April Books,TV, & Movies

Hello, dear friends.  Happy Friday!  I hope that you all had a wonderful week.  The Mister and I have a weekend filled with errands and catch-up chores for Spring.

Here are some books that have caught my eye this month.

If I were a betting woman, I would wager that The Beautiful Strangers will be on my Top 10 Best Reads list for 2019.  The characters captured my heart.  It didn't hurt that the setting was at the Hotel del Coronado, either.

Btw... this is a Kindle Unlimited book which I think is the best deal in town.  For less than ten buckaroos a month you have access to thousands of Kindle as well as Audible books.

I listened to this one thanks to Kindle Daily Deals.  It started off strong but seemed to drag towards the end.

This suspense novel moved quickly and served many twists and turns.  The characters were well-rounded as well as believable.

I'm midway through this one.
The jury is still out.

Robert Dugoni wrote my favorite book of 2019, The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell.  I'm presently listening to this legal thriller, of which he has written many in this genre.  It moves quickly and has kept my interest so far.

This is my free book choice from Amazon First Reads.  Haven't started it yet.

This book with the stunning cover is described as The Devil Wears Prada meets Mad Men.  It takes place in 1965 and captures all the glamour of NYC.

This sounds like my kind of read.

This novel takes place in 1957.  It centers around a couple of honeymooners who get carried away by an eccentric, glamorous crowd.
I love the author's name, btw.

This book is written by the author of the best selling hit, The Lilac Girls. If you read it, Caroline's mother and her lifelong friendship with a Russian woman during the WWI era is the subject of this one.
I smell another hit...

I only hope that the story is appealing as the cover.
This book is fiction but features a real person who was an editor.
There is a big hint as to the mystery person sitting on the desk.

A woman struggles with her mother's legendary notoriety.
I'm downloading it on Audible when it is released on Tuesday.  Jojo Moyes is one of my favorite authors.

A pain in the neck mother-in-law dies and leaves a suicide note saying she had advanced cancer.  The coroner disagrees with the diagnosis and finds poison in her system.
DIL:  take my advice.
Run for the hills!!

I still haven't gotten to Next Year In Havana which was a big hit last year.  I do have it downloaded though and look forward to reading it.  This one will be released on Tuesday.

This is one of the Mister's favorite authors.

This one sounds like my life story.
Don't tell Sista I said that.
Btw: I have enjoyed all of Burke's books, and this one looks especially enticing.

Wait... whaaaat?
The author of Shades of Grey wrote a book about the Mister?

I wonder if I'm mentioned.
Seems to me, I spent my share of time keeping the principal company.

This book has to be good.
I loved the Cathy comic strip.

She looks like she only eats once a week.

This looks like pure, raw, unadulterated eye candy between two covers.

Next month, my buddy Kristy's fabulous book is being released.  I have an advanced copy which I am saving for a very long flight that I have in my future.

Let me begin by saying that I loved this show.  But it is definitely not for everybody.  If you enjoy Ricky Gervais' humor, you will feel the same way I did about the show.  However, if you don't appreciate Ricky, this show will not make you like him.

The Mister liked this one.
I was just so-so.

Trailer

This is another one that the Mister appreciated.
I say - don't quit your day job, Doc Martin.

We are watching this on Amazon Prime.
I am loving every blessed minute of this fabulous series.

My favorite guilty pleasure is coming back on April 7th.

Trailer

There's only one movie that I am interested in seeing.

Do you have any recommendations for me?

Until next time...

Music, Movies, and Memories

Hello, dear friends.  It seems like forever since I last posted.  As I filled you in last week, our kitchen was out of commission due to the floor being refinished.

We sent Chowdah off to camp for several days while crazy pants Chile stepped into the role of my perpetual shadow.

Here's a rundown on how we spent our time.

We worked out every morning.

Chili wanted to stop by her home-away-from-home, Ulta, to pick up a new lip gloss to match her down vest.  As usual, she pulled out her diva attitude, and the sales lady finally threw her hands up and told her that she was on her own.
Can you spell embarrassing?

We also stopped by Sea World.  At least that's what I told Chili it was so she would have something to tell her friends after Spring Break.
In reality, it was the car wash.

We drove to Connecticut for a wonderful birthday party.  Chili started whining on the way back telling me that I should turn her over because she claimed that she had bed sores.
Such a drama queen.

Lastly, Chili confirmed our suspicions.  After sleeping with us for four very long nights, we now know for sure that Chili is a confirmed night owl.  While we attempted to sleep, she continued to indulge herself in roundabouts through the bedroom with frequent crawls under the bed.  We finally put a leash on her and held her on the bed.  She must have enjoyed that because every 20 minutes she would pounce on us with joy.

What a nightmare.
It's no wonder she sleeps all day.

Enough about me.  I know that you've checked your calendar and realized that it is National Film Score Day.  I am linking up with Terri, who writes the questions and her fellow bloggers answer them.

1.  Let's talk about film scores/songs.  What is the first one that you thought about when you saw today's subject?

The first one that comes to mind is Funny Girl.  I knew every word to every song on the album frontward, backward, and sideways.

If you don't agree that this is one of the best scores ever written, don't rain on my parade.

2.  Do you remember the first movie you ever saw on the "big screen?"  Would you tell us about it?

At Christmastime, Radio City Music Hall used to present a Christmas show.  They still might.  One of the highlights of the show was my Dad's favorite act, The Rockettes.  After they kicked up a storm, a movie would be premiered.  The year that my parents took me Charade was being shown.

My six-year-old self fell completely in love with Cary Grant.  On the train ride home back to Connecticut, I whispered to my Mom that I was going to marry Cary Grant someday.

Unfortunately for him, our paths never crossed.

3.  Who is your favorite female movie star?  Who is your favorite male movie star?  Go ahead and list more than one if you must.

Meryl Streep is my number 1 favorite actress.  I remember seeing her in one of her first films, Kramer vs. Kramer.  I cried my eyes out.

Whenever I watch Diane Keaton in a movie, I find myself smiling.  I'll go to see anything that she is in even if the flick was panned by the critics.

If I don't mention my first husband, I'll hear about it.  He is a very loyal follower of my blog and reads it every chance he gets when you-know-who (rhymes with Bamal) is not around.

The most underrated actors in Hollywood in my humble opinion are Christian Bale and Ed Harris.

4.  How about those old black & white movies!  Which one do you always stop and watch, even just a little, when channel surfing?

Not so much black and white films, but here are four in-living-color flicks that freeze my finger on the flicker.

5.  Is there a movie quote that makes you laugh or one that you repeat often in life that you can share with us?  Will we know what movie it comes from without you telling us?

If you don't know what movie this is from, you've got to get out more.

6.  Please share something random about your week with us.

On Friday I am off to the Cape to spend some time with my buddy, Jill.  I'm so glad that she moved from Texas.

I'll also be catching up on my sleep.

This cartoon captures the essence of every conversation my Sista and I have had for the past ten years.

Until next time...

The hooligans promised me that there will be no more disco dancing at night.
I'm not confident enough to take the floor guys off speed dial.
