I hope all is well in your world. I can't complain about the biting temperatures because Al Roker tells me the entire country is experiencing cold weather.
On Saturday, we had a delightful lunch with Adorable Jonathon's parents. We didn't realize what a great deal we got when our #1 and Adorable Jonathon married. We gained a sweet twin-in-law as well as two dear friends.
And I bet you can't guess who the topic of our conversation was!
This thriller's central character is a famous writer. When we meet her, she is covered in blood next to her dead husband. I could not put this book down. The twists and turns will give you whiplash. The ending left me breathless. This comes out on March 17th.
Kate Quinn is a wonderful writer. I always enjoy her books. This one takes place in DC in 1950 in a broken-down boarding house for women. One of Kate Quinn's greatest talents is her ability to create multi-dimensional, realistic characters.
This was the perfect palette cleanser after a heart-stopping thriller. This story takes place in DC during the Kennedy administration. Beverly is married to Larry, who is the campaign manager for a senate incumbent. Beverly surprises her husband at work, and she is not the only one surprised by her husband and his aide in a compromising position. Beverly then approaches the underdog senate candidate running against her husband's candidate and asks for a job. Let the games begin! Great narration!
Louise is a discontented wife in London in 1953. Her husband is suffering from mild PTSD. She comes across a necklace with which she is very familiar. This is told in two compelling timelines. This comes out on February 4th.
This is the sequel to Presumed Innocent, which I enjoyed many years ago. Rusty Sabich is back! He is now a judge and madly in love with his much younger live-in, Bea. She brings to the table her adopted son, who is on probation for drug possession. His girlfriend, an addict, is murdered. Guess who is arrested and who dusts off his legal chops and defends him. The narration is well done.
A nurse practitioner begins her work at a prison. She does not disclose the fact that she is responsible for putting an inmate behind bars. I can always depend on Freida McFadden for a decent thriller.
A shy young man is told by an FBI agent that he is the victim of the most notorious kidnapping of the past century. His biological mother is a big shot in the State Department. This thriller is fast-paced and kept me guessing.
Five sets of parents arrange to meet for dinner with their students to celebrate the beginning of Parents Weekend. There are 5 no-shows. I bet you can't guess who they are. There is never a dull moment in an Alex Finlay novel. This comes out in May.
Two women with nothing in common sit beside each other on a plane. They exchange small talk. In a few days, both women send text messages to their friends and family about the same man. The plot was cleverly constructed and ended with a bang.
This was a charming look at actor Edward Burns' Irish Catholic childhood in the 1970's New York. He does a great job narrating it.
Grady, a well-known author, tells his wife great news as she is driving home. He hears a crash and a door opening. He calls his wife's name and gets no response. There is no sign of her when he finally finds his wife's car at a cliff's edge. The year brings great depression for Grady. His agent talks him into going to a small Scottish island to get some writing done. And so a mystery upon mystery begins to unravel.
You will love this book if you don't mind hearing lists upon lists of ingredients.
We really enjoyed this one.
Great talent and a good show.
Both of these standup acts are really funny without being crass.
If you're in the dumps, tune into one of these talented comedians and kiss the blues goodbye.
One of the Mister's favorites.
Interesting story and great acting.
This season came with a big cliffhanger.
Beautiful story.
Love this show!
This started off strong but led to a very depressing ending.
We really enjoyed this doc.
I love a good medical show.
I'm two shows in, and the series lacks a background storyline. It compensates by supplying plenty of blood and gore. I like Noah Wyle, but not enough to watch another episode.
Beemie here… currently reading the Briar Club… I am enjoying it. Try Becoming Madame Secretary by Stephanie Dray… freezing here. Take care.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the recommendations. We're in a winter wonderland here in Houston!
ReplyDeleteLooks like some great books there. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI LOVED STANLEY TUCCI'S BOOK!I think you may have to be a cook to appreciate the food ingredients.
ReplyDeleteSuperb
ReplyDeleteWe watched Dexter's beginning too (boy did they nail Deb's character!), No Good Deed was great, and we're really enjoying The Pitt as well. Bookie was pretty good too!
ReplyDeleteLoved Stanley Tucci's first book, this one not quite as much tbh. However, came to say, if you haven't watched comedian Mike Birbiglia (Netflix), he's one of the best!
