Weight Watchers Take 1

Hello, dear friends.  We had very little snow all Winter and now Mother Nature is making up for it.  We had quite a bit yesterday and we are due for more tonight.

My #1 just called me to tell me that she and Adorable Jonathon were recognized from my blog by a lovely lady named a Katy.  A big hello to you Katy and maybe I will get to meet you on my next trip to Big D.

I mentioned in January that I decided to join Weight Watchers.  I figure if it's good enough for Oprah, it's good enough for me.  A few readers have written to me inquiring how I was doing with it, so here's the rundown.

Before I started, I looked Atkins, Weight Watchers, and Jenny Craig.  I tried Atkins a few years ago but I just didn't feel right on it.  I felt full but I also felt thick as a brick.  Jenny Craig is very popular with my Sista and a couple of friends.  I just didn't want to be bothered by buying the food all the time.

There were a few things that I needed in a diet.  I wanted to have flexibility in food choices, have a daily occasional glass or two of vino without guilt, use Cremora in my coffee, and lastly, I did not want to be weighed down by carrying around a food scale.

Amazon

Speaking of scales, a few days before I started with WW, I purchased this scale.  Somehow our other scale was thrown out our bathroom window.

It's a mystery to me.

Weight Watchers works on a point system.  There are multiple foods that are 0 points.  Almost all fruits and veggies are 0 points and to be honest, I incorporate as many of these as I can.

Spoiler alert:  I'm a creature of habit.  I basically eat the same thing every day, and I usually order the same thing at all of our usual restaurants.  This drives my ex-chef husband batty.

Have you started to nod off yet?

I can go to meetings if I choose to, but I haven't felt the need.  There is enough support online. Every day there are half a dozen success stories on my Instagram.

I am allotted 23 points a day, and if I don't use all of them, they roll over to the next day.  I also get a few extra points for working out which is very seldom.

WW made me think re-think my food choices.  I ended up asking myself the question is this food worth the points?  For instance, I hate swallowing large pills so I was using up about 6-8 points on all my gummy vitamins, between a Multi, Calcium, Vitamin C and a couple of others that I can't remember.  It must have been the one that is supposed to help with my memory.

This is what I eat for breakfast.  I swapped out my flavored yogurt and packaged oatmeal for Greek Yogurt unsweetened, fruit, and my mini muffin.  This breakfast is 1.5 points, so I have plenty to go.  It may not look it but it keeps me full until lunchtime.

I discovered a few things about Greek yogurt.  I actually really like the taste which was shocking to me because I love my sweets.  Also, if you are like me and have trouble swallowing pills -
use yogurt.  It works like a charm.

Even before I joined WW, I ate a salad for lunch at home.
Now I leave the croutons off and add red/yellow peppers and carrots for crunch.

The Mister and I go out to lunch on weekends a lot.
This is what our table usually looks like.

I never go out without my secret weapon.   Walden Farms Italian Calorie Free dressing is delish. My grocery store is usually out of this dressing, so I end up ordering it by the case through Amazon.  I found that little nifty travel container on Amazon too.

During my afternoon slump, I used to have a cup of sugar-free hot chocolate and a diet ice cream bar.

I now munch on clementines all day long.
Our grocery store sells them peeled.
No hard labor for this girl.

And my hot drink of choice during the day is now tea, which I have with a mini muffin.

Speaking of muffins, these little darlings are 1.5 points each.
You can find the recipe here.
The Mister likes to add fresh berries to the mix.
I don't bake them because I'm not allowed to go near the stove.

It's 5:00 somewhere!
This is my early evening snack.

For dinner, we either have Weight Watchers 0 point Turkey Chili

The Mister adds more tomato and some chicken and replaces the cabbage with spinach.

I know that you are wondering how much weight I lost.
I am 8 pounds thinner than I was on January 1st.
8 pounds with very little exercise.

I'll get into my MOB dress if it's the last thing I do!

Have you ever done Weight Watchers?
Any tips for me?

Until next time...

The Friday Files

Hello, dear friends.  Long time, no write.  Last time I wrote I moaned about my head cold that seemed to go on forever.  Monday I called my Doctor's office.  The Doc and I have kind of a funny relationship.  She is always on vacation when I get sick.  So I decided to go to my old standby, CVS Minute Clinic.
I checked in and waited a little over an hour to get in to see the nurse.  I didn't mind at all - I read and infected every gossip rag that CVS had in stock.  I walked out of that store a lot more knowledgeable on the Kardashian Clan than when I entered the store.

To be honest with you, I had one mission in mind.  I wanted the miracle drug - the Almighty Z-pack.  I know from experience that the Z-pack is the holy grail of cold cures.

Brittany, my nurse, asked all the right questions and I was determined to give her the right answers.  I did not want to be sent home with Flonase and Dayquil. She examined me and listened to my cough and calmly told me that I had pneumonia.  Pneumonia?  That's what Whoopie has, and she hasn't shown her face on The View in months!

I asked how long my recuperation was expected to be.  Should I ask the Mister to order me a full-time nurse and cleaning crew?  Should I rent a condo and recuperate in warmer weather?  No, Brittany said that neither would be necessary.  And then she said those magic words... Z-Pack and told me to take it easy for a few days and I should be fit as a fiddle by Friday.  And she was right!

I'm not telling the Mister though because I'm still pushing for that full-time cleaning crew.  I don't need the nurse, but a masseuse might be a nice touch...

A certain movie star has put his country estate in Bedford, NY on the market.  To see the rest of the house and find out who the star is, go here.

Stop over to The Pink Clutch to enter a drawing for this gorgeous book by Eric Ross.  I've already preordered two copies - one for a friend who has a birthday in April and one for moi.  I'm still recuperating, you know.

I enjoy Amy Chalmer's blog Maison Decor.  She just finished decorating a magnificent dollhouse modeled after a French chateau.  She is now working on her second which will be a gingerbread cottage for her granddaughter.

In my next life, I want to come back as Amy's grandkid!!

The Mister and I take most of our local day trips during the Spring and Fall.  These seasons are the most beautiful times of the year in New England.  Newport, RI is one of the first places that we visit.  If you are looking to visit this picturesque town, you can find suggested stops right here.

If you love The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel as much as I do, you are going to enjoy this article on the behind-the-scenes moments.

Have you heard about the app Calm?  One of the morning shows featured it.  If you have trouble getting to sleep like me, this app is for you.  It offers breathing exercises to help you relax,  bedtime stories read by Hollywood stars, teaches you meditation skills and offers nature sounds as well as calming music.

Hmmm... I wonder if my first husband reads any of those bedtime stories.

I heard about Holly Holden and her DIL, Karen's youtube videos from a fellow blogger.  These ladies are fascinating.  I still can't tie a scarf with the same flair as these lovely ladies, but I sure had fun trying.

Due to my convalescence, I had the opportunity to catch up on my favorite cardio exercise for my eyes - TV watching.

The Mister and I watched the third season delicious this week.  If you appreciate beautiful cinematography, stunning food presentation, and lovable characters, this show is for you.  If you haven't seen it yet, I envy you.  You have three spectacular seasons to watch.

I also watched the entire season of Vanity Fair and enjoyed every minute of it.

Olivia Cook steals the show.

I had such high hopes for this movie.  I am a big fan of Emily Mortimer's, and she gave a stellar performance.  I just thought that the story was depressing and through it all, I hoped for a happy ending.  Spoiler alert:  there wasn't one.

Btw... it's based on this book.

*****

Because of all my heavy duty TV watching, it has taken me longer than usual to finish these books.  Brittany told me not to push myself.  Both are great reads.

Until next time...
