Hodgepodge All Wrapped Up

Hello, dear friends.  How is your week going? Do you have all of your shopping done?  I'm pretty caught up.  It's fairly easy when you have a laptop at your fingertips and adult children and a husband that know what they want.

Today, I am back linking up with Hodgepodge answering hard-hitting questions posed by Joyce.  Feel free to leave your own answers - I always love to hear from you all.

 1. What's something about Christmas that most people like, but you don't? Elaborate.

Gift wrapping.
A three-year-old can wrap a package better than me. No matter how much time I invest, my gifts turn out looking like the masterpiece on the right.
It's not my fault - it's genetic.
My dear departed mother wrapped our gifts in tin foil.
To match our silver tree.

2. Tell us about one cherished tradition from your childhood, and if you will make it happen this year.

One cherished tradition that my family had when I was a child is setting cookies and milk out for Santa.
We also carried it on with our girls.

Much to Chowdah's and Chili's chagrin, we will not be baking for Santa this year.

Our second tradition was getting on each other's nerves.
That one we have been able to carry on throughout the years.

3. In 1941, FDR declared December 15th Bill of Rights Day. Citizens were encouraged to fly the flag and gather for prayers and other ceremonies as appropriate. Did you know this? Will you fly a flag? Can you name all the rights and protections guaranteed in the first ten amendments of the US Constitution? Of the ten, which two do you value most? If you need a list, you'll find one here.

4. Do you know someone named Bill?
Tell us something about him?

My Dad's name was Bill, later in life known as Wild Bill.
After my mother passed away, he became quite the bon vivant with an eye for the ladies around his Senior Living campus.
No one loved life as much as my dear old Dad.
He told us that he would live to be 100 years old.
He just made it with a couple of months to spare.

Is there a famous 'Bill' you'd like to meet?

I recently saw Billy Crystal interviewed, and he seemed like a great guy.
Besides, Harry Met Sally is one of my favorite movies.

5. A step in the right direction, on the right track, bragging rights, be in the right place at the right time, get off on the right foot, right as rain, right side up, give your right arm for, have one's heart in the right place...choose a 'right' that applies to your life in some way in recent days and tell us how it's so.

Do you see that circle on that weather map?
That is where we used to live.
This is the forecast for today and tomorrow.
My answer would have to be a step in the right direction.
That being the Southwest.

Insert your own random thought.

This is my new favorite thing.
If you are starting to spy a few grey hairs popping up in your brows, this tint kit works wonders.
It's a game-changer.

Need some gift inspiration?

I have some herehere, herehereherehere, here and here.

Until next time...

  1. Those lil tint capsules are brilliant. Aww your daddy...so handsome. I wish he would’ve made the triple digits. I do love to wrap. I miss the magic when the kids were small but I still try to create it. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  2. I bet you are glad you got to the southwest. It can be cold, but not that cold:)
    Always enjoy your answers.

  3. I have to admit, I'm terrible at wrapping gifts too. This year I did everything through Amazon and had it shipped direct to the girls. They will then wrap the boxes for the ones intended and open them on Christmas. My youngest did the same for us. So much easier.

  4. We used to set out cookies and milk when I was a kid. That is how I found out there wasn't a Santa. I woke up during the night and saw my dad eating the cookies and drinking the milk, lol. I have enjoyed your gift guides, thank you for sharing them!

  5. I'm so happy you're down here in Texas avoiding that snow storm! Here in Houston we've been having chilly nights, and that's just enough winter for me! Love the picture of your father. Take care.

  6. Southwest? Where? My sons live there, one in AZ and one in NM. It looks like I moved the wrong direction, from coastal CA to snowy east.
No cookies for Santa this year? oh no! :)
    Have a good week!

  7. Love reading your answers. I think that is a riot about your dad being 'the ladies' man' of his complex. God bless his soul. I bet he left a trail of broken hearts...lol
Glad you are out of the snow belt. xo Diana

  8. My first job when I was a teenager included gift wrapping. I hate to gift wrap anything ever since. I'm a big believer in gift bags!!! Happy Holidays!!!

  9. It was fun to read your answers! I'm not the best gift wrapper and it's always a chore at Christmas. Grateful for gift bags. Hope you have a great week.

  10. Chuckling at your tint-kit! I said a few months ago that if I keep plucking gray eyebrow hairs I soon won't have any eyebrows left! Perhaps I need to check that out!! I also laughed out loud about wrapping gifts in tinfoil to match the tree. My mom had to have one of those one year a very long time ago. I'm surprised she didn't try wrapping the gifts in tinfoil too! Thanks for the chuckles! I enjoyed your Hodgepodge!

  11. I have to ask . . .did your mom really wrap the presents in tin foil?? I love wrapping gifts! If we lived close (and were actual friends - not just blog friends) I would offer to help wrap for you!

  12. You got out just in time! Visit in the summer when it's hot in TX but revel in no snow today! Love your sweet dogs! Merriest, my friend!

  13. Whoever invented gift bags deserves to be a millionaire. I hate wrapping gifts.

  14. I'm in that white patch and so far the weathermen seem to be on target; we have about 8" as I type this at 6am and they're guessing we'll have another 4-6" by the time it stops. I am so thankful I don't have anywhere to go at all today!

  15. Hey Kate,
Well, I am a Virgo and love gift wrapping and making perfect bows. As far as right. Everyone knows I am right lucky. Won a trip to Europe and the next year a trip for four to Hawaii, and and I am not one of those people who constantly enter contests...Traditions.....well my Mother had one. She never drank or smoked, except for Christmas Eve when she would sit by the tree smoke a cigarette and dink a glass of Mogan David wine.

  16. Hahaha, I thought of you when I saw that weather forecast for the Northeast. I knew you'd be happy you were in the right place at the right time on that one!

  17. I only want snow during the holidays. Just ordered the eyebrow tint for the man in my life. Just noticed his eyebrows are looking a little like Jack Nicholson's brows in every movie. ;0) You had me at aluminum foil! laura

  18. I'm not the best wrapper either, and am particularly clumsy with the bows. My mother with her artists eye wraps everything with such care and ties beautiful bows. I won't be with her for Christmas this year so am on my own with the wrapping. My daughter will be home and when she worked for Coach they taught her to tie bows, so there might be a pile waiting for her : ) Merry Christmas!

  19. I have resorted to using more gift bags instead of wrapping! There are some cute bags out there just have to search. Guess you got out of the snow belt just in time!

  20. I wish I were good at gift wrapping too. I can do it, but it's nothing fancy by any means. I loved to be one of those pinterest-y people that make the wrapping so pretty you hardly want to open it, ha!

  21. HA! I always love your answers Katie! Happy Snow-Free Holidays!

  22. Gift wrapping with foil ... how clever and unique! Our neighbor wrapped gifts with the 'funnies' and my mother did not approve. As I sit here with zero gifts wrapped, I'm eyeing our newspaper recycle pile and wondering if my mom can admonish me from the heavens. Wait, what am I saying ... of course, she can and I'm off to Container Store for proper wrap. xo

  23. I enjoy wrapping presents but I'm not as good as I use to be! I don't remember us putting things out for Santa when I was young. I did it with our children. That's cool that your dad was a Bill. He sure did live a long life. My dad was a few months shy of 97 when we passed this year. I said Billy Crystal too. Oh yes, I have pulled those couple of grey's in my brows!
