The Envelope Please...

Hello dear friends.  My fashion correspondent, Dude, kept my phone buzzing last night with her critique on the dresses at the Emmys.  The first four pics were Dude's favorites.

Camilla Alves
Love it!

Taylor Schilling
Gorgeous dress.

Allison Williams
Dude liked this one.  Me, not so much.

JLD
Gorgeous!

Julianna Rancic
Best she ever looked at an awards show.  #1 did not care for her hair.

Sophia Vergara
Va va va vooooom!

Kerry Washington
Dude described this dress as "awesome."
I think it is more like "yucksome."

Kate Walsh
I'm not crazy about the yellow but the cut of the dress is pretty.  Bet it's hard to use the ladies room in this one.

 Julia Roberts
I think Julia looked fabulous.
Her legs are great - why not showcase them?

Christine Baransky
This is a beautiful, age appropriate dress and looks great on her.

Viola Davis
Another gorgeous age appropriate dress.

Halle Berry
She'd look good in a paper bag.

Debra Messing
Stunning!

Kristen Wiig
Lovely!  I usually don't care for her dresses, but this one is a knock-out!

Lena Headley
My favorite!
But lose the tats....

Lena Dunham

If my mother was still alive, she would say "that girl goes out of her way to look homely."

And now... the Mister's comments from the peanut gallery.

Allison Janney
Nice drapes!

Hayden Panetiere
Jiffy pop!

What were your favorite dresses?

Hope you have a star-studded day!

  1. I was really disappointed in ALL the outfits. Lena Headley's won hands down!

  2. I am right with you on the picks, many did disappoint me and Lena Dunham...WHY???

  3. This was fun.....I only got to see a tiny bit of it..bummer. Sofia always looks amazing, so glamorous I pretty much agreed with you on every point but Juliana the hair is horrid, she is so not meant to be blonde and is way to skinny it is just not attractive, but she does normally wear clothes well, Kerry's dress OMG?? Normally she is so spot on! And Lena's dress leaves me speechless.....no words. Thanks for the round up and reminding me that its not so bad that I had to miss the show:)

  4. I loved the top dress on Camilla, and my husband agreed with you on your favorite - including the comment on the tats! I didn't like the color of Haley Berry's dress, so she only looked perfect instead of incredibly perfect.
    Good calls!

  5. Jiffy Pop....I'm dying laughing over here...but he's right, it does look like Jiffy Pop! I love, love, love that first dress, she looks stunning. The purple "drapes"....what the ???? And the Lena Dunham get-up.....that's stupid ugly as my son would say!

I don't watch the awards so thanks Katie for showing me what I missed!

  6. Some daring looks here and why does everyone want to be a blonde? We think Julia Roberts wins the prize for best dressed...

  7. You want an opinion, here you go. You might regret asking...

Camilla Alves - Love it. She always looks so classic with a twist.

Taylor Schilling - The fabric is pretty; that's about it. It looks like it was thrown on her with holes cut out for the arms and head, and something tied around her waist.

Allison Williams - Not feeling it. Whimsy, but not great.

JLD - Loved it. Needs to do something with her hair.

Julianna Rancic - Pretty gown, but Duke's mom needs a sandwich, to do something with her hair, and to tone down the bronzer.

Sophia Vergara - Loved it. I am sure Joe did too!

Kerry Washington - Disappointing. She usually nails it, but not this time

Kate Walsh - Love her gown!! The peplum is fabulous. The yellow does not bother me because she is one of the few people who can wear it successfully.

Julia Roberts - My favorite...hands-down!! I do wish her hair were up though.

Christine Baransky - Love this as well. Fits her personality; her hair color is gorgeous!

    Viola Davis - Awesome Color

Halle Berry - Do...not...like! It might have something to do with the fact that I do not like her at all.

Debra Messing - This dress does nothing for her figure. It makes her look like a stick.

Kristen Wiig - Pretty gown, but the tatas need some support. Not a fan of the black shoes.

    Lena Headley - Okay. Just...okay

Lena Dunham - Needs an "honest" (meaning: "BLUNT") friend and a mirror because whomever told her THAT looked good...well, they lied! Should have stayed at home and scouted out a good stylist, make up artist, and hair stylist.

Allison Janney - Pretty color, and I love velvet, but not this...

    Hayden Panetiere - Very pretty.

  9. I heard Julia Roberts had the prettiest - her dress was short and blue but I really didn't care for it! I love the first one - so classic.

  10. My dear friend as usual your analysis of the situation is spot on!!! I wish Julia Roberts would tone down her hair; it does nothing for her complexion.... just wrong! However, I do LOVE her dress! Been away on & off for the last 2 1/2 weeks. Can't wait for our lunch! Hugs, Dawn

  11. You nail it! In my opinion, Lena Dunham has taken a page out of the old Kathy Griffin book. Remember the days when she was always the worst dressed. She explained it by saying she knew she wouldn't make best dressed and people only talk about the best and the worst. In Hollywood, it doesn't matter what they're saying as long as they're talking about you :)

  12. Where is the elegance and sophistication of an era gone by? Bring back Grace and Audrey. To me, none of these ladies truly look happy, WEll, maybe Miss Jiffy Pop.

  13. Loved the update. Orange dress...go Vols! I don't know 75 percent if these stars. I think Halle's was my favorite. Or JLD cause I love her. Funny comments. Reminds me of a Project Runway critique.

  14. Totally..the same as your...for beauty and not so much!! (Oh and by the way your mother would have been right!)

    Blessings,
    Gert

  15. Katie

You were pretty spot on for the most part but it was a true Depends moment when I read Mister's comments, Drapes and Jiffy Pop, LOL ! Maybe we need a truly male perspective one show? Still wiping away the tears . . .

  16. I'm so late to the party here! JLD's dress was my favorite. I'm with Dude on Allison Williams's dress (although I have no idea who she is) and with you on Kerry Washington. She is so stunningly gorgeous but I think her dress made her look boxy. Plus I love orange but there is a time and place for everything. Just didn't work for me. Also, Lena Dunham tries too hard to be outrageous in everything she does. I'm not a fan.
I nearly fell over laughing over the Mister's characterization of Hayden's dress. Yes, a pregnant belly + textured metallic = jiffy pop.
