A Stormy Hodgepodge

Hello, dear friends.  I am writing this with a famous visitor on his way.  His name is Jose, and he comes without an invitation.  His entourage has not fully arrived, but already he is making a big splash on the Cape.

A certain someone has been on her "happy" pills since yesterday.

*****

Not even a silly old tropical storm can keep me from my beloved Hodgepodge.

1.  What's something you'd rate a 10/10?  Tell us why.

This answer tells you a lot about me.  How much do I love Amazon, let me count the ways.

* I can buy practically anything with the click of a button.  I don't have to fill out address forms or credit card info.

* Because I am a Prime member, I can get free shipping on almost everything.

*  I get a free kindle book the first of every month that is due to be released the following month.

*  I usually forget that I ordered something so when the Amazon box arrives with my name on it, I may not know what's in it, but I know I will love it.

*  I can shop in my jammies.

2.  What job would you be terrible at?

What makes you think so?

I could never be a skyscraper window washer for two reasons.
The first one is that I am terrified of heights.
The second reason is that I always leave streaks on the windows.

Who am I kidding?
I've never done a window in my life.

3.  When did you last take a fall?

Three days after we moved into our current house I fell down the porch steps.  The last step was a rickety old rock.  The Mister had it replaced within the week because he lost sleep worrying about my safety.  It was either that, or he couldn't stand to hear me whine anymore.

It was the last time I wore my favorite shoes to take the trash out.

What's something you're falling for (in a good way) these days?

I'm falling in love with the main character in the book I am currently reading, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine.  I am only halfway through with this novel, and I never want it to end.  Little by little, the reader learns more about Eleanor, her childhood, and what has led her to become the regimented, quirky, lonely person that she is and you can't help but fall for her.

4.  According to the Travel Channel, here are some of America's best Fall festivals-

National Apple Festival (near Arendtsville, Pa) Harvest on the Harbor (Portland Maine), German Village Festival (Columbus OH) , Wellfleet Oyster Festival (Cape Cod), and Wine and Chile Fiesta (Santa Fe)

Have you ever been to any of the festivals listed?  Which one appeals to you most?  Does your hometown have any sort of Fall celebration, and if so, will you make it a point to attend?

I've been to a few Fall Festivals, and I see an Oyster Fest in my future.

5.  What is your goodbye message to Summer?

6.  Insert your own random thought here.

A couple of weeks ago, my friend Lea over at Cici's Corner mentioned how delicious Halo Top Ice Cream is as well as being low cal.  They put the calorie count for the WHOLE pint on the carton.  This is absolutely genius for people like me.  Whenever I eat something delicious, I check the packaging for the calorie count for a single serving and then multiply that amount of servings that are in a container.  The calorie count is always a large one and that magic number is my worse case scenario

But under 400 calories of delicious ice cream for a whole pint?

Hallelujah!

My prayers have been answered.

Until next time...

  2. I had no idea about Kohl's accepting Amazon returns! How convenient because I hate repackaging returns! I am going to check out that book. I am always looking for good ones...Stay safe in these storms. What a crazy season this has been. My heart is breaking for the Caribbean!

  3. I keep trying Halo Top and I just can't get past the texture😢I wish so much that I liked it, because everyone else seems to love it. And the flavors all sound delicious. I have found a fat free key lime pie flavor ice cream at our local ice cream shop that I am seriously addicted to😀

  4. I really want to try Halo Top but I read an article online, written by a Doctor, that advised about not eating it. He did not think it was healthy and could cause digestive problems. Has anyone else heard this? It's made me so reluctant to try it. I do however love Amazon Prime.

    1. I can't vouch for the healthiness of Halo however I figure regular ice cream isn't exactly the pinnacle of health either :-P. I can say that I haven't had digestive issues with it and I have some lactose intolerance. Some flavors are better than others though. I remember I found Birthday Cake, Vanilla and Mint Chip lacking. But I thought Carmel and Cookies and Cream were good. I hope that helps some.

  6. I am such a visual person, so always look forward to your graphics and accompanying humor. You are a delight! Thanks for the compliment on my butterfly pics. I was so pleased with them myself. It is amazing to see them so close up and the smallest details enhanced. Trusting your uninvited guest doesn't reek too much havoc on your area and that Maria doesn't follow in its wake.

  7. Sorry to hear that Jose is coming to visit, his cousin Irma stopped by here last week. Amazon is my favorite place in the world.

