The Friday Files

I hope that you had a good week.  Mine was less than exciting -I took care of personal monthly maintenance, which entails roots, highlights, and nails.

The Mister has a sinus infection, so I have been camping out in our guest room.  He is a perpetual snorer.  When he has a cold, he sounds like he is revving up a motorcycle. I kid you not.

We are meeting Adorable Jonathon's parents this weekend for lunch.  The guys carry on scintillating conversations about water heaters, sprinkler systems, and garage openers while Mrs. A and I chat about television shows and our new granddaughter's arrival in March.

Take a tour of this gorgeous Alabama home designed by one of my favorite designers, Mark D. Sikes.

This barn-inspired California guest house designed by Suzanne Rheinstein is a beauty.

This is Copperbeach Farm in Connecticut.  It was built in the 1890s, and it's on the market.  Take a tour here.

Can you guess what will be the most popular Halloween costume this year?

My favorite is #1.  And my other fave is #13.
Leave your answer in the comments.

Are you a fan of blueberries?
The health benefits are phenomenal!
I used to tell my girls when they were little that blueberries make one's eyes bluer.

They didn't seem to care and opted for a nutritious pop tart instead.

The Mister made a soup this week that looked like this one a la Martha.

Speaking of Soup from the Stars, here is a chef's version of Dolly's Stampede Soup.

I'm pretty sure I am one of the only people who doesn't like Daylight Saving Time.  I actually like it when it gets darker early on cold nights.  But then again, we are retired and don't have to commute or take the kids to practice and games.  Here is the thought behind Daylight Saving Time.
What do you think?

Here is the sweetest story about a granddaughter following in her grandmother's footsteps.

In honor of Breast Cancer Month, here is a touching and informative story about a courageous couple.

Have you ever read All The Light We Cannot See?  Netflix is releasing the movie soon.  This is such an interesting story about how the lead got the role.

Here is the trailer.

Last but certainly not least, this story centers around the song Moon River and the extraordinary talent, Henry Mancini.

Btw... this song was played for our first dance as a married couple thirty-three years ago.

Can I hear a collective awwwwww from you?

Here are a couple of my favorites.

I use Extreme Recovery Cream as my night cream.  It targets dehydrated skin, and it is soooo rich.  When I put it on, I can almost hear my skin slurp it up.  And in the morning, my skin feels so soft and well-nourished.  And if you like a dewy makeup look like me, it makes a great canvas for makeup.

Although the Quench & Shine Restorative Mask has the word mask in it, you can use this little miracle in a jar as a conditioner.  After I shampoo my hair, I put it on, leave it on for about 5 minutes, and then rinse.

I dry my hair, and my old, coarse, frizzy hair is unbelievably soft and smooth.  I cannot believe the difference.

Another thing is this is a large jar, and you don't have to use a lot.
I kid you not; this is a game-changer.

Oh, how I love a crisp, white cotton shirt.

I ordered this for the holidays.

Love this velvet jacket.

More velvet.

Talbots

Velvet leggings.

I finally broke down and bought this sweater and I love it. I hate the fact that I paid full price.

I bought this for casual holiday get-togethers.

Pretty new color.
Go Horned Frogs!

I have this blouse; it looks great under my blazers.

I bought this in navy.

Because I don't have enough navy in my closet.

Amazon

Look what just popped up in my feed.
Guess what the Mister is getting for Christmas.

  4. You’re a fibber like my Dad! He told me if I ate the crusts on my bread I would get curly hair! I always eat the crust (the best part) and my hair is straight. Another hope dashed…

  6. I think the best reason for Daylight Savings Time is that children will not be getting on the schoolbus in the morning in the dark.

  7. Reese's' PB cups are hands down the best candy there is. It has been may favorite since I was a little girl and my grandmother would always bring me some each time she visited. I am so happy Reese's are getting the recognition they deserve.

  10. First I want to let you know how much I love my Colleen Rothschild hair mask! All it took was a little dab of the conditioner and wow - hair felt silky, I’m a fan. #1 candy is my fav and I too love when it gets dark early, turning on the lights, putting on my favorite sweaters and before I know it it’s happy hour time! Can’t wait to see All The Light We Cannot See and highly recommend reading the book. KTG

  11. Finally, someone that also doesn't like DST!! Thank you! We always have the greatest hope of eating and hanging outside in the summer but truthfully it is usually either too hot or too rainy or everyone is watching tv or too tired to be outdoors until it gets dark so just give me the regular time and a nice cozy evening indoors all year round . Love your hilarious posts, you have the best sense of humor ever and the best husband too!

  15. I LOVE that sweater you didn't get on sale. Re the blouse you wear under blazers...I assume with the blouse collar worn up over the blazer collar? Reese's PB Cups have been a fav since I was a child too. Number two are the caramel covered apple-flavored lollipops. Oh. My. Goodness!! Like a caramel apple.😋 I like the time change too. Fun to light the fireplace, maybe light a candle or three & hibernate for a long winter's evening. XO

  16. I like Reese's peanut butter cups, but I like Trader Joe's version in dark chocolate. I love fall and winter so it would be fine with me if we didn't change the clocks, but I can understand it is better for those with little kids in sports and such. Don't you love retirement?
