My Two New Favorite TV Shows

The Mister and I watch a lot of TV in the evenings.  I admit it.  What do you expect?  We're empty nesters.  No car pools, cold nights watching tennis practice, no more grilling parent/ teacher nights, or never-ending lines at Chick-fil-A buying our family's dinner so that a portion of the proceeds would be donated to sponsor the 4th grade field trip to Six Flags.  That part I don't miss.

But I have to admit I miss having my girls at home every night terribly every once in awhile.

On to my new two favorite TV shows.

Wow.  I came late to the party on Scandal.  Just started watching it this season which is in its second season.  It is a political thriller loosely based on President George W. Bush's press aide, Judy Smith.  Ms. Smith is also the co-executive producer of the show.

Kerry Washington plays Olivia, who owns a crisis management firm. (I could have used her a few years ago when I was raising two teenage girls.)  Anyway... she is a former White House Communication Director for the President of the United States, otherwise known as POTUS.

As if Olivia is not busy enough managing the crisis of every bigwig in DC, she is also having an affair with the POTUS.  Reminder - I said "loosely based" on W's press aide.  This is the part where reality is replaced by Hollywood story lines.

Anthony Goldwyn plays the POTUS brilliantly.  I would vote for him in a heartbeat.  Literally, in a heartbeat. There is an abundance of sexual chemistry between Olivia and the POTUS which makes the show even more intriguing.

Let's not even talk about the fact that the First Lady is preggos.  Ok, now I KNOW I stole your attention away from that silly old Super Bowl.
Tune in and let me know what you think.

No way was I coming late to the party on this new show.  Tuned in, thanks to my personal "world news" source, People Magazine,  that awarded  The Americans a very good review.

I loved Kerry Russell in Felicity and couldn't live without Matthew Rys' sweet temperament in Brothers and Sisters.

The Americans is centered around a "typical" American couple raising two children in a DC suburb in the 1980's.  We gradually learn that this couple, Elizabeth and Phillip, are actually spies employed by the KGB.  They were placed in America to work as "sleepers" gathering information for future use.

What makes this couple so interesting and provocative is that their marriage was arranged by the KGB.  After watching this incredible love match, I urge my single friends to ditch Match.com and join the CIA.

Wow, who knew Felicity and the gay brother from Brothers and Sisters would be so sizzling hot in the kitchen?

I highly recommend both of these TV shows.  They hold a prominent place on my hit parade but they don't hold a candle to my one and only true love.  Who needs the Super Bowl when you've got Downton Abbey?

Happy Super Bowl Sunday!
Hope your team wins!