  8. YESSSS to Amazon! I basically buy 90% of my life on there.
I've heard so much about that book. I may have to check it out myself

  10. Prayers for your part of the country Katie. These storms are getting to be a new normal. I would not make a sky scraper anything...I am so terrified of heights that I refuse to get on a ladder.:)

  11. I love Halo ice cream! I especially love that I can eat the whole thing...wait, I always eat the whole thing no matter the calories. Ha! We are watching Maria now since Jose was kind enough to skip us. Hopefully, Maria will go out to sea and die. Yes, harsh words but I hate hurricanes. It will be oyster roast season around here in a few months, we prefer them in cold weather. We'll be hosting one for New Year's Eve. I love oyster roasts but cannot stand oysters. Go figure. Enjoyed your answers as always!

  12. I am sorry to hear the hurricane is coming your way. They are a pain in the butt so stock up on some comfort food, maybe a few pints of that ice cream. I have not tried it yet but I will be on the lookout.

I cannot wait to read that book, I am cuttingly reading The Childbury Ladies Choir.

Have a great day Katie and thanks for the laugh.

  13. Katie! I love your blog! The Hodgepodge brought me over. Your sense of humor is great, as well as your insertion of appropriate photos for your topics.

LOVE your header -- is it a rendition of your home? Enjoy it to the fullest!

I have subscribed to your blog so I can read more about your adventures -- and your pups! I must not leave them out in my comments! They are PRECIOUS!

  14. Love Amazon too and now my girl knows about it and also loves it! :) I'm sure it was an oversight, but the Applejack Festival in Nebraska City, Nebraska was last weekend!

Love seeing your posts again -- you were missed and I'm just catching up!

  15. I love a good Hodgepodge, and I certainly love good ice cream! I will be heading to Central Market to buy some Halo Top! I'd be at the Oyster Festival if I lived there, but the Santa Fe Festival sounds great as well. Amazon Prime delvers here as well. In my previous life on Kerbey Lane, I was a fanatic about washing the porch windows.
Don't let Jose in. Tell him to go away. Far away out to sea where he belongs!

  16. What a fun read, enjoyed this so much! Enjoy your new found ice cream, i will be checking it out too!Thank you for visiting and for your thoughtful comment.

  17. I've been thinking about you and Jose and my beloved Vineyard and Nantucket and all out there. Stay safe and cozy, OK? I heard it might not hit mainland but the islands are still in jeopardy. At least that was a few hour ago. Who knows now?

  18. That's great to hear about Kohl's accepting Amazon returns! Jose needs to go away! Stay safe! I'm concerned about a friend in Montauk. I would love to attend the Oyster Festival. I'll have to settle for the Remsen Arts and Craft Festival on Main Street. It's wonderful when the weather cooperates which it will this weekend.

  19. Hopefully Jose will fly by quickly....I have been to the Oyster Fest and the Scallop Fest in Bourne (and I don't eat either), however they are fun)....I will try that ice cream...by the looks of the comments, you should get a kick back form the company!!

  20. I pray you stay safe during "Jose"! What a hurricane season this is turning out to be!!!
I've never seen that brand of ice cream, but I'd definitely like to try it!
I enjoyed reading your answers. They're always entertaining :)

  21. Halo Top is amazing! I like the Chocolate Peanut Butter and Cookies and Cream!

    I love Amazon, too!

Hope Jose doesn't cause you any problems!

  22. So everytime the UPS or USPS comes, I know it because of camera's and they are so clear, I can even see the famous Amazon tape on the box! Ahh, festivals are fabulous! Lets just say, I see it a lot, lol!! Praying Jose doesn't not interrupt the Cape!!!

  23. I love Amazon as well! I honestly do not know how I shopped before Amazon came into being! Thanks for visiting my blog today!

  24. I fell in love with Elinor too! I did not want that book to come to an end. Such a wonderful character. Have you read The Quality of Silence by Rosamund Lupton? The main character Ruby steals your heart and is another one I fell in love with this past year. The book is not light in the way Elinor Oliphant is, but I loved it too. Very different sort of story setting.

  25. We are quite over the hurricanes in our neck of the woods. Keeping all affected or in the path in prayer. We prefer NadaMoo over Halo Top.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh, I could have so said Amazon for my 10/10, what was I thinking? I am addicted to Amazon and go there first for anything I want/need. It's amazing! And, I just bought Oatmeal Cookie Halo yesterday and it is sooooo good. So glad you are enjoying it!

