Bedroom Update & Designing Women

Hello, dear friends.  I hope that you are having a lovely weekend.  We went to see On The Basis of Sex yesterday and really enjoyed it. The story of Ruth Bader Ginsberg's life is an interesting one.  Hottie Armie Hammer provided the eye candy for the film.

I have been participating in a battle of wills with our resident diva, Chili.  It seems as though I am adding an accessory to her wardrobe every day in an effort to keep her from getting at her back wound.  Every time I feel that I have found the perfect protective armor, she manages to get around it and starts scratching.  I swear she is double jointed.  She must have inherited it from me.

Enough about me.
I'm even boring myself with my Chili stories.

*****

Say hello to the ladies at the helm of K+S Design.  Kathleen (l) and Suzanne have been in the design biz for 15 years.  They are based out of Scituate, Mass.

I met Kathleen about six months ago at Buttonwood's Supper With The Authors.  We hit it off right away and meet monthly with a few other ladies for dinner.

I decided last Fall that our bedroom needed a facelift.  I didn't want to make major changes because I love the wall color.  New bedding and artwork were in order.

I asked Kathleen and Suzanne over to look at the project a few months ago.  They suggested to stick with the blue and white and add a pop of another color.

So on Thursday, Kathleen and Suzanne came over with their roller bags overflowing with colorful swatches.  They asked me lots of questions to get an idea of what I liked and what I didn't.

The thing that I like about them is that they actually listen.  One other thing - Kathleen and Suzanne never try to push me into something I don't want just because it is the latest thing.

Next stop:  the Boston Design Center.

You'll never guess who I ran into!  My first husband.  This guy never gives up.  Does anyone know the stalking laws here in Massachusetts?

Kathleen filling out the paperwork for checking out more swatches.

I fell in love with these gorgeous pillows.

This is a fabric with cut-out words.
Perhaps a blogger duvet?

How cute is this darling lamp?

We stopped into a lot of the showrooms.  We spent the most time in Schumacher.  The above swatches are strong contenders. I love the added color of celery green.

The lovely lady in the middle is Monique, who works for Schumacher.  Kathleen and Suzanne notified her ahead of time with my specs and photos of the bedroom.  Monique had a whole table laid out with suggested swatches.  She really knows her stuff.

Did you know that the public can walk around the Design Center?  At one time, you had to have a designer's card.  You can't check anything out or order anything without a designer, but you are free to browse.

There is an area in the Design Center that is called the Market Stalls where antique dealers sell their goods.  The public is invited to buy things right off the floor.  The only card needed is a credit card.

I wish that I had a spot for this gorgeous chest.

My Sista has an affinity for round tables.
She would probably go bananas over this one.

What??
No portraits of an overactive Goldendoodle or a Million Dollar Malti-Mutt?

There's something about old books that I absolutely love.

This huge armoire had actual book bindings glued to the front of it.

As we were on our way out, I spotted this darling photo.
The lady in the middle is the spitting image of me in my dreams.  If I had a back like that, I would walk backward for the rest of my life.

It was a delightful day with the designing women of K+S Design.  Next step?  Kathleen and Suzanne come back to the house with prospective design plans.

I'm counting the minutes.

Until next time...

I'm Katie. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I am an empty nester meandering through my middle-aged years while entangled in the never-ending process of renovating an antique home on the South Shore of Massachusetts. I love to write about books, movies, TV, celebrities, decorating, and weekend adventures. My favorite writing material is derived from my family: the Mister, my girls, #1 and #2, and my two untrainable, rambunctious pups, Chowdah and Chili.

  1. Oh My!!! I am in process of re-doing my bedroom as I type! Painting the walls a very calm mid tone gray with dark gray trim on tray ceiling. Going to put white beadboard in the large flat area of tray ceiling. And my colors are going to be navy, aqua, coral and white.
JUST LIKE THAT WALLPAPER THAT YOUR FRIENDS ARE SITTING IN FRONT OF!!!! How I would love to have some shams made out of fabric like that paper!!!
Cannot wait to see how yours turns out!!
And that print of the three girls????? What a lovely gift that would make for a girlfriend.....LOVE IT!!!!!!

