My Favorite Things by #2

Hello, dear friends.  What a gorgeous Fall we are having here in the Northeast!  It gives me a little spring in my step on my daily walks.

Our continuous journey of packing is still in progress.  Over the past few days, I have learned some valuable lessons.  One is that I may be a hoarder.  We have way too much stuff.  I have found things that I hadn't seen since we lived in The Woodlands, which was 15 or so years ago.  Every time I feel overwhelmed by all the pottery, thingamajigs, and tchotchkes, I search the house for an item of the Mister's and throw it out.  Then I feel a lot better.

Another valuable lesson that I learned was to always keep my iPhone in a designated place.  I had many a few anxiety attacks over the last few days where I thought that I packed my phone.  The worst part was that I couldn't for the life of me remember which box I packed last.
If I didn't know better, I would think that I am getting old.
That can't be.

Today, I have another guest writer.  I asked both my daughters and SIL to make a list of their favorite things and my #2 complied. Hmmmm...

Now, if you think that I have been pawning off my blog duties on my family members, you are one hundred percent correct.

Without further ado, I pass you over to my #2.

It has been a long time since I picked up a keyboard to write just about anything outside of an email, but when my Mom asked me to write a Favorite Things post, I could not resist. Helpful to note before getting started, my writing style is a bit different from my Mom's utter brilliance, so apologies in advance.

For some context, my life BC (Before COVID) looks a bit different than my life in the Q (Quarantine).

BC

  • On a plane 2x per week
  • Living mostly out of a suitcase
  • Attire teetering between business casual and business professional
  • "Takeout" as the single item on my food pyramid
  • Netflix

In the Q

  • (Temporary) Dog mom
  • Working from home
  • Attire founded on the principle, "will my boss cringe?"
  • Fire alarm going off from my cooking no less than 3x per week
  • Netflix

So, as you can see, my day-to-day looks a bit different, which is why you will see from my purchases that they were either definitely BC or In the Q

Alright, now let's get started.

Best Purchases BC

A personal favorite is my silicone Stojo mug

Saves room, keeps me hydrated, and does not taste like plastic (the best part).

If you aren't familiar with a Wet Brush, get on it. Back when I brushed my hair regularly, this saved my locks from significant torment. Now, please do not ask my Mom about my hair; she keeps threatening to cut it all off in my sleep. Anticipating a surprise outing to Great Clips the second she crosses state lines.

If you talk to anyone who works with me, you will know that sweaters are a staple in my every day.   (Thanks Mom, for never letting me leave the house without one, now I look like a psychopath on summer afternoons in Texas). If you refuse to give up a good sweater when it starts to pill, like me, then you must have a sweater shaver. Not only is it therapeutic to watch it fill the little shaving compartment, but your sweater will look like it did the day you bought it. Please do not try to bring it through security.

Okay, now onto the fun stuff.

Best Purchases in the Q

Amazon

I found this through a blogger (@SomewhereLately) and will NEVER go a day without it. As a recent (temporary) Dog Mom to a baby angel with a sensitive stomach and a penchant for vomiting on my beautiful rugs (not mad, just disappointed), this is a staple: Folex Instant Carpet Spot Remover. I have used it on furniture (namely, my couch), rugs, carpet, etc. and it gets out the most colorful stains in seconds.

As an aspiring decent chef, I need a non-stick pan that can deal with my concoctions.  This is the only brand that I have found that can tackle my previously frozen, often overcooked, cookbook-deviant dinners.  I have this pan and will order another in the event that I ever destroy it.

I have a terrible back. Like absolutely awful. Chiropractors have even shied away from the challenge. This is AMAZING for alleviating the pain when sitting in the same spot for 16+ hours a day. It is pure luxury.  10/10 recommend

Amazon

I read Rachel's last book and really liked it.

I just ordered her newest one, which sounds very timely.

No more hair breakage or ponytail bumps for me.

I love these things.

I use the whole line of Olaplex.

My hair feels and looks healthier.

Sephora

I've tried tons of dry shampoos, but this one is by far the best.

It smells great too.

As an up-and-coming helicopter mom, I needed to have eyes on Chowdah any time of day. Do I leave my apartment a lot? No. Do I need to check in on him when I go to get the mail? Obviously, I want to make sure he is still breathing.

After complaining about this enough times, Chowdah decided to get me a surprise for my birthday: the WOpet. It has an amazing camera and I can shoot treats at him whenever the spirit moves me (12-14 times a day, often when I am sitting right next to him as well).

The greatest gift ever, thanks Chow (read: Mom & Dad).

And, I leave you with a never-in-my-life-for-the-rest-of-my-life-cannot-live-without: Bioderma Micellar Water. Kathleen Jennings on Insta introduced me to this holy water. It is wonderful, and the best way to quickly and effectively clean my face. So good they are in an entirely different league altogether from the Neutrogena wipes.

Okay, you've heard enough from me, and now officially know how much time and $ I give to Jeff Bezos and my beloved Sephora.

Thanks for taking a little detour from your regularly-scheduled programming to listen to me, now back over to the talent to wrap things up.

Thank you, #2.

It looks like you will be finding a little something extra in your Christmas stocking this year.

Are you listening, #1?

Until next time...

Curious as to where you will live? Did you find another house or will you rent temporarily?

    1. Hi Melissa... we will be in temporary housing until we find the right house. It may take awhile because the real estate market is so hot right now.

  4. Thanks #2 ... I'm putting all your recommendations into my cart immediately.I know my 20-something nieces will love them too. On a personal note ... reading your mom's introduction I realized I spelled ado incorrectly in my last blog post. I'm beyond mortified and cannot type another word until it's rectified. OMG. xo

  7. You are just a darling girl with a great sense of humor, with a talent like your mom. It's fun to read what the young professionals do and how they live. Thanks for a peek into your world. Thanks for the recommendations on these items. We all take note when your mom does this post and your dad. I just referenced back to his list while shopping online for a gift. You know you will miss that mischievous Chowder when he goes back home, just saying. So nice to get to know you............

I need to drink more water so I'll check your suggestion out I don't have a pooch so I don't need that. But lots of fun. Keep it up.

  12. Good luck with the packing, Katie. I'm cleaning and finding quite a bit of "I didn't know I had that" or "I'd given up looking for that!" So, I can relate!

  14. Nice double handed post - #2 will see that I featured Olaplex this week! I fear that we also have too much "stuff." Most of it is invisible as it's hidden away in the loft (roof space). But I know it's there, and will oneday have to be got down and got rid of. Thanks for joining #WowOnWednesday!

  15. Wonderful list!! Another pan you might try out is the Scanpan CS+ or the Scanpan Pro IQ. Your Dad may have already used this, but they are awesome and have a lifetime warranty.

  17. Chow looks so happy, I just hope he does not start barking with a Texas accent.

Clearly #2 inherited many talents from both her parents. I can't wait to try the Bioderm and the stain remover.

  20. HI Katie! I loved Daughter #2's suggestion. I think she is close in age to my #1. My daughter turned me onto living proof and the travel bottles make great stocking stuffers! When do you guys move? Is it a drive or a flight?
PS I saved your favorite reading and watch list in my inbox to revisit.
