral was fitting for a woman who was the quintessential hostess with a heart of gold.

This post is an oldie but a goodie from a few years ago.

One of my favorite boards to pin on Pinterest is "DIY." When scrolling through these brilliant ideas, I always seek out the ones that look fairly easy. Unfortunately, I have come to find out that although these projects are probably elementary-level to almost everyone - there is one exception to the rule - moi.

All of my whole-hearted attempts seem to end in a defeated call to Sista who then whips out her glue gun, a shoebox, and some watercolors only to end up with a DIY project worthy of some upscale designer boutique. She then sends me a text with a picture, and as I fawn over her latest creation, she tells me it is merely my "interpretation" that fell short.

This is one of my favorites...

Sista and #2 love mercury glass.  Great touch to any table.

Love pistachios, I've got the tarnished candle sticks holders, but not sure I could figure out how to put the whole thing together.

This goes under the "why didn't I think of that?" category.

How pretty these would look around the table!

Do I have enough patience to put this sweet arrangement together?  Probably not.

Looks fairly easy.

Love the simplicity of this.

Great looking vignette - the only part I could pull off is the ornaments in the tray.

Great idea... but for some reason, my paper whites never bloom in time. Shocker!

Looks fairly easy; may try this next year after I build up my confidence for a year of attempting to glue 55 candy canes together.

What an elegant touch for every table setting.

I'm pretty sure I could pull this off, and I'm almost sure of it if Sista helped!

Speaking of oldies but goodies...

Until next time...

  1. Sorry to hear about your sister's mother-in-law. It sounds like she enjoyed life. The last tablescape with the spring green ornaments and silver and glitter is amazing. But Katie, thank you for the final treat in your post. Dear lord, how I love George Clooney. -Jenn

  5. Always sad to lose a family member, especially during the holidays. My condolences to your sister's family.

Beautiful table setting ideas here. The candy canes holding the menu selections is so clever. Merry Christmas, Janey

  6. I am so sorry for your family's loss especially heartfelt right here at the holidays.

I did want to tell you, though, that a few years ago, I copied that thing with the roses and candy canes with pretty darn good results. No glue gun was necessary! I will see if I can find the link to my post for you, but all you need to do is put a rubber band around a cylindrical container, and then put the candy canes in behind the rubber band a nice little row all around! Then you tie a ribbon around it to cover the rubber band. You arrange the roses in a slightly smaller cylinder and pop that one into the first one. Very easy! If memory serves I think I used a couple of tin cans (that I might have spray painted).

    1. Here is the link to the post -- it was Christmas 2011! https://scribblerunfocused.blogspot.com/2011/12/candy-cane-roses.html
Actually, it was a plastic Folger's coffee canister which I realized after I found the post.

    2. Thank you, Scribbler. Now all I have to do is find a rubber band in the Bermuda Triangle of a junk drawer in my kitchen! Have a great week.

  7. Sorry to hear of your sister's loss. These are great ideas and I am sure you could make all of these if you put your mind to it! However i have tried a few and they sometimes look a bit lost on a table...they look better in a photo!!

  10. I loved the decorating ideas the fist time you posted them, and I love them the second time too. You can't go wrong with ornaments in bowls and tall glass containers. That's pretty much the extent of my DIY decorating talents.

  11. There are some great ideas here. I'm not exactly a talent when it comes to DIY-ing either. But I loved a couple of these...we grow holly and I think I have some little clear glass fish bowl shaped vases, maybe I'll give that one a shot.
    Thanks for the inspiration.

  13. What if I just print off pictures of these centerpieces and prop them up on my table. Would that work?