  5. I absolutely love all the eye candy in this post. Believe or not one of them gave me an idea. Stay tuned:)
Now, for the bedroom...I was loving those orange pops because those are Auburn colors and you know I am an Auburn Tiger all the way, but for the bedroom I am loving those greens. I am excited that they were able to use what you have. That is a great designer to work with. Can't wait to see what you come with.
Chili is a bless her heart situation. My my!!!

  6. Oh, my goodness, I LOVE fabric and it was one of the most fun parts of working with our decorator when building our new house. The selections are endless and thankfully my decorator narrowed down my choices for me and did a super great job in doing so. I can't wait to see your newly designed bedroom, I know it will be magazine worthy.

Poor Chili, he's just had a more than unfair time lately. Hope he's on the road upward.

    Happiest of weekends!

  8. Hi- I am sure that you saw this but the pillows that you fell in love with in the photo with them on the sofa also comes in a predominantly blue and green color way. You can see a pillow made from this fabric on the "design indulgence blog" most recent post. Of course they are all beautiful! I love all of the eye candy above- thank you so much for sharing!

    1. Angel... it's no wonder that your name is Angel - you are one! Thanks so much for bringing this to my attention. I sent the pic of the pillow to Kathleen so she would get some swatches. This is the exact reason I love to blog. Thank you so much and have a wonderful Sunday.

  10. The decorative phase is the best - love your green choice. That Market Stalls concept - wonderful! Like I need to buy anything right now...but it would also be a great way for homeowners to purge when they downsize - sell to the designers for this venue!

  14. Katie, I loved this post. Not only is the process of redesigning fun for me, but the anticipation of the final result is so exciting. So, I await the re-done bedroom with baited breath. I also enjoyed the pictorial tour of the Design Center. Walking through these places are a favorite pastime. Oh my, how upsetting finding your stalker right there on the wall must have been. LOL!

  15. Poor Chili, sure hope she's better soon. Sounds like you found just the right gals to help you jazz up the bedroom. I love your blue, I would certainly keep that. Can't wait to see what you choose and the room finished. I'm afraid if I were to ever get into The Boston Design Center I'd never leave! Have a great week......

  20. Oh I can’t wait. I spent a lot on my bedroom only five years ago....and I am ready for something else. Trying to convince hubby. I think when I spent that much...he thought it was forever. Not!
Poor Chili...Have a nice week Katie. Walking backwards had me giggling...

  21. Poor Chili, quite the outfit! I want to redo my master too, but I will probably just go for something from Pottery Barn and not a personal private designer! I am crazy for that blue lamp!! Have fun!

  22. This place is so cool it would drive me batty! I wouldn't know where to look. It's really fun to be doing your bedroom and having a clean palette to work with -- fabrics and furniture and the whole nine yards! Love it!

Poor Chili. I hope Chowdah isn't giving grief. I do like the rehabilitation ensemble. The knotted thing near the rump is a nice touch and the blue is so pretty with the cone!

  23. Kathleen and Suzanne need to find a spot for that pretty chest. It would look so pretty in your bedroom! I can't wait to see your pretty bedroom reveal!

  24. Katie, Schumacher is one of my favorite fabric brands. I have always loved celery green with blue and white. I can’t wait to see what you decide on. I was an interior decorator until I retired.

  26. The color of your bedroom walls is pretty amazing, so I'm glad you're keeping it. What a fun day at the Design Center! I wonder if they have one in Seattle?

  27. What a fun time in the design center and I can't wait to see the end result. I hope Chili recovers soon.

  28. Good Lord what a marvellous place! I was getting more excited as I scrolled. Firstly - the colour on your walls, a wonderful wedgewood blue - no wonder you wanted to design around it. The Schumacher swatches were lovely - I am edging to smaller prints at the moment and loved those the best (wanting to rip my larger ones off the walls). The Design Centre was a dream! Love the painting of the Welsh Springer Spaniel. Also the installation of the four poster - I had never thought about using that bronze colour with teal but it works really well in moderation. I would LOVE to visit that place. The books of course are a huge draw. Would have to enjoy the content though - would never buy just for d├ęcor - are you the same with books? Joanne x
