The Friday Files

Hello, dear friends.  I hope that you had a good week.  All is well here.  I took my first walk since we moved in.  I knew the route well - it is the same one that I took the last time I lived here.

This weekend, our #2 is coming for lunch on Sunday.  She just bought a new car, and I am excited to take a ride in it.

Here are some things that caught my eye this week.

James Farmer is one of my favorite designers.

This beauty in Alabama is definitely worth the mention.

This gorgeous home can be found in the beautiful town of Marblehead, Massachusetts.

Bill and Melinda Gates have been in the headlines for the past few days.  My girls are graduates of the same high school as Melinda Gates.  Her foundation made a generous visit while my girls were in attendance, and both of them were captivated by her warmth and grace.

Here is a glance at Bill and Melinda's property portfolio.

Here is a guide for newbies.

Do you look forward to catching up on your reading during the Summer?

Here's a list of the best beach reads of 2021.

This came out on Tuesday, and I am listening to it now.
The author is one of my favorites.

I hope this one is as good.

I'm hot and cold on this author.
The story sounded interesting, so I downloaded it.

Speaking of books, one of my favorite Instagrammers just released her book.

Christina and Stella were also highlighted on Sunday Morning a couple of weeks ago.

It's patio time in Texas.

* Send this article to your hubby on Mother's Day.
If he doesn't get the hint, put on a pout.

Here's a sneak peek of our patio.  Remember I mentioned that I wanted to have a screened-in porch?  Well, my wish is the Mister's command.  He hired a company that installs roll-down screens.  They will go outside of the arches.  And the best news is that we will get them at the end of this month.

It's very shady back on our patio.
So I googled shade-loving containersand this one of the items that I found.

Are you a teacher?
Do you know a teacher?
Here's a funny article that lists the funniest tweets by teachers chronicling what it's like to do their job during a pandemic.

Here are some incentives for all of you out there who have yet to get vaccinated.

This is on my must-see list.

This one too!
Has anyone seen this one yet?

More good news...
A Jane Austen novel is being adapted into not one but two features.

Speaking of Hollywood, our girl, Gwyneth, has given a whole new meaning to a loaf of bread.

As if that's not enough good news, Croc wearers should be very proud when they hear this.

Happy belated to my ex.
Don't pretend you don't read my blog, George.
Rumor has it that you are up to your old tricks again.

Oh, by the way, I may be not be blogging for much longer.

I found my dream job.

Preppy Empty Nester

I'm Katie. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I am an empty nester meandering through my middle-aged years while entangled in the never-ending process of renovating an antique home on the South Shore of Massachusetts. I love to write about books, movies, TV, celebrities, decorating, and weekend adventures. My favorite writing material is derived from my family: the Mister, my girls, #1 and #2, and my two untrainable, rambunctious pups, Chowdah and Chili.

  1. You always find the most drool-worthy houses to fawn over. I'd love that pool paired with the yellow house... set in a warmer climate!

  4. If I ever win the Georgia lottery (LOL) I'm hiring James to decorate my house, then buying a lake house and having him "do it up" as well....until then I'll just drool over all of his gorgeous interiors.

    Happy Mother's Day Katie!

  7. I had a peak at the Gate's properties. Wowza! None of my business but I wonder how you can possibly feel cozy or "at home" in any of these? And the first one---66,000 square feet? I'm aware that property is a very good investment but who could afford any of these homes other than Gates himself? Ha!

Loved catching up on the latest. I am happy to hear Renee Rozen has a new book out. I've read a few. I want to go over to Nordstom now to look at the purses. Summer is so hard because you want something light in weight and color and I can never get the right combo. I don't like to switch purses with outfits fo just one or four per season is fine.

Looking forward to more peeks of your new home!

    Jane ❤️

  8. Those houses are stunning. And your back patio is too! Well, the arches are. :) What a difference it will be having those screens installed.

    Have a blessed Mother's Day!

  9. What a juicy post! I had to run to Krispy Kreme (again!) to get refreshments while reading....(we've worn that freebie out!). Wonder if Melinda will give Bill all the pastures while she takes the coastal homes? Lily James is a spitting image of my ophthalmologist's assistant, love that girl. That James Farmer tour was sublime.....Happy Mother's Day weekend, lady!

  11. I loved Atlantic Crossing and PBS' website had a great Fact or Fiction feature for each episode to separate the truth from the dramatization.

Don't despair, while I'm honing my winemaking skills and hanging out on the Russian River ... you'll be just as happy sipping wine on your beautifully screened in porch.