    ReplyDelete
  27. That sounds like an interesting book. Oliphant is one of the surnames in my family tree. :)

It makes sense for them to put the calorie count for the whole pint on there. Buy a pint, eat a pint. Isn't that the rule? haha

Amazon is great! If they get the grocery prices down to a decent level, then I won't have to leave the house. :)

    Have a blessed week!

    ReplyDelete
  28. We love us some Amazon. If ever they get their grocery prices under control, we may get to where we never leave the house. We're in the process of installing a larger mailbox now so that the mailman can leave larger packages. We're even on a first name basis with our mailman - Patrick. The UPS dude knows exactly where to leave any packages. Have a great week.

  29. Well, I'll be looking for that ice cream!!

  30. Stay dry my friend! We are still recovering from Jose's big sissy who visited a few weeks back. Nasty! Hope you keep your power because blogging by battery pack and candlelight is nail biting!-Laurel

  31. You are so fun, Katie, and we think alike. I LOVE Amazon, and like you I'm often surprised, especially when I do that late night ordering. When the boxes come to the door, I always tell my husband it is something for the dogs...meds, new leashes or collars---it goes right over his head no matter the size. :)))

I hope you stay safe and warm. The magnitude of the hurricanes, and the earthquake in Mexico is so, so upsetting. I'm doing all I can with affordable donations ...it takes a village.

  32. We had seen a crawler on the news channel re: Kohl's taking returns for Amazon....it'll take a while before it ever hits Podunk, I'm sure. Lol....window washing....that's the main reason why I liked the option of not having a shower door! I sure hope Jose doesn't wreck the NE coast. I just realized this week Sandy was a category 1 and look at its wreckage! Take care.

  33. We are sailing away Friday from NYC so we'll be wedged in between José and Maria. If the ocean swells get to be too much I'll be getting off in Boston and not getting back on! I can hardly remember what shopping online was like before Amazon. Instant gratification! Window washing...no way José! Linda

  34. Amazon is a really good friend of mine, sending me presents all the time!. I will have to check out the ice cream, sounding yummy even in the early AM. Jose, go away, far, far away.......Stay cozy and safe, hope the sun shines this weekend.........hugs.

  35. I have been patiently waiting for Eleanor Oliphant to be returned to my local library but someone is being awfully stingy by taking their sweet time! Three years ago, when my youngest went off to college, I treated myself to a trip to the Cape Cod area. I went to Wellfleet, MA and had a great time! There's also a restaurant there called the Wicked Oyster that you cannot afford to miss! Another must to visit is the Wellfleet Bookstore and Restaurant. Stay dry and safe!

    1. Jennifer.. thx so much for giving me the tips about Wellfleet. We've never been there before. Will def check out the bookstore as well as the restaurant. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment!!

  36. I'm glad that Jose veered east a bit, but unfortunately it stalled of the coast of New England.
I tried Halo once. It reminded me of angel food cake - which is light and airy and good - but can't replace a slice of rich chocolate case.
    Have an enjoyable weekend.

  37. Amazon!!! I couldn't survive without Amazon prime!! We have a Shrimp Festival every October on the coast and it's total fun, but not fallish at all...then there's a scarecrow festival which is a hoot, everyone makes their own scarecrow all over a local park and it's such a fun creative celebration. I just ordered a sample sent to my kindle of the book, thanks Katie!

  38. I'm with you on Amazon as it helps me find just what I need in all situations and is great for buying surprise gifts for my beloved. I nearly put down highrise window cleaners for my job as we recently watched some men doing this and just seeing them makes me nervous.
    Have a great day.

  39. We have been to the Oyster Festival several times, the food is fantastic and they have Chardonnay!!!

I was very depressed and desperate to win back my husband and I searched on GOOGLE for help about my situation and I got recommended to Lord Zakuza who is a powerful spell caster for he has so many magnificent testimonies and reviews on the internet from different people all over the world. I got in touch with him and I poured out my sorrowful heart to him and he encouraged and promised to help me out. He gave me some instructions of which a adhered to and within 48 hours of contacting Lord Zakuza my attorney called me to get me informed that the divorce case has been cancelled and I got a call from my husband 30 minutes after I finished speaking to my attorney. My husband and I are so much in Love with endless care and happiness and I so much thank Lord Zakuza for doing this for me and I know people out there might also need their partner or lovers back or want to get pregnant for your partner or husband.
