A Lake Filled Hodgepodge

Good morning, dear friends.  I hope that you have had the same gorgeous weather that we are experiencing.  What a way to begin the Summer.

If it's Wednesday, it's time for Hodgepodge.

1.  If you could sit beside and/or jump in any lake in the whole wide world today, which lake would you choose and why?

The only lake I would be interested in is Lynchwood Lake at what was formerly Camp Tegawitha in Tobyhanna, Pa.  It would bring back so many wonderful memories of my camp days.

Go WHITES!!!

2.  What's you favorite 'fruity' drink?

I gave this question a lot of thought.  I could never turn my nose up to a good Bloody Mary.

Hotel Madeline
Telluride, CO

I'll take one of these and make it a double.

3.  I read a list here of thirteen things to do right now to simplify your life.  They were:  clean as you go, re-evaluate your relationships (cut toxic ties), unsubscribe (too many blogs and websites), de-clutter, write down your daily goals, reply to emails right away, forget multitasking, create a morning routine, re-evaluate your commitments (which hobbies and responsibilities are most important to you), say no, clean up your computer, and plan your day ahead.

Which of the tasks listed do you currently find most helpful in keeping life simple?  Which item on the list should you adopt in order to simplify your life this month?

Could you repeat the question?

My head still hurts from thinking about the last question.

4.  What did you do the summer after you graduated from high school?

I worked at Read's department store as a floater.  My favorite area was cosmetics.  I think I spent more time making up my own face than anyone else's.

5.  Are you a fan of podcasts?  If so, what's a favorite?

Thanks to my girls, I listened to Serial and enjoyed it.  I haven't listened to a podcast since then.

6.  Do you think today's fathers have it harder, easier, or just different than fathers in the past?

I think the same thing when I am serving my Mister dinner.

Now that women are major players in the workforce, it lessens the pressure of being the sole breadwinner for the man.  However, he needs to brush up his skills in the laundry room.

7.  Tell us one way you're like your father?  Or not at all like your father if that's easier?

My father considers himself the bon vivant of his assisted living facility.  I describe myself as a supermodel, trophy wife.

Would you be interested in buying a ticket into our dream world?

8.  Insert your random thought here.

Southern Charm followers:

Whaaaaaaaaaat???
I have never seen anybody go from 0 to 180 in less than 2 seconds like Thomas!  He had to have been mixing his alcohol with something.  If I were him, I wouldn't show my face in public ever again.

On another note...
to balance out my trashy taste in TV.

The other night, I watched a very sad episode of Monarch of the Glen, and I still get teary-eyed thinking about it.  I positively adore this show.

What's the one thing you do to simplify your life?

Until next time...

After watching Monarch of the Glen, I told the Mister that I want to add a Springer Spaniel to our family so I can name him "Useless."  He told me we already have two that deserve that title.
I told you, he's a regular Jerry Seinfeld.

  2. We have Springers in our life and they give you the sweetest looks with those soulful eyes. I think most any dog even those make constant messes make life better though.

I am like you...the list to simplify your life makes me tired looking at it. I skim over those things all the time and mostly ignore. I just try to stay at the tasks and every now and then take big loads of stuff to Goodwill.

  3. Great to start the day with a few giggles. That is one huge bloody mary! Yeah, those simplify questions drove me insane! I would get too stressed out before I finished the list. I guess simplicity is not my thing. Enjoy your day!

  4. So what you're saying is the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, right? I'll have to start watching Monarch again, but it isn't as fun without Hector. Springer spaniels are wonderful. That's what Jazzie is, that and border collie. Great combo.

  5. I was going to say a bloody mary too - but then thought it was more a "vegetable drink" than a fruity one. I love "Southern Charm" but missed it the other night. So, T-Rav went ballistic? Hmmm. I am not surprised! The guy has issues (thank god... because he makes the show so fun to watch!! ha)

  6. I did tell you that my hubby attended he Citadel in Charleston, SC with Thomas? What's strange is that he never wears his Citadel class ring and that's something ALL graduates are very proud of-my hubby is never without his. He makes such a fool of himself on that show...acts too much like a frat boy, if you ask me.

  7. I absolutely loved Monarch of the Glen! You'll have to check out Ballykissangel if you haven't already.

  9. We garnish our Jack and Gingers with a lemon slice. In my reality that qualifes as a fruit drink. My English neighbor (now retired to Spain) introduced me to Monarch of the Glen. Love it!

  10. Simplifying isn't in the picture at all for me this summer. It's more like, "what can I do to complicate my life?" Ahhh . . . at least your Bloody Mary photo looked good to me and gave me a great idea.
    Happy mid-week to you!

