Dude's Hamptons Showhouse Road Trip

It's my lucky day.  My buddy Dude, attended the Hamptons Showhouse this summer and agreed to write a post for me.  It's almost as fun as being there for me.  Almost. Ok not really.  Between you and me I'm kind of jealous...

Every year there is a great decorator showhouse in the Hamptons! It's a good excuse for a girls' Road Trip!! So, fill the Jeep  w/ a decorator (Patty) and her 3 sidekicks/assistants/interns (MJ, Babs and moi ). Load  the car on the 7:30 a.m. ferry to Long Island.....Hamptons here we come!!!

Here are some interesting ideas I saw there:

Loved the zebra striped wallpaper in the butler's pantry.

Wood paneled refrigerator doors.

Mirrored tiles in the kitchen backsplash . It added a nice dimension  to the pattern.

The patio doors in the living room are bi-fold. They  were a great option instead of sliders or French doors because they fold and lay flat on  door frame.

This was a cool painted iron window hanging. If you're not concerned about privacy, it's a great option to add dimension to the window and room.

Studded wallpaper.

I didn't really care for this lighting fixture hanging over the front staircase. It's so confusing to me, that I'd be afraid I'd get disoriented and fall down the stairs!!

Not crazy about the chandelier, but love the room.

Oh, did  I mention that the 2nd leg of the trip was about shopping in the Hamptons?? Well, we can't go home empty handed!!!,

East Hampton, South Hampton are awesome, but we have a FAVORITE store in the Hamptons and that's the TJ Maxx in Bridgehampton......we have a history at this TJ's.....we are all TJ's connoisseurs and have hit TJ's all over the country and this is by far...THE BEST!!! A destination TJ's!!

Patty (the decorator) had the most success at TJ's (a few dresses, pocketbook, and a few odds and ends).  As for the rest of us, well....we weren't depressed but, can't win em all. Then it was off to East Hampton to....window shop?!? All I have to say is I did damage at Calypso due to  the pressure  from my friends to get these pants....they loved them (or so they said).  The jury is still out for me. What do you think??

Oh, and I also did some damage at Roberta Roller Rabbit. It's such a  great store that's full of color but I managed  to find the only  white dress in there (go figure?) But, this purchase I love!

After lots of traffic and a missed exit off the expressway, our Google  maps got us back to Port Jeff for a quick dinner and  Chardonnay before boarding the boat back to Ct!

P.S.  I almost forgot we had a Michael Kors sighting on the check out line at a local market (sorry I didn't have the nerve to snap a photo)

Always A Bridesmaid...

Welcome back to Wedding Wednesday!

By the time I became a bride, I had been in eleven weddings.  That's right, eleven.  By the ninth wedding, my poor departed mother's knees were raw from all the novenas that she said for a future unknown son-in-law.  She gave all the credit to Saint Jude who eventually found the poor, unsuspecting Mister and plopped him right in front of my desk when he was interviewing with my boss for a job.  By the way, St. Jude is the patron saint of "hopeless causes."  Thanks for the vote of confidence, Mom.  Anyway, the Mister landed the job and also happened to take home the biggest prize of all... moi. 

I love all of my friends that gave me the opportunity to be in their weddings very much.  Even though they told me the biggest lie in the universe.... "you can wear your bridesmaid dress again" - I forgive them.  If I showed up at a function in one of my bridesmaid's dresses I would be asked all night "where's the wedding?"  

Here I am at my friend, Maura's wedding being escorted by her very handsome brother, or as I like to refer to him, "the one who got away."  By the way, our matching hairstyles were purely coincidental.

Now do you understand why St. Jude was brought in to save the day?

So, I have scoured the Internet for short bridesmaid dresses that definitely can be worn again.  By the way, if I looked as good as these models do in these dresses, I would wear them every chance I get!

Great idea to have different style dresses in the same color.  Not every one looks good in the same dress.  Although, I have a few tall, skinny friends that can wear anything. not that I'm jealous or anything....

Movie Review

This is our first official "empty nester" weekend since #2 fled the nest.  The Mister and I are still trying to find our footing.  Kind of strange.  The house is quiet and clean.  All pillows on my couch are still neatly arranged and there are no crumbs on the counter tops.  

The Mister and I are nicer more considerate of each other. We both know we feel the emptiness and yet, we don't want to talk about it because then it will validate the realness of it.

When we get into the car, one of us will suggest calling one of our girls.  It's a great time to talk to them on the speaker.  Most often then not they don't answer.  That's okay.  They're having fun - or better yet - studying. 

Enough about me.  On with the movie review.  I'm going to let you guess who picked this one out.

I was not expecting to enjoy this movie.  I was wrong.  It was a very fast-moving film with a great plot and a romance with a tease intricately laced into the "meat" of the storyline.     

It didn't hurt that this handsome devil, Eric Bana, who played Henry VIII in The Other Boleyn Girl was the leading man.  He was so good, I may have to rent The Other Boleyn Girl again.

Rebecca Hall did a wonderful job playing the leading lady.  I loved her British accent and gorgeous ivory skin. In my next life I want to come back as her. 

Eric Bana and Rebecca Hall sizzled with great chemistry which helped to create a very entertaining movie.

The Mister gave this movie an A.  I gave it an A- only because I couldn't figure out what was going on the first forty minutes of the movie.  It takes me a while to catch on.
