Pretty In Pink

Hello, dear friends.  Baby, it's cold outside!  I kind of feel guilty about complaining since many of my friends out there have had more than their share of snow.

Did I ever tell you that the Mister proposed on Valentine's weekend?   If I already filled you in, you have my permission to scroll down the page and look at all the pretty pictures.

As Julie Andrews likes to sing... let me start from the very beginning.  When I was in my early 30's, I had worked at a dead-end job in the suburbs of Chicago.  I was in a dead-end relationship as well.

I decided to move back to Connecticut and look for a job.  I ended up as an admin for the General Manager of a hotel.  I loved my job - the people were great, and my boss was the best.

One of the guys I worked with, Brian, came up to me one day and said that a buddy of his was just hired.  He then informed me that I was going to marry him.  I smiled politely and told him that I would call my mother and tell her to put a hold on the Novenas.

Until her dying day, she had never stopped giving St. Anthony full credit for finding the Mister.

And taking me off her hands.

Fast forward a couple of weeks, and the Mister began working as the F&B Director at the hotel.  Did I mention that I was his admin too?  After about a month or so, the Mister said to me one night as I was leaving, since we're getting married, we might as well get to know each other.  We went out for a drink, and the rest is history.

One year later, we decided to go to NYC for Valentine's Day weekend. I was not expecting a ring because I thought that he would propose during a previously-scheduled trip to St. Martin in April.

We had a beautiful suite, and there was champagne chilling.  I didn't think much of it because he knew the GM at the hotel.  He poured us a glass of bubbly and then said he forgot something in his bag.  He came out with an old cardboard box that looked like it had seen better days.  He handed it to me, and before I knew it, I was looking at my beautiful ring.

He then told me that we needed to get ready because he had 8:00 reservations at the Rainbow Room to celebrate.  I just wanted to stay in the suite and stare at my ring.  As we walked into the restaurant, the Maitre d brought us to a table where Sista and her Mista and Brian and his wife were sitting.

After a fabulous dinner, we ended it with a ride in a horse-drawn carriage through Central Park.

Oh, what a night!

Enough with the romance... on with the shopping.

If you haven't guessed by now, today is all about pink in honor of Valentine's Day.

If you are not a pink fan, don't worry that pretty little head of yours.

A lot of these items come in a variety of colors.

Wow.  I don't know which one I need more.
This sweater or extensions.

I have this sweater in every color of the rainbow.
I like it because I can wear it under a blazer and there is no bulk.

I have this in off-white.
Love this color.

There is not one thing on the Tuckernuck site that I don't love.

I'm a huge fan of peplum.

I have this shirt in a couple of colors.

My #1 has this sweater in every color.

I'm in love.
Happy Valentine's Day to moi.

Oh, Mister... I picked out my Valentine's present.

Until next time...

I've got another NYC story for you.  A couple of years ago, the Mister and I went for a little getaway to the city.  It was a gorgeous Summer day on Fifth Avenue.  As we passed these two lovely ladies, one of them stopped us and said we recognized the Mister first.  They read my blog!  They introduced themselves as Mother and Daughter Marguerite and Margot from the great state of Louisiana.  They were so sweet and even recommended a restaurant for dinner that night, which we loved.

Here are some pics of Marguerite's fur babies.

Meet my Miniature Apricot Poodle, Peyton. He was rescued as a baby from a puppy mill. We drove to Chicago from our former home in Memphis to pick him up, and...ended up with his littermate, Eli, as a bonus. We couldn't leave a man behind.

These inseparable rascals were two halves of a whole.
Eli had the brains; Peyton had the looks.

When we lost Eli to cancer a couple of years ago, Peyton was lost and lonely.
Until...

My daughter adopted this bossy little Chiweenie named Tallulah.
So now...

Peyton is happy and content with his new partner in crime.

Thanks, Marguerite!

  6. What a great proposal story. He was (and is) a great catch! Stay warm this week. I think you brought this crazy cold weather with you from Massachusetts. After almost 30 years in Houston, I think this is the coldest I've ever seen it get here!

  12. I love your proposal story; it says a lot about your husband. I've never heard it before. That's the kind of story you want to repeat over the years.
"... put a hold on the Novenas." Hahahahaha for all the Catholic ladies.

  16. That is the most romantic love story ever! Just like a Hallmark movie! I have done that carriage ride through Central Park in the long ago, and there is nothing more romantic! Happy Valentine’s Day and as always, thanks for the shopping list. Every year about this time I start to crave color, so sat here in my grey tunic top and clicked away on a couple of your suggestions. The color I crave most in the dead of winter is hot pink so this was a bonanza! Cheers! 💝🥂

  17. Dear Katie, Your love story with the Mr. is lovely! Thank you for the cute pink items, they make me happy. I would love to see a photo of you wearing the pink cowboy boots, and now that you are a Texas resident again, you should get them :). I am a native Texan, have lived in Dallas since 1980, and this is the coldest weather that I can remember in decades. Compared to Massachusetts, it must make you laugh, but it is frigid! Happy Valentine's Day to you and the Mr. I love Peyton & Eli and those dear ladies from Louisiana. xo Sherry

  20. I love so many of those sweaters and coats! (Sometimes reading your blog is dangerous to my bank account.) :)

My sister just recently rescued a dog and I think it's a Chiweenie! She wasn't sure what it was, she's had chihuahuas before but never this kind! I'll have her look into it.

I also love the look of bulky sweaters but stay away from them.I am not over weight but all of my weight is upper body and I look like a football player in a big sweater. I will be interested to read your next blog about this past week. Hoping you had power. We were lucky and never lost ours....Janey