  11. Yeah, what was up with Thomas last night? He seemed sober until the meltdown. Looks like he has hopped on the crazy train with Kathryn.
I inherited my sweet-tooth, tidiness and love of sports from my dad.
The summer after high school I was a counselor at an overnight camp in PA (not Tegawitha though)- fun!

  12. I love a Bloody Mary that doubles as a meal! I have fabulous summer camp memories too : )

  13. I also have a Useless in my family, but he is cute as a button and can sleep about anywhere! I tried a Bloody Mary, but not my drink. I'd rather do wine, which is made from grapes and grapes are fruit...score! Oh and I also scored with LT who does his own laundry and can run a vacuum! Double score! Love your answers as always!

  14. I love Hodgepodge Wednesdays! Katie if you like Serial, you HAVE TO listen to the "Undisclosed" podcast- it is an extension of Adan's story done by the woman, Rabia Chaudry, who brought this to Serial's attention, much more in depth and more personal.

  18. Fruity drinks at home: wine (as Laura H. reasoned above) or maybe a hard lemonade in the summer. Fruity drinks while on vacation: pina colada or something similar.
I probably inherited my love of reading from my father, and my love of cats. Unfortunately I also probably inherited some not so great qualities that I try hard to carry on. I think today's "new dads" have it harder, but are so much more a part of their children's lives than they used to be, so it's a good thing. -Jenn

  19. I love a little Mimosa now and then! My Dad and I love to share jokes. He gets a real kick out of it when I sign cards to him "From Your Favorite Twin." Luckily, my twin never sees those cards!

Southern Charm was wild the other night -- T-Rav was in rare form! Have a great weekend!

  20. I do not drink cocktails only too much wine! I do admit to watching Southern Charm. It is getting a little out of hand however. I told my husband I watch it because of the architecture...he doesn't believe me...

  21. Thomas......You've lost your grip! Monarch of the Glen is one of my favorite shows, but I have to admit at times their accent is so strong I have to keep rewinding. But of course my husband is from Boston and I can't understand him either! I cut a toxic relationship a few years back and it was the best thing I've ever done, my family thanks me!! My goal today is to make a goal for cleaning out the clutter. Thanks Katie!

  22. I love these! I have a feeling you are having slightly better weather than we are in the heat advisory of Texas. I'm sure you don't miss that at all. Ugh! It's a sauna out there!
I jumped on the Southern Charm train a little late and am just started season two. That show is crazy addicting. I love it!

  23. Oh Monarch of the Glen, how I've missed you. I know EXACTLY the episode to which you are referring, Sis. Have to say the latter seasons didn't quite do it for me. Different characters. *** Spoiler Alert*** = It has remained a mystery to me what happened to the son ... My sister-in-law had a Springer. Her name was originally Triska and when they adopted her, they changed it to Triska-Jane. Lovely girl. Very smart. They trained her in less than 30 mins to bring me a beer - I mean soda - from the wading pool/cooler.

  24. Agree Southern Charm getting a little out of hand. Hey, not shocked someone called out golden boy Shep for having a mailbox job (or something like that, checks show up in the mailbox from mom.) Enjoy your blog as always. Great and funny graphics.

  25. I'd prefer a fruity fruit drink! :) I look like my dad (he died when I was 10) and my college son is a clone of him. As far as Thomas, I think you nailed it. He couldn't have been just drinking. I heard somewhere (who knows what reliable source!) that he and Kathryn have to submit to drug testing for their co-parenting. Hmmmmm..... I like to stay on top of these important issues!!

  26. I kept wondering as I looked through the post what law of physics was making that Bloody Mary stand upright. To simplify my life, I just stay home and don't answer phones and email -- I just get a book and read. This is not hard to do in this heat, that is as long as the wine doesn't run out.

  27. Loving all of your Hodge Podge today! Now THAT'S a Bloody Mary and Southern Charm was something this week - T Rav was certainly in rare form...but of course, I'll be watching next week! Happy weekend, my friend!

  28. Hi Katie,

I have read all your blog posts and enjoy your book reviews. I am a retired teacher, and to be totally honest am rather shallow. I have loved Southern Charm, Monarch of the Glen, Doc Martin, and especially From Lark Rise to Candleford. I lived in London for a year in the 80's so I am particularly fond of things set in the UK. Enough of my history. Anyway I have read all your reviews and would love it if you could pick your top three must read books for me. I recently read The Summer before the War, The Kingmaker's Daughter, The Husband's Secret, The Boston Girl, and The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend. My favorite book in the past year was Mary Coin. If you haven't read it you should. So what are your top three must read books for me? Thanks so much!!!!

  31. Love Monarch of the Glen! As for the bloody mary, I'll skip the drink and eat the little burger, yummy. Hope you are enjoying NC, happy Fathers day to your dad and husband.
