Fall Reading

I hope all is well in your world.  We had a lot of fun at #1 & AJ's baby shower.  It was held at #2 and Darlin' Will's lovely home.

We lucked out with a gorgeous day!  Lucy thought the party was in her honor.  No one dared to break the news to her.

Nobody loves a bounce house more than this girl!

Mama and Dada have the sweetest friends.  It was so wonderful to see them all and their darling children.

Miss Lucy in her "big sister" dress.
She still has no idea the party wasn't for her.

Here's a recap of my four- and five-star reads.

I am posting this review a second time because this just came out.

I have read all of Grisham's books, and in my humble opinion, The French Illusion is his BEST! I went into this one cold, not knowing anything about the story. The first pages were so full of suspense that I had to catch my breath. And the twists and turns just kept coming. The characters are well-drawn and relatable. I thoroughly enjoyed the romantic twist, and the ending was perfection!

Fun fact: there is not a single courtroom scene!

Spoiler alert: I am a huge fan of Jodi Picoult.  Molly Fitzgerald lost her mother in the September 11 attacks when she was just two months old. Now an adult working in emergency preparedness, Molly has built her life around protecting others from disaster.  After experiencing a personal crisis, Molly's world is turned upside down.  It’s a moving story about family, love, loss, and the lengths we go to protect those closest to us.

Out 1/26/27

This is a historical novel that follows two ambitious women whose lives are connected by a historic mansion in upper Manhattan. The two stories intertwine through mystery, scandal, ambition, and the determination of two women to control their own destinies.  Fiona Davis is one of my favorite authors, and she did not disappoint.

Out 11/3

This is a cozy mystery set in a small North Carolina town.  A groom disappears on his wedding day during a devastating storm. His body is later found in the river. A valuable historical manuscript also goes missing, and bookstore owner Nora and her friends investigate the murder and theft while uncovering secrets within the book club.

I listened to this and enjoyed every minute.

Out 10/20

Set in Nazi-occupied Paris in 1942, this heartbreaking historical novel follows a brave piano teacher who risks everything to protect a young Jewish girl fleeing Nazi persecution. Inspired by real people and events. The characters were engaging, while the story was fast-paced.

Out 1/27

This is an intense psychological thriller about family loyalty, sibling relationships, and the devastating consequences of protecting the favored child. I have not read anything by the author, but after I finished this nail-biter, I downloaded Berry's latest books. When I wasn't reading it, I found myself thinking about each family member. The family dynamics are complicated while fascinating. I recommend this book to those who love family stories with a thriller's edge.

Have you read any good books lately?

I'd love to hear about them.
