Summer Reading & Big Family News

I hope all is well in the world.
Our world became a lot brighter this weekend.

Cue the Confetti!
Our #2 and Darlin' Will got married!!

The setting was in Darlin' Will's sister and brother-in-law's magnificent garden.

Both families came together with love to wish this stunning couple much happiness in the years ahead.

The weather was magnificent!

Lucy was an adorable flower girl while her Mama was the glowing Matron of Honor.

Both families celebrated at a reception afterward.

Although Lemmie was not allowed at the restaurant, her presence was felt.

Both families agreed that #2 and Darlin' Will make the perfect match.

I just finished this one and enjoyed it.  It's a long one. The narration is wonderful!

6/23

A young widow returns to her late father’s New England estate, only to be drawn into the hunt for the rumored pirate treasure that consumed his life.

I am reading this one by one of my favorite authors and loving every minute of it.

My dear friend, Mary, texted me to say she loved listening to this one.

Mary loved this one as well.

Here are some books coming out this Summer that caught my eye.

6/2

A gripping novel about two trailblazing women on opposite sides of the law—a prosecutor and a madam—who team up to bring down notorious Mob boss Lucky Luciano in 1930s New York.

The Personal Librarian was written by this team of authors.

A soaring historical novel set in Ireland in the years before and after the Great Hunger.

As a young Queen Elizabeth II prepares to take the throne, three women in her employ will discover where they belong in a rapidly changing world in this heartwarming novel.

6/2

A romance author is shocked when one of her characters-in-progress seemingly comes to life… but is he too good to be true?

6/16

A tour de force of character-driven storytelling, the story of two women whose secrets and desires entrap them in a deadly love triangle.

6/23

When she begins to peer into the lives of her glamorous neighbors, one woman discovers a terrifying secret in this riveting psychological thriller with nine lives worth of twists.

6/9

How did Joe Goldberg become Joe Goldberg? What led to his first love . . . first obsession . . . first kill?

6/23

Lisa Jewell brings her “thrilling, chilling” (Chris Whitaker) suspense to this shocking new thriller about a lost dog, a missing woman, and a house of long-buried secrets.

6/9

This is the tale of a young man who takes an unspecified job with a charismatic elderly Baronessa at her crumbling villa in the Tuscan hills.

6/2

A moving, luminous novel that reminds us of the sweetness and impermanence of life and the power of connection to defy time.

6/9

The story of three Chinese women whose unexpected friendship helps them survive and, despite the odds, thrive in the turmoil of post-Civil War Los Angeles.

6/30

A heartbreaking, life-affirming new novel by Ethan Joella—author of the Read with Jenna Bonus Pick A Little Hope—about a young woman searching for answers about her brother’s last days.

He married the man of her dreams only to become his worst nightmare.
This one kept me guessing.

7/28

A captivating new novel about several intertwined stories of love, loss, courage, and redemption set over the course of one magical week in Paris.

Nine Americans in Paris. Seven intertwined love stories. One City of Light.

7/14

Sandwich meets The Wedding People in this irresistible comedy of manners as three generations of a family—a snail scientist, a soon-to-be divorcée, her teenage daughter, a hapless con man, and their feckless patriarch—descend on a ritzy Lake Michigan vacation island.

7/7

A smoldering psychological thriller with a singular, mind-bending last page.

7/7

A woman, newly engaged to a man she adores, receives a call from her first love that shatters her carefully ordered world.

7/7

Three women make life-changing decisions set in motion by the 1967 Summer of Love in San Francisco.

7/14

Art restorer and legendary spy Gabriel Allon searches for the missing wife of a British billionaire in the electrifying new tale of greed, corruption, and betrayal.

This sounds like the Mister's perfect read.

8/4

What begins as a teenage romance in 1950s Florida becomes an intimate, deeply moving story of separation, sacrifice, and self-determination — and of how early love shapes the lives we carry forward.

8/4

The dramatic history of the Boleyn family into a richly imagined novel of ambition, bloodlines, and the opulent and deadly court of Henry VIII.

8/4

An abandoned lodge with a horrific decades-old mystery. And a small mountain town where everyone believes they know their neighbors.

8/4

In 1926, five women disappeared from a remote island in Vermont. Now, one hundred years later, it’s happening again.

8/4

When a young woman, a golf prodigy, kills a caddy with a stray ball at the country club, the investigation of this freak accident reveals a dark and shocking tale of secret affairs, predatory men, and a teenager on trial.

I really enjoyed this, and it would make a great book club choice.

8/25

Amazing dialogue, complex characters, and a dazzling plot. Never has betrayal seemed so fascinating.

8/18

Another fun, family-centered whodunnit about two sisters who work together to find a killer as they raft down the rapids of the Grand Canyon.

8/25

In this highly anticipated sequel, Liane Moriarty examines the complexities of modern women’s lives, shining light on family dynamics and long-hidden truths with wit and compassion.

  11. Very best wishes to this obviously happy pair, and what a wonderful way to do it! Everyone in the photos radiates love, and that's the way it should be. You have featured some of my favorite writers, and I have quite a few of these preordered. I just finished reading The Calamity Club, and I think I love this more than I did The Help! I used to live in Oxford MS for a while, and I do remember Mr. Lewis because I worked at Neilson's while I lived there. He was quite elderly by then but he still came in to work sometimes. I met Kathryn Stockett at a book signing here in Birmingham when The Help first came out, and she was so humble and overwhelmed at the turnout! It was standing room only. The Calamity Club was worth waiting 17 years for, I think. I hope she writes something else before another 17 years pass because I might not be alive by then. Ellen Shook
