Reading, Watching, & Listening

Hello, dear friends.  Did this week whip by, or what?  The beginning of the week brought lots of rain and chilly temps.  It's finishing strong, though.  Today and tomorrow promise to be nothing but sunshine.  Sunday and all next week are a whole different story.

On Mother's Day, my #2 stopped by for lunch and brought me the loveliest arrangement.  The Mister made salmon and a salad, which was positively delish.  It was a delightful day, so we sat out on the patio.  Our screens are arriving at the end of this month, and I can't wait.

Unfortunately, my #2 put a no photos sticker on the day.  She did, however, take the new profile pic of moi for the blog sans mask.

Speaking of masks, are you as excited as I am that we don't have to wear those pesty masks anymore?  I didn't mind wearing them half as much as remembering to put them on.  The Mister and I are going out for dinner to celebrate tonight. I'm going to apply extra lipstick for the occasion.

Every time I think that I have opened the last box, I find another one.  I spent a lot of my week driving back and forth to Good Will.  I'm on a first-name basis with most of the guys now.

We have had a delightful young man with us painting the bookshelves.  He is finishing up today and starting a couple of new projects next week for us.

Yesterday, Chili and I spent a lot of our time out on the patio for a couple of reasons. First, she has been having a few accidents in the house, and secondly, she likes to get up and personal with the painting supplies.
She tells me that she's supervising.
I say that she is micromanaging.

I finally broke down and bought some Wee Wee pads.
Unfortunately, Chili hasn't quite gotten the gist of it yet.

Here is a recap of what has been keeping me entertained lately.

A married couple is madly in love.
That's not the surprising part.
The husband disappears and leaves a note for his heartbroken wife, asking her to take care of his daughter.

A family dies on vacation, presumably by carbon monoxide poisoning.  The only survivor is their college-age son, who is left to our the pieces together.

Hepworth is a favorite author of mine.
This story centers around two sisters that were brought up by a psychotic mother.
A gotcha twist at the end.

This was my pick on Amazon First Reads.
As with all of Rouda's books, I enjoyed it.
It was suspenseful to the bitter end.

Nobody does it better than Joe, the love-sick, sarcastic, charming, pathological killer.  I found myself chuckling out loud at every one of Joe's clever, cutting quips.

I have loved all of Chanel Cleeton's novels, and this one is no exception.  Her books are well-written with rich, colorful characters.

I just started reading this.
Interesting storyline.

I just started listening to this one.
I am hot and cold on this author, but this one seems like a winner.

I bought this one as an Audible Daily Deal.
Do you check the deals?
I do every morning and have ended up with some great buys.

Speaking of good buys, do you know about Chirp?
If you like audiobooks, check this site out.
Great deals and no membership fee.

It’s November 1991. George H. W. Bush is in the White House, Nirvana's in the tape deck, and movie-obsessed college student Charlie Jordan is in a car with a man who might be a serial killer.

Four famous siblings throw an epic party to celebrate the end of the summer. But over the course of twenty-four hours, their lives will change forever.

The Hunting Wives share more than target practice, martinis, and bad behavior in this novel of obsession, seduction, and murder.

Just finished this one.
Quirky but entertaining.

We finished our first episode last night and loved it.

I enjoy this one a lot.

I end up in tears at the end of every episode.

They get crazier by the minute.

I can hardly wait for this one.
Nicky Hilton is joining the cast.

If you missed SNL last week, watch this post quarantine conversation.
Priceless!

I loved the book, so I'm hoping the movie is just as good.

This fun show is back for another season.

This is on my gotta see list.
Jennifer's ex is quite the looker.

* Trailer contains F word

Season two begins this month.
I haven't seen Season 1, but it looks cute, so I'll give it a whirl.

Michael Douglas is reunited with Kathleen Turner in the final season.
*The trailer contains foul language.

Until next time...

  2. Your house is coming along nicely. I hope you are done with boxes. What a lovely lunch of grilled salmon and a salad. You are so lucky to have your chef. I enjoy audio books. I recently read "You love me" with Joe. They also had a movie on Netflix I watched. I will soon read the sequel about Joe. Thanks so much for your sweet words from Rita's post. Happy weekend.

  3. Love your new photo. You look healthy and relaxed - especially for someone settling into a house! I chuckled about your extra lipstick remark as one of the benefits for me to wearing masks is that I don’t have to worry about how my lipstick looks and don’t have to worry if I just had coffee and didn’t brush my teeth! Your shelves are looking good and can’t wait to see the reveal. Thanks for all your recommendations. I’ve been watching Mare of Easttown and really enjoying it. Reading The Spies of Trilling Lane and then The Downstairs Girl but will look to one of your recs for the next, have a great weekend!

  4. I always look forward to reading your blog on Fridays! That salmon lunch your husband prepared looks amazing. Anyway you can share the recipe for the moulded couscous? farro?
and tomato side dish? It looks so delicious...I would LOVE to make that! Thanks in advance. I've been dieting and trying to add healthy recipes.

  5. We still have to wear masks here... I can not wait for them to go away! I loved the Kominsky Method and was hoping they'd be back for another season.

  6. Looks like your house is coming along. We are still required to wear masks here most places and I think only those of us who are fully vaccinated are able to go without masks. I'm wondering why your dinners always look so much better than the slop I throw together. LOL xo Laura

  7. Love all your reviews on things. Glad your Mother's Day was nice, you look rested in your new profile pic - I like it! Poor Chili. Let's hope her wanting to sleep on the pee pads is short-lived and she gets the memo, lol. I think the bookcases are going to look great. Have a nice weekend.

  8. The built ins are going to be so pretty with all that blue. I know you are chomping at the bit. Those screens should arrive just in time for mosquito season as cooler temps have been holding on much longer than usual. I am so excited to get rid of the masks. I even went out the other day lipstick shopping. WooHoo!

  10. I had no idea the Real Housewives shows were still on, I used to love those but quit watching as I got tired of bitchy women yelling at each other :) Your house is looking beautiful! Sorry about the wee wee pads, not fun...glad you had a lovely Mother's Day Katie, and thanks for all the reviews!
