Hello, dear friends. I hope that you are enjoying your weekend. I have a feeling that my Chicago friends are ecstatic for their beloved Cubbies.
A few weeks ago, I did a post on Sista's kitchen renovation. Today I have another treat for you from her picturesque home in Connecticut.
Drum roll, please.
I present Sista's dining room.
Sista has been one busy little bee. She renovated her dining room a few months ago. It used to be quite formal. The walls were covered in red damask wallpaper, she had a french mahogany table, french chairs, gold mirror, and chandelier - so this is quite a change. Her goal was to create a less formal dining room that would not only compliment her renovated kitchen but be more inviting for casual family members.
Believe it or not, Sista's #2 Son made this beautiful farm table for her from reclaimed wood. She found the bench and Windsor chairs at local flea markets and painted them all to match.
The dining room is one of my favorite rooms in Sista's Connecticut house because of its charming fireplace. Part of the renovation process included painting the fireplace. I thought I really liked it before, but the black is stunning.
Sista's home is the epitome of New England charm.
Thank you, dear Sista, for sharing your dazzling dining room with us. Please keep on renovating so that I have something to write about in my blog and I don't have to resort to telling all your dirty secrets.
Until next time...
We just purchased a small farm table for our little getaway house. The man who made the table is making two benches for us to match!! I have a rather formal dining room here at home and I have thought of going more casual. After seeing Sista's reno I may do the same thing here.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice renovation! I love the chandelier, and especially the cupboards above the fireplace! The room is so much brighter and looks so much more comfortable, too. Also love all of her mercury glass pumpkins!!
ReplyDeletelove the updates! especially painting the chairs all one color...i have a set similar to hers and have been contemplating painting them...this is inspiring me :)
ReplyDeleteJust stunning! How lucky you are in the USA,to have bigger houses.
ReplyDeleteIn the average Dutch home,we have our dining table in the livingroom, no dining rooms here!
I love the changes. That was a gutsy thing to do, painting the fireplace that way, but it really suits it! I think the "formal" dining room is becoming a thing of the past and hers is very comfortable and inviting looking. (Is that little dog seriously named George Clooney, one of the most handsome charming unfortunately now unavailable men alive?) -Jenn
ReplyDeleteLove it! Kudos to your talented nephew. That table is gorgeous, and the mix of chairs and bench are perfect. I think it looks casual with sophistication. Sista's mix of real and mercury glass pumpkins with the hydrangea is a great look. Crushing over the wall of windows at the end and the details on the fireplace. Thanks for sharing Sista's beautiful dining room. More of her home, please!
ReplyDeleteThat is one beautiful and welcoming dining room! Love love the table. Everything is exactly my style. Sista would fit right in here in Chester County too.
ReplyDeleteHer old dining room was lovely and elegant but how I adore her new one. It's so warm and welcoming. I really love the table -- that's fabulous -- and the seating is perfect. Plus the decorations on the mantle, table, etc. are just perfect.
ReplyDeleteLovely..it's so inviting and cozy. It just begs for a huge Thanksgiving spread filled with happy (and hungry) people all together for the holidays...thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love it, Katie. She did a wonderful job and I do think it is a lot more 'family friendly' with the less formal setting. That being said, I do love a formal dining room, too! Love her new table her son made. It is perfect. Fireplace and chandy really change the look up, too. She did a GREAT job! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteLove it, love it, love it! Fabulous makeover! Stunning and charming!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this! This is what I wish mine looked like. I also have formal style furniture and just think the casual style is so inviting. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteWow -- it's so pretty! That turned out fabulous! Love these peaks at your sissy's house! Her pups are adorable!
ReplyDeleteKatie, YOU & SISTA are hired! Need y'all to road trip to Atlanta and give some tips for those of us that that are challenged in the decorating department.
ReplyDeleteI am in love. Totally. I would love to do something similar to my little-used, too formal DR. Maybe once we update our kitchen, it'll follow suit. I can only hope. It's gorgeous. Son #2 did a fabulous job on the table, and sista did as well with the whole design and execution. Love those leaded glass windows hung on the wall and used as doors on the cabinet. Thanks for sharing, lots of great ideas there.

Really like the new color of the fireplace, very smart. The black Windsor chairs are great too. Just wondering how many coats of paint were needed to cover the original red walls? So nice and ready for thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteI just fell in love with a dining room! Gorgeous is an understatement. I also need George Clooney in my life!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely transformation! It's so casually elegant! I would imagine they use the room so much more now. It's such a beautiful place to entertain. Thanks for the tour!
ReplyDeleteWonderful reno...The fireplace does really pop with that black paint. With all the renovation I am thinking she must be dying to host everyone for Thanksgiving. Have a great week.

Katie,
ReplyDeleteLove your sister's reno. I am embarrassed to say I too have a red traditional dining room that is ready for change! I was wondering if you could share the base of the new table - love it! Thanks!
