I hope all is well in your world. No complaints here. Last week was Spring Break for the schools, so things were a lot quieter around town.
We almost never venture out to the Outlets on the weekend, but I needed to return my never-ending orders of white jeans. I have good news. I just may have found my almost perfect pair. More on that on Friday. Anywho, the Mister believes every retail excursion deserves a "healthy" reward. I've given up the argument that just because it has yogurt in the name does not mean it is good for you.

Here is a list of the 4 and 5-star books that I read this month.
I have also included ARCs.

I could not put this book down.

Nobody does it better than Natalie Barelli when it comes to a domestic thriller. Jodie wants nothing more than to be the perfect housewife. She is the second wife of a well-known psychologist. The shine begins to tarnish thanks to the aid of the wicked housekeeper. Just when I thought I figured it out, another shoe drops. This comes out on 6/30.
I was in a reading/listening slump when Courage for the Nightingales rescued me. I adored all the characters, especially Ruby and Laurie. This book will make you feel every emotion of living through this important time in history. It will also warm your heart. The narration was aces.
AmazonI adored this book, which focuses on Evelyn Talbot, a Gilded Age "It Girl," and her rocky road to stardom. It is based on Evelyn Nesbitt, a model and Broadway actress. Although Evelyn was a success in her career, she was taken advantage of by two wealthy, powerful men. I enjoyed Evelyn's lucky Penny, who consistently showed up to save the day. The ending was the cherry on this delicious sundae.
I look forward to Pataki's next page-turner.

There are not enough stars in the sky to give this thoughtful, heartwarming novel. It is written beautifully, and I never wanted it to end. I never wanted it to end. It is the story of Flo, a woman in her nineties with a terminal diagnosis. She decides to leave her home to a woman, Ruthie, who was a former neighbor when she was a child. Flo reminisces about how much joy the little girl gave her and writes her a letter. There is a twist at the end of the story that I did not see coming. I have read all of Elizabeth Berg's books and loved every one.
This is a true story about a couple who decided to quit their jobs, sell everything they owned, buy a boat, and sail away. If you ever shared that thought, this book will knock it out of you. We listened to this in the car, and it was riveting.

James Patterson’s Judge Stone delivers first-class courtroom drama, small-town excitement, and strong characters all wrapped in a moral dilemma.
An absolutely gorgeous exploration of friendship, authenticity, and the power that a few strings and a well-written lyric can wield.
An unforgettable tale of a family of women with an astonishing gift: the ability to redo one moment in their lives.

I just finished Judge Stone this week. It was a powerful read.
ReplyDeleteI loved Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell so I'll definitely give Life, Death & Giants a whirl. It Girl looks good and I love that time period. Though I would never consider living on any sea with any man, I can't wait for Marriage at Sea to come out because you described it as riveting! So many good choices, thanks Katie! KTG
ReplyDeleteI have the Elizabeth Berg ready to go on my kindle and need to get started. Your review makes me look forward to it!
