Hello, dear friends. I hope this post finds you well. I don't have a whole lot to report from here. We are in quarantine because we visited one of the "hot" states. It's Day 6 and we haven't tried to kill each other yet. That's a record for us.
Amazon I do keep this book on my bedside table just to keep him in line.
I'm back in the old Hodgepodge saddle. For those of you who are new here, I am linking up with Joyce who writes the questions over at From This Side of the Pond.
1. What's one thing you learned at the ripe old age of whatever age you are now?
2. I read here a list of foods that can help you look younger-
extra virgin olive oil, green tea, fatty fish, dark chocolate, vegetables, flaxseeds, pomegranates, avocados, tomatoes, spices, bone broth
How many of the foods listed have you tried? How many do you eat regularly? Your favorite from the list?
Younger?
If that were true, I would look as young as this baby from all the chocolate that I consume.
One of the best days of my life was when the study came out claiming that dark chocolate is good for you.
Now I'm waiting for the next study to come out that states sitting on your duff watching Real Housewives makes you skinny.
3. Something you miss from the 'good old days'? When were the good old days anyway?
When I think of the good old days, I think of 2019 and before. I miss the afternoons of enjoying a leisurely lunch and shopping unencumbered by masks, hand sanitizer, and paranoia.
This captures my shopping expeditions in 2020.
I wish the paparazzi would leave me alone.
4. What are two or three of the most rewarding things to be found in growing older?
Hmmm... let me think.
Still thinking...
Uh, can I phone a friend?
5. What's your favorite part of your life right now?
I am looking forward to our next chapter that will not includes scenes like this.
Hi Katie! So nice to see you in the HP! Your link was to an April post but I fixed it for ya : ) Thanks for the viewing tip. We just finished Yellowstone so need something new to watch. Hope you’re doing well!
I'm still laughing over the shopping picture. It pretty much describes every trip I made to the store between March and July when my husband and I were "stuck" in FL due to the pandemic. (Overall, not a bad place to have been) Long time lurker here and I'm glad you're back. I am excited to read about your new retirement adventures in TX, though I'll miss your MA posts, as it's my primary hood as well. I hope your move goes smoothly and that you find a new place and settle in quickly. Warm regards, Susan
Her life in Massachusetts (MA). I will miss her MA posts as well since my life is in NH (New Hampshire) so I identify with every reference and all the beauty New England brings :)
I am so happy to see you back in your space here on the big ole Internet! You are a delight and your posts always make me smile! I am so sorry about Sister’s Mr. , give her a hug from me. I am excited for your new chapter in life.
Hi Katie, just read your post about my book The First Husband and it made me laugh! Thanks so much for the wonderful shout out. The book just hit 1700 ratings on Goodreads. Thanks again.
I have always loved your sense of humor and you didn't disappoint today! That first one...about things passing...hilarious (and oh, so true). Thanks for the tip on the show. I'm going to look it up. It sounds good. Have a great day!
Let me give you another huge WELCOME BACK! Your first WH blog did not disappoint and I can't wait to escape into that Prime series. Thanks for the recommendation. Any time you happen to traveling down I20 through Shreveport, let me know and I will provide a place to refresh without the use of a mask.
So nice to see you are back :) I just heard the Northeast is supposed to get a lot of snow this winter. If you miss it too much you can watch it on the news ;) We are looking into various housing options and the inventory is so small our realtor told us it is very hard to buy right now. People are getting outbid without even knowing it. You will find the perfect place at the perfect time.
Welcome back, nice to "meet" you! You had me cracking up though the whole post. It all started with The First Husband, I need to get myself a copy of that one! I really enjoyed all of your answers. Have a happy Wednesday :)
I'm going FROM sunny mild winters TO snowy cold winters. What was I thinking?? besides--grandchildren! Good old days of last year--it sounds like a great title for a new book or maybe a horror story. :) I hope you both remain sane and alive for the next eight days!
Love your answer for #1. Me too, I eat all those items and they haven't made me look younger. I haven't gained any weight on lock down but because I sit more the fat seems to be more in the middle now. Enjoyed your answers and the photos you included!!!
Since moving to Florida from Colorado 3+ years ago, I do miss cooler weather (which we get eventually), but we absolutely do not miss shoveling snow. My husband sold our snow blower to the people across the street before we moved, for only $25. They asked why so cheap? His response, I just won't need it anymore and will not take it with us! No regrets at all. None.
Oh, I know you are looking forward to milder Texas winters. It's great to have you and your humor back as you always make me chuckle. Sending you splashes of joy!
I eat lots of dark chocolate too but I don't think I look any younger-- maybe they meant gaining rolls of fat like on a baby?! That, I believe, I could easily do. I too miss going out in public without having to remember a mask... I can't tell you how many times I start walking towards a store only to turn around because I managed to forget my mask in the car (again!).
I always love reading your post early with my coffee. It's a great way to begin the day with a really good chuckles! How did you capture that shopping pic of me???? Great pic of you and the mister. Bet he has a plan for everyday now that he's retired. Hope the house hunting is going well.........
Your photo reminds me of a comment a new neighbor made whenn I asked him how he was adjusting to our summers after moving here from the north east. He easily replied, "I'm just fine! You don't have to shovel snow." Welcome back to Texas. I'm eager to hear the plans!!!
I am so glad you are back!! This has been a hot mess of a year, and we could all use the levity and wisdom you bring! Can I tell you how glad I am you are moving back to TX. I would love the opportunity to meet you when I am there seeing my brother.
Love the way you answered Hodge Podge!!!! I have been in seclusion since February - lots of checks on the "at risk" so not going anywhere.
Our favorite films are period dramas (and a good time travel sci-fi or who-done-it thrown in for a break.) This one looks like we will be watching tonight, thank you!
If you have Netflix I highly recommend The Grand Hotel. Used to be called The GRAN Hotel but they changed it. It is a wonderful period drama mystery that is filled with amazing beauty. It is Spanish with subtitles. After a while you don't even notice. I watch a great deal of foreign films so never bothered me.
I'm totally with you on missing shopping and lunches. I've always loved dining al fresco, which is about all we can do now, but nothing is the same.I love reading the hodgepodge blogs and I've missed them. I always think I'll join in one day but I blather on way longer than anyone has the time to read!
Not sure where or when your next adventure begins but I bet it'll be a wild ride!
LOVE all of these - you crack me up! :) Thanks for the show recommendation. I hardly watch anything except British Murder Mysteries, but this looks great. So nice to have you back!
I'm Katie. Welcome to my blog. I am an empty nester meandering through my midlife years one page at a time. We sold our antique home on the South Shore of Massachusetts in October 2020 and relocated to the Dallas suburbs and our forever home.
I love to write about books, movies, TV, celebrities, shopping, decorating, Bravo, and weekend adventures. My favorite writing material, however, is derived from my family: the Mister, my girls, #1 and #2, my favorite son-in-law, and my new little mischief-maker, thoroughly darling Millie. I love hearing from my wonderful readers.
